Big month for options in April, this is actually my highest dollar return for the year and it pushes my monthly average back over $1,000! It’s not all good news, quite a few of the positions that are still open needed to be rolled to June, and one position in particular looks like it’s going to be my first assignment of the year. Still, there’s always a plan to deal with all of that! Kicking off my May travels were Hong Kong and China! I mentioned in my last post that my plans were derailed and so unfortunately this trip was cut short. Originally I intended to do Hong Kong solo for 4 days then join an MBA trip in mainland China for 8 days. In a really freak occurrence, I noticed that my passport had been tampered with when I arrived at the airport to leave and therefore had to get a whole new passport same day. That part was fine, but to go to mainland China, I needed a visa that was only in my original passport and therefore no longer viable and not as quick to replace. Making a super quick decision I decided to just get to Hong Kong as soon as possible and figure the rest out from there. Ultimately I found that I could visit the mainland without a visa under certain restrictions so went forward with that plan and cut my time in half for the trip. Unfortunately the mainland part of the trip was completely nonrefundable so even though my time was cut in half, I couldn’t get a refund on anything. But if I dwell on that, I’ll be dwelling for nothing so yes $3675 for 6 days was my final cost. The biggest cost was the nonrefundable package for mainland China which included hotels, meals, activities, and transport for the 3 days I was there in Beijing. The rest of the costs, I mostly incurred in Hong Kong which I ended up meeting some friends for. Shoutout to using points for flights because everything was so flexible and changeable during all of the chaos! Overall, Hong Kong has been on my list and I highly recommend!!! Mainland China, I’m super glad I went with a group because I probably wouldn’t have gone otherwise. I hope yall are enjoying the month so far! Reviewing April 2024 goals and setting new ones for May!  💸 🚫 I fell just short on the goal for cash flow for April. This came from the fact that I decided to pay for my private health care for a whole year. 📉 I wasn't able to meet the investing goal. This was a deliberate choice as I held off on my individual stock buys. Consistency is key, but it is more important to be patient and buy quality companies.  This month, the cash flow and investing are forecasted to be lower than this year's average as I plan to pay down my HECs debt (student loan) 🙃  🏋‍♂️💪 Lots of basketball 🏀 and some plyometrics/calisthenics this month, which crossed me over the mark.  🇫🇷 I took a different approach for April by refreshing my memory on conjugations for different verb endings and to increase my vocab by studying YouTube videos and Duolingo.  This month, I will continue with just being consistent. 👨‍💻 I finally got this spreadsheet (Google Sheet) to a stage where I'm happy to use it and can now find out the kinks and errors.  #financialindependenceretireearly #financialindependence #retireearly #journeytofire #personalfinance #moneybloggers #financialgoals #debtfree #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #investing #investments #networth  #livingonabudget #millionairemindset #frugal #finance #firecommunity #fatfire #wealth #wealthbuilding #financialfreedom #journeytoFI

My ROTH IRA account gained $1,528.58 for Q1 (Jan 1, 2024, to Mar 31, 2024) excluding net contributions. I made a lump sum contribution of $6,500 to my 2023 ROTH IRA in 2024 Q1, and started on my 2024 contributions in March. My rate of return stands at 10.15%, in line with the S&P 500's 10.6% for Q1 of 2024. Understanding where you stand compared to the S&P 500 is crucial in investing. If your rate of return lags significantly, it might be time to reassess your portfolio. Late on my May goals because I’ve had a whirlwind of a week! My travel plans completely got derailed because of a very wild, unexpected circumstance and therefore so did my budget. However, for my record, I’m posting my budget as I originally intended it to be for this month. I’ve always planned to travel for the month of May to a few different countries with a few different groups of people. Therefore my budget is primarily travel and rent and little of everything else. My goals are to enjoy the month, stay relatively healthy, and be responsible with money despite my travels. That’s already not happened but alas…still processing! #financialindependence #investing #debtfreecommunity #debtfree #financialfreedom #personalfinance #budgeting #womenandmoney #womenwhoinvest #wealthbuilding #wealthywomen #wealthymindset #millionairemindset #financialgoals #moneygoals #savingmoney #moneydiary #generationalwealth #womenempowerment #firecommunity #journeytofi

