Japan photo dump -part 3/6- ASAKUSA We went to a temple in Asakusa which was amazing! Seeing this in person was such a great experience, and sooo many ppl. It also had like this outside mart with a bunch of stalls/stands with ppl selling things, from street food to a bunch of different souvenirs! Though the temple itself was such a cool sight and the other things around it was great to see as well. I did like a water cleansing thing before I went into the temple and then when I got inside I ended up getting a 100 yen fortune which was pretty cool! This whole area you could spend a whole day at because there was so much to see and we just didn’t have much time there. I’ve covered my tips for using public transportation and visiting temples & shrines in the last 5 posts. Starting from today’s post, I’ll be covering “What to pack for your trip to Japan”. The first segment in this is Luggage. Below you will find 3 options on what luggage to take with you for your trip to Japan, especially if you intend to shop. Starting off with a Disclaimer - How much luggage you need will vary depending on: • If you are a light packer vs. over packer • How many days you are going to Japan for and where in Japan are you going to? • In what season are you going to Japan? If you are going during winters, you may need to pack bulky sweaters and jackets requiring more luggage. In our case, we went to Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka) during spring so we didn’t need any bulky winter clothes. Our primary goal was to take along as little as possible because we intended to shop while in Japan. We went for a 2-week trip and were able to manage packing everything in a backpack + one half of our carry-on suitcases. For the checked bag, here are your 3 options and their pros and cons. 1. Putting your carry-on inside an empty checked bag - I know several people advise taking an empty checked bag and putting your carry-on bag inside but in my opinion, that still ends up becoming heavy & bulky to carry + the fact that you need to carry around that luggage on the local trains (sometimes during peak hours), reserve luggage space separately if you are planning to take a Shinkansen (which we were) and walk with the bags from one destination to another. Sakura Season 2022 🌸 The year before this Jolene and I went on a bike camping trip around Japan’s largest lake and came across this spot along the north shore of the lake that was completely lined with cherry blossoms. I knew that I had to bring the winch up here so I could have a ride through the cherry blossoms the next spring. It's easy to miss this spectacular flower event! The Nemophila ("Baby blue eyes") blooms only during a two-week period in Spring, but became almost impossible to properly time from a tourist perspective, as the climate change influences the weather in such a way that it's becoming almost completely unpredictable to say when the full bloom is going to happen.