April financal recap! 💸 Positive cash flow month with a similar routine as the previous months in the year; get paid 💰 ➡️  budget 📝 ➡️ invest 📈 ➡️ spend 💳🫣 🤑 I surprisingly received a pay rise (+5%) last month that was automatically added to my pay. For some reason I wasn't informed, but ill take it.  My savings rate ended up being 43%, which is still inline with my current goal of 30% 😁 📊 My target was to invest $5k this month and ended up short on that by investing ~$3k. I decided to hold off on some individual stock picks, so I can transfer a couple of months worth of capital for my international shares.  💳 I got a credit card end of March to earn some bonus frequent flyer points, which may have been a psychological trigger to spend more than I usually do in the month 🔥 however, I did change my health care to an annual payment to help reach the minimum spend, which accounts for a lot of the surplus spendings. 📈 My net worth increased by $24.9k (+6.55%), which was largely due to our home value increasing based on recent sales in the area. 🔥 My F.I.R.E. assets increased by a modest $1,167 (+1.30%).  All in all, after a bigger spend month, I'm still happy with how it turned out from a finance point of view. 😄 #financialindependenceretireearly #financialindependence #retireearly #journeytofire #personalfinance #moneybloggers #financialgoals #debtfree #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #investing #investments #networth  #livingonabudget #millionairemindset #frugal #finance #firecommunity #fatfire #wealth #wealthbuilding #financialfreedom #journeytoFI

I’m about to get emotional…… Main reason I haven’t gone back is funds. If I want to go home I’ll spend at least $5k & my #sinking funds will be completely wiped out😔 & I’m not ready to risk that. I’m beefing up my sinking funds but the guilt that comes with just telling my family I’m not making it year after year is, gut wrenching. & also there’s only so much Facetime & WhatsApp you can do…. But you miss a whole lot, the new smile line on my dad’s face, my granny’s stories, mom’s cooking… So hug your family if your close, tell them you love them & eat all the food you can on my behalf

💰 Making an extra couple thousand a year with bank account churning! . This is one of my income streams that I’ve added over the last year or two 😊 I manage my accounts in a spreadsheet and use my W2 income and side income to hit the offer requirements . The overall process for each account takes an average of 15-20 min (reading the offer requirements, setting up for the account, & adjusting my direct deposit), which is worth it for me! . . . #financialindependenceretireearly #financialindependence #retireearly #journeytofire #personalfinance #moneybloggers #financialgoals #debtfree #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #investing #investments #networth #millionaire #livingonabudget #millionairemindset #frugal #finance #firecommunity #womenandmoney #fatfire #wealth #wealthbuilding #financialfreedom #journeytofi #layoffs #layoff #jobsearch

This brings the total amount so far this year to $51,649. April is a good look at how my “real” investment figures would look without additional income from my course - and it’s not that bad! If you saw my net worth update from yesterday, we also moved about $45k from our spare cash bucket to our brokerage. This money was always set aside for investing, so I didn’t double count it here. All our non-work income streams are 100% invested, we don’t take anything out. #firemovement #journeytofi #personalfinance #financialfreedom #financialliteracy #financialindependence #retireearly #financialindependenceretireearly #money #moneyblogger #finances #firecommunity #moneymanagement #financeblogger #firejourney #millennialmoney #financialeducation #moneymotivation #investment #investing

One thing I like about being diversified in different asset classes: real estate, small business, stocks, cash, etc is that one of the assets can dip without affecting others 🙌🏼 While our stocks (brokerage & retirement accounts) took a slight dip in April, our net worth overall increased significantly this month! 📉 Majority of the increase is our business principle pay down, real estate principle pay down as well as cash infusions into our various accounts (sinking funds, 401(k), and brokerage). We don't include our 🇰🇪 investments into our #networth currently as we try and establish those and those aren't significant enough anyways ☺️ Really looking forward to potentially hitting $2mm soon! And our non-business networth closer to $1mm which is probably a more meaningful milestone for us 😊 . . . . . . . #firemovement  #journeytofi  #personalfinance  #financialfreedom  #financialliteracy  #financialindependence  #retireearly  #financialindependenceretireearly  #money  #moneyblogger  #finances  #firecommunity  #moneymanagement  #financeblogger  #firejourney  #millennialmoney  #financialeducation  #moneymotivation  #investment  #investing #moneygoals  #financegoals  #incomestreams  #passiveincome

I truly believe it's possible to change your money story regardless of your background. BUT you have to get intentional. ➡️ I'm unmarried, went to state schools (AS, BS, MS) and didn't come from a two parent household. ➡️ I grew up with a lot of love from my mum but we were by no means wealthy. ➡️ I used to be a A student but by the time I finished grad school, I was a B- student 🤷🏽‍♀. ➡️ I worked through my entire education to support myself while living in New York. I've made my own money mistakes but I took the lessons and got really, intentional with my finances by: 📌 Learning about my money 📌 Paying off my $26,000 student loans 📌 Avoiding car loans like the plague. 📌 Investing in real estate. Start where you are with what you have. You've got this. 👉🏾Follow @onesavvydollar for more real estate and personal finance . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  . #onesavvydollar #moneymindset #wealthbuilding #passiveincome #financialindependence #journeytofi #firecommunity #retirement #investing101 #financialwellness #debtfreecommunity #howtoinvest #investingforbeginners #personalfinances #personalfinanceforwomen #bossladies #realestateadvice #growthmindset #biggerpockets #rentalproperties #financialfreedom #millionairemindset #assetsoverliabilities #millionairemindset #financialeducation #debtfreecommunity #financialindependence #financialplanning #buildingwealth #financialindependence

I decided to dig into the average cost of my ‘necessities ✨’ over the past 2 years and realised that I was doing great at ‘not giving in to #lifestyleinflation’. Note that the above DO NOT include big ticket items such as traveling ✈️ (which has increased significantly over the past few years) and 🏡 household expenses - furniture, utilities, maintainence and others. 🥘 Food Food costs decreased due to much overtime meals being subsidised by the company 🥴 a lil confused by if this is actually good or not LOL. On the weekends I usually prioritise going back to my grandparents home for dinner too. This helps a lot. 🛍️ Shopping Shopping includes some of my household instalment payments - half of which ends in 2023, another half continuing in 2024. From Jan to Apr 2024, I’ve already spent 3.8k THIS HAS GOT TO STOP 🫨 📖 Education While my income has increased considerably, I noticed I also spent more on education. Last year-end, I’ve opted in for a trading course and this year I’m applying for an options course. 🚎 Transport Just want to put a note here that this is purely due to inflationary costs 😪. For the most part, I take the public transport; I seldom take taxis. I wasn’t even holding back my expenses, so I’m very happy with this. However… the start of 2024 is rockkkkkyyyyy 📈. Do I wanna talk about it? 😬 idk maybe in the subsequent posts hahahhahaha. We received dividends from 2 stocks and 2 ETFs in the month of April. Year on Year, this number is almost 1.5 times of what we received last April. The fun thing about the payments this month was that one of the tech firms we'd bought paid their first ever dividend. I guess even newer tech companies reward shareholders. Too bad it came at the cost of 'optimizing' resources (letting people go). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .. . . . #personalfinance #personalfinancecanada #networth #passiveincome #investing #firecommunity #financialindependenceretireearly #retireearly #personalfinance #moneybloggers #wealth #wealthbuilding #financialfreedom #journeytofi #frugalliving #frugal #frugallife #personalfinance #dividend #dividendstocks #dividendincome #dividendinvestingstrategy #dividendinvesting #delayedgratification #etfinvesting #dividendetf

At my last job, another team’s senior manager and director had been trying to get me to join their team for a while. Even when I quit, they told me to let them know if I want to come back bc they still want me to join their team. Now idk if that offer still stands but it’s something I’ve been thinking about. The company has a policy where if you return within a year, you don’t have to interview AND you keep the same pay if u stay the same level. I’m not gonna lie, the idea of both not studying for interviews and then actually interviewing is really enticing me. I feel like I get back 3-6+ months of sabbatical time. But at the same time, I also dont want to make a big decision like this based on convenience bc I don’t want to save a few months just to spend a few years at some place that’s not a good fit. In some ways, going to a different team at the same company seems like the best of both worlds- i’d have the benefits of experiencing a “new job” (different work) while still being at a familiar place (I know the people and the working environment). Some considerations: 👉I’d be at the same level When I first joined, I had 2 years of experience but I accepted an entry-level offer, even tho I had other offers for a higher level. I already felt like I was taking a step backwards in my career back then so to be at entry-level again- after 4 yrs- seems like an even bigger step backwards. The pay is still good (which might be what matters at the end?) but unsure of the long term consequences of being entry level for so long. 👉 I still have a lot of emotions attached to this company. Im actively working on processing all my work feelings in therapy rn but I’m worried I’ll undo all my progress/revert to my old self if I come back. Im not sure if I’ll be able to fully detach in this environment so maybe I really do need a completely fresh start. 👉I worry about letting people down. This is my biggest worry: I actually feel more pressure BECAUSE they like me. I dont want to fail the people who pushed for me and supported me bc then it feels like all their effort was wasted. — Just documenting my thoughts as of now :) Lmk what u think tho! ⬇️

💸 I now have access to an Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP) through my employer! . An ESPP is a plan that lets you buy your company stock every paycheck. The contributions accumulate over time, usually 3-6 months, and then the funds are used to buy the stock when the purchase period is over . One of the advantages of an ESPP is that most plans allow employees to purchase their stock at a discount! My company gives a 15% discount and allows me to sell the stock right away when the purchase period ends. I am excited to add this to my investment strategy 📈 . . . #financialindependenceretireearly #financialindependence #retireearly #journeytofire #personalfinance #moneybloggers #financialgoals #debtfree #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #investing #investments #networth #millionaire #livingonabudget #millionairemindset #frugal #finance #firecommunity #womenandmoney #fatfire #wealth #wealthbuilding #financialfreedom #journeytofi #layoffs #layoff #jobsearch

Not much movement in our net worth value this month, but lots of movement within the asset allocation. As I’m coming to the end of my mini-retirement, we did very well in staying within our budget, which means we’re able to transfer roughly $45k from our cash buffer to our brokerage. The market did dip a little bit in April, so you can see the transfer is not 1 for 1, but it’s roughly there. The cash is in our brokerage but not deployed yet, but I cannot wait to get back to investing proper! If you’ve never tracked your net worth before, I’ve launched a budget and wealth tracker that calculates your net worth, savings rate, progress to financial independence and more! It also tracks your monthly and annual expenses, sinking funds and side income streams. Check out my pinned highlights or www.themoneyloaf.com/resources for the details. Reminder: this only includes our liquid(ish) assets which we will be relying on to hit FIRE. ie doesn’t include our house or retirement accounts. It’s also for 2 people. I do this because our net worth would literally double if we included all those items, but it would not bring us one step closer to financial independence - so I want to keep the numbers grounded in reality. Our net worth allocation is put together based on our own objectives and risk profile and is shared for information only. Summary of our April Household finances: ♦️Income: Our income streams haven't really changed in a couple of months now and comprises of our real estate income (commercial, short term rental & triple net lease), W-2 (this is N's salary as an employee of our business) and Interest÷nd income from our savings which are distributed into our checking account ☺️ ♦️Expenses: I was traveling for half of the month and N doesn't really spend a ton outside of fixed costs so our expenses were a lot less this time around ☺️ ♦️Investments: This include's N's 401k (Roth), brokerage account and investments for our Kenyan accounts ☺️ ♦️Sinking Funds: Money allocated to various accounts with ~$2k set aside for taxes on our real estate income since it's gross ☺️ Outside of budgeted expenses, we also spent some of our sinking funds for a nice dinner on our 4th wedding anniversary at the end of the month as well as had some travel expenses that were from my Kenyan trip as well as seeing family over the Passover week ☺️ Overall, really grateful for our financial abundance and being able to almost live our day to day without a lot of personal financial stress (the business on the other hand is killing us slowly 😂) . . . . . . . . #firemovement  #journeytofi  #personalfinance  #financialfreedom  #financialliteracy  #financialindependence  #retireearly  #financialindependenceretireearly  #money  #moneyblogger  #finances  #firecommunity  #moneymanagement  #financeblogger  #firejourney  #millennialmoney  #financialeducation  #moneymotivation  #investment  #investing #moneygoals  #financegoals  #incomestreams  #passiveincome

A couple of reasons why I prefer ETFs as compared to individual stocks when trading delta neutral strategies like the Short Strangle (or Iron Condor): 1. Less volatile as compared to stocks – I don’t recall the exact time range or parameters of this study but TT did this awhile ago and generally, ETFs are less volatile in price movements with likelihood of staying within a cool 1SD as compared to stocks. 2. Price is not susceptible to earnings – in this previous example provided, $SNAP cratered ~30% as growth slowed and revenue missed expectations. I’m sure you guys have had your fair share of scares. Especially for those trading the wheel!🛞 3. Larger selection of strikes – On ETFs, we are usually able to select the price in ±$1 increments whilst on stocks, it’s usually ±$5. This means we have a higher degree of flexibility in choosing our desired deltas. Different strokes for different folks, but 95% of my trades were placed on broader ETF tickets rather than on an individual stocks and so far the expectancy has been positive. For people who don’t follow earnings or just started trading options, I’d highly recommend that you’d start off trading on ETFs! . . . . . . #dividend #financialfreedom #options #optionstrading #firemovement #healthyoptions #financialfreedomstartshere #journeytofit #optionstrader #financialfreedom💰 #stockoptions #tradingoptions #firejourney #journeytofire #journeytofi #freedomfinancial #money #trading #investing #makemoney #stockmarketinvesting #dividendstocks #tradingtips #moneytalks #investingforbeginners #dividendincome #investing101 #tradinglifestyle

Wrapping up the first quarter of 2024 😌🌸 Many things worth celebrating and being happy for this month. It’s been slightly over 1 month since I resumed pilates, and I can feel my body getting stronger with every session — I’m able to push through the reps, and I don’t feel as tired after. Bursting my expenses due to an impromptu trip to Korea for my fav group’s concert. It’s been 6 years since I last saw them and I wanted to do so, especially on their 15th anniversary and also before I officially get hitched! Overall, still managed to stay cash-flow positive this month with the additional side income, even while paying down debt. Also officially crossed $150K in NW, curious to see when I’ll hit the big $200K 🤭 #personalfinance #indexandchill #moneymindset #budgetingtips #budgeting #budgetingbasics #journeytoFIRE #moneymanagement #firemovement #journeytoFI #firecommunity #financialindependence #FIcommunity #chooseFI #financialliteracy #financialfreedom #financialgoals #debtfreejourney #debtfreegoals #debtfreelifestyle #debtfreecommunity #debtfree #savingmoneytips #wealthbuilding #investing #investments #sidehustle #incomestreams

✨Assets v Liabilities✨ My assets dipped (like others I follow) because the market is down. But thankfully the gap between assets and liabilities grew after paying out my Australian personal loan! I assume the same thing will happen this month on account of using some cash reserves to contribute to my mandatory AUS student loan repayment this month (reflected in my May goal to reduce liabilities by 50k) - and who knows what is in store for the markets in May. But from June it will be full steam ahead to start slamming all my extra cash into my investments! This is earlier than I expected when mapping out my annual budget which I am ✨thrilled✨ about. Can’t wait to see this graph at the end of the year! FX conversion rates as of today: ✨Assets = USD 120,300 / AUD 182,600 ✨Liabilities = USD 103,000 / AUD 156,400 ✨J. #soleparentwealth #assets #liabilities #personalfinance #debtrepayment #networth #networthtracking #pathtowealth #journeytofi #journeytofinancialfreedom #financialsecurity #financialindependence #retireearly #financialindependenceretireearly

I reduced my fixed subscription costs by 80% in 1 year ✨ At some point in 2023 where my subscriptions overlapped, I was spending close to $50/month on subscriptions. Multiply that by 12, that’s close to $600 a year 😱 Fast forward till today, I’m keeping to the bare minimum (with some help from my friends). But here I am also sharing some actionable steps that generally helped: 1. Find replacements: After cancelling Netflix, I streamed shows for free via online sites and spent the time usually used on Netflix on Youtube or LinkedIn Learning 2. Unsubscribe from marketing emails: This reduced my temptation to re-purchase the plan on impulse 3. Leverage free options: When I first tried Duolingo, I was on the free version but I wanted to amp up my Korean language journey hence I got the annual subscription. Even so, I realized I never had to use hearts during lessons - so I figured I could give the free version another go after premium expires. My friend has very kindly offered his Netflix acc to me if I need it, hence no need for me to purchase my own plan. #personalfinance #indexandchill #moneymindset #budgetingtips #budgeting #budgetingbasics #journeytoFIRE #moneymanagement #firemovement #journeytoFI #firecommunity #financialindependence #FIcommunity #chooseFI #financialliteracy #financialfreedom #financialgoals #debtfreejourney #debtfreegoals #debtfreelifestyle #debtfreecommunity #debtfree #savingmoneytips

💰💰 April 2024 net worth update Down $95,862 this month! Almost 100k down (ups! 😂) There are multiple factors to this. First, I had to pay $35k taxes on April 15th, that did not help. Second, the whole market is down, including my company stock which got crushed significantly. Third, I am also spending slightly more as our baby arrival is coming soon! I am not worried about my net worth being down, it will go up eventually by staying consistent and invested! #financialindependenceretireearly #financialindependence #retireearly #journeytofire #personalfinance #financialgoals #debtfree #debtfreecommunity #debtfreejourney #investing #investments #networth #millionaire #millionairemindset #frugal #finance #firecommunity #wealth #wealthbuilding #financialfreedom #journeytofi #firemotivation

✨Where my money went in April✨ Trying a new format for this month that is less complicated. I prefer to keep my expenses around 30k / month - but April went awry with an unplanned trip to Thailand & various other discretionary expenses (dating 😘). But overall it was still a really successful month as I paid out my Australian personal loan - with the use of some cash I had saved!! So grateful that I have the means now to have a spontaneous travel week like that?! A real “pinch myself” moment that made me feel so grateful for the life I’ve been building. Hoping that May will be a lower month for expenses but realistically they may not be due to planned spending on self-care that arises every 3 to 6 months, my child’s birthday & I really need to book accomodation for our summer trip (flights are already booked). It’s really important to me to balance making forward steps with my finances while also living life - otherwise I lose motivation from self-imposed budget constraints. *FX conversions as of today: ✨Income: USD 14,700 / AUD 22,700 ✨Expenses: USD 10,700 / AUD 16,500 ✨Debt repayments: USD 4,615 / AUD 7,100 ✨Investments: USD 460 / AUD 710 How was April for you financially? ✨J. #soleparentwealth #budget #income #expenses #debtrepayments #investments #progresstoFI #journeytoFI #allprogressisgoodprogress #financialsecurity #financialindependence #retireearly #financialindependenceretireearly

Since March was a splurge, I took note of my spendings in April. I hit 74% on savings rate this month! 💃🏼🕺🏼 Some highlights from each category: 💼 side hustle $920 the rest of the side income stems from HYSA bank interest - which will significantly decrease in the next month 💰 investment $6,360 - 4k to crypto - 1.8k to REITs - 0.5k to mutual funds My investment portfolio is not doing so well now, I will do a separate post on this. 🛍️ Shopping $522 - parked under others - 160 on a seasonal character collab merchandise - 230 on interview clothes (a good excuse for shopping 😬) My bonus is coming in sooooon. 💊 Last month, I had to go to urgent care for sudden pain. For my visit without insurance, it cost $300 (for the visit) + $113 (for tests conducted), totaling $413. With insurance, it came out to $245 + $49.33, totaling $294.33. I called the billing department, which took 15 minutes, and was able to have my test bill waived ($49.33) and obtain a 10% discount on my visit, bringing the total to $220.25. During the phone call, I mentioned that the bill was too high and asked if there was anything they could do to lower it. And the story comes to an end. It’s official, I’m moving out in June 3rd And #downgrading to add to that to a 1bed, 1bath apt. As the reasons I had my 2bed, 2bath no longer serve me. They were: 1) Extra room for my parents/friends when they visit - Parents haven’t come in 2 years & we sleep on the couch with all my friends😂 2) Office🗂️ space for WFH days - All I need is a Murphy closet type of thing to set this up not a whole room 3) Extra closet space for my gym & seasonal wear🧣- I’ll be closet purging a whole lot 😮‍💨to not having to clean an extra room and bath and also to saving $500/month 💰chaching!

happy mayday everyone, hope you’re having a good holiday. disappeared for way too long but so far it’s been a profitable ’24 up +USD$1,638 from both strategies, #1 short strangles and #2 ratio spreads. YTD returns of 12.93% and 2.22%, $1,491 and $147 respectively. 🤘 won’t lie though, trading through feb and march had been extremely rough especially since markets just kept going up 📈, regardless of which ticker I was trading on. the call side of my trades kept getting tested. resulting in quite a number of losses, explaining the lower than expected returns during feb - mar. nonetheless, glad expectancy is STILL positive.. for now. :’) apart from that, returns were lower than expected for strategy #2 ratio spreads as compared to index. will give it till the end of year before reevaluating the effectiveness of this strat and if I should pivot away from it. happy trading! . . . . . . #dividend #financialfreedom #options #optionstrading #firemovement #healthyoptions #financialfreedomstartshere #journeytofit #optionstrader #financialfreedom💰 #stockoptions #tradingoptions #firejourney #journeytofire #journeytofi #freedomfinancial #money #trading #investing #makemoney #stockmarketinvesting #dividendstocks #tradingtips #moneytalks #investingforbeginners #dividendincome #investing101 #tradinglifestyle

Happy Labour Day! Making good use of the PH in Singapore to set my goals for this month. ✨Get married to Mr. Y: Absolutely looking forward to become legally married to Mr. Y this month huehue, but we’re probably only planning to have the wedding some time next year after we’re both settled into the married life 😅 ✨Do a 8km hike at least once: It’s been a hot minute since I attempted my 20km half coast hike, so I wanted to ease myself back in as a weekend activity outside of pilates. Starting off easy with 8km first, probably moving up to 10-15km after! ✨Successfully organize 1 work event: As I’ve already been confirmed in my job (yay!) my next goal is to successfully pull off a work engagement event this month! ✨Save/Invest $2,000: After paying down my debt last month, it’s time to rebuild my cache so that I can make another projected payment in June. #personalfinance #indexandchill #moneymindset #budgetingtips #budgeting #budgetingbasics #journeytoFIRE #moneymanagement #firemovement #journeytoFI #firecommunity #financialindependence #FIcommunity #chooseFI #financialliteracy #financialfreedom #financialgoals #debtfreejourney #debtfreegoals #debtfreelifestyle #debtfreecommunity #debtfree #savingmoneytips #wealthbuilding #investing

Just 3 dividends in April, but I’m still liking the healthy monthly average of just about $845. The first month of the quarter is generally lower on dividends, so I’m looking forward to the monthly average trending up again after June. ⏺️ Building enduring and lasting generational wealth takes a lot more than just money. Careful planning is required to ensure that not only is the generation that inherits the wealth keep it but also can pass it safely to the next generation! ▶️The biggest way that people lose generational wealth is lack of financial literacy; hence it being probably the biggest thing you can pass down to generations. ▶️Investing wisely ensures that your hard-earned money continues to work even harder for you and your loved ones. ▶️Saving for your retirement enables the generations after you to not have the financial burden of taking care of you during old age, hence freeing up most of their resources that they can then invest for the coming generations 🗣️Where are you focusing now on your journey to building #generationalwealth ? . . . . . . . #firemovement  #journeytofi  #personalfinance  #financialfreedom  #financialliteracy  #financialindependence  #retireearly  #financialindependenceretireearly  #money  #moneyblogger  #finances  #firecommunity  #moneymanagement  #financeblogger  #firejourney  #millennialmoney  #financialeducation  #moneymotivation  #investment  #investing #moneygoals  #financegoals  #incomestreams  #passiveincome

Happy Monday! Starting the week on a positive note slaying all my goals🎉 ✅ Donate/declutter 20 items: Breaking down spring cleaning to a weekly affair has allowed me to clear 20+ items in April alone! Majority of items were thrown away, remaining of those were mostly donated and a handful sold! ✅ Attend 4 reformer pilates session: Missed 1 weekend as I was out with Mr. Y for a weekend of family bonding, but I replaced them with 2 consecutive days of workouts! ✅ Get confirmed at my job: Have been informed a couple weeks ahead of my probation due that I’ll be confirmed! *relieved sigh* ✅ Pay of $1,000 of debt: Doubled the amount to $2,000, because I could afford it and Papa Y needed the extra cash 😬 #personalfinance #indexandchill #moneymindset #budgetingtips #budgeting #budgetingbasics #journeytoFIRE #moneymanagement #firemovement #journeytoFI #firecommunity #financialindependence #FIcommunity #chooseFI #financialliteracy #financialfreedom #financialgoals #debtfreejourney #debtfreegoals #debtfreelifestyle #debtfreecommunity #debtfree #savingmoneytips #wealthbuilding #investing #investments #sidehustle #incomestreams #dividends

Wanted to elope, but guess I can’t escape from some traditional customs. 😬 one of which includes the betrothal ceremony; my in-laws are expected to give me ‘4 touches of gold’ jewellery. 💎💎💎💎 Mr 1% and I randomly walked into an average jewellery shop and asked for the CHEAPEST set and they quoted “6-7k minimally”. 🫨💸💸 That’s a lot of money for something that I wouldn’t wear. Mr 1% suggested to go for luxury brands’ fashion jewellery and I’m all for it. I added a pair of earrings, bracelet and necklace into my cart, it totalled up to be about 3k. There might be some ‘standards’ for the 4 touches of gold being 99.9% gold but in this age and time… who cares? Happy Friday! Recently I’ve been watching a lot of Ramit’s videos on Youtube and it got me thinking about what MY rich life would be, and I envisioned it to be something like this: 🤩 Freedom to stop working if I wanted to: I foresee myself wanting to have a kid and I’m aware that this will potentially push my retirement age back. However, I want to build passive income portfolio that allows me to stop working or barita FIRE when I want to. 🤩 Travel in business for long haul flights: I’m a huge sucker for comfort and I don’t sleep well on planes. The last time I went on business class though, it was such a comfortable journey that I do not wish to put myself through economy, especially for long haul flights. 🤩 Eat without looking at the price: There is a penchant in me for wanting seasonal/fresh seafood and meats — this translates to premium prices. Hoping to reach a place where I have the luxury to afford fine dining/premium restaurants every month, without breaking the bank. 🤩 Home Ownership: It is my ultimate goal to be able to own a home together with Mr. Y, whether it be a BTO or a resale flat. I hope for a space that we can call our own and furnish to our liking, and I do not mind going back into debt for it. Envisioning my rich life is so motivating, what’s left is to manifest it into reality 🤩 #personalfinance #indexandchill #moneymindset #budgetingtips #budgeting #budgetingbasics #journeytoFIRE #moneymanagement #firemovement #journeytoFI #firecommunity #financialindependence #FIcommunity #chooseFI #financialliteracy #financialfreedom #financialgoals #debtfreejourney #debtfreegoals #debtfreelifestyle #debtfreecommunity #debtfree #savingmoneytips #wealthbuilding #investing #investments #sidehustle #incomestreams #dividends

Hello! How has everyone been? I realized I haven’t been as active as I’d like lately, just because work has been so hectic (and it’s not even our peak period yet 💀). Was just complaining to Mr. Y that I went from texting him sporadically in my old job to only texting him twice in my new one — when I head for lunch and when I get off work. All of that aside, I did make some time to draw out some money from my cache for debt repayments. To recap, this is an interest-free loan from Papa Y, and he’s made it clear that he’s not in a hurry for me to repay the money. However, he’s also self-employed which means his income fluctuates — I usually just pool my debt money into the cache, and repay him during his low income months. On track with my goal to be debt-free by December ✌🏻 #personalfinance #indexandchill #moneymindset #budgetingtips #budgeting #budgetingbasics #journeytoFIRE #moneymanagement #firemovement #journeytoFI #firecommunity #financialindependence #FIcommunity #chooseFI #financialliteracy #financialfreedom #financialgoals #debtfreejourney #debtfreegoals #debtfreelifestyle #debtfreecommunity #debtfree #savingmoneytips #wealthbuilding #investing #investments #sidehustle #incomestreams #dividends

This is the reverse post from yesterday where I shared the things I’m willing to spend money on in 2024. These are the things I’m going to be spending as little on for the year. 2️⃣ Travel - this is a weird one because travel is always in the “splurge” category. However, we blew the travel portion of our mini-retirement budget by nearly 30% 😱and will be dedicating the rest of the year to rebuilding our travel fund. Typically we go on two international trips a year - one “expensive” and one “cheaper” one. This year we will probably skip on the “expensive” one. 2️⃣ Technology - I originally planned to replace some tech (my laptop and desktop) this year, but since we went over budget, I’ve decided to put that on hold. I did buy a new phone, and I hope that’s all the tech I’m going to spend on! 3️⃣ “Stuff” - living out of a suitcase for months has changed my relationship with “stuff” so much. I now know for a fact that I don’t need many things to live comfortably, because we did that for months. This has now translated to my everyday life where I just don’t feel the need to buy “stuff” unless I feel like it will significantly improve my life in a meaningful way. We’re 4 months into 2024 and I don’t think I have bought a single item that would qualify as “stuff” - I hope to keep it that way! Your turn - what are some things you are going to save money on in 2024? #firemovement #journeytofi #personalfinance #financialfreedom #financialliteracy #financialindependence #retireearly #financialindependenceretireearly #money #moneyblogger #finances #firecommunity #moneymanagement #financeblogger #firejourney #millennialmoney #financialeducation #moneymotivation #investment #investing #spendingmoney #travel #budgeting #technology

March concluded at a Savings rate of 27% exceeding our monthly target of 25%. Note that this actually includes Employer retirement matches. We were closing in at a 30% Savings rate for Q1 2024 which is decent considering our Cost of Living has gone by over $1K a month this year. Most of Savings will not be shown under our Financial Independence numbers because they will for a cash down for a new house in the next year. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #personalfinance #personalfinancecanada #networth #passiveincome #investing #firecommunity #financialindependenceretireearly #retireearly #personalfinance #moneybloggers #wealth #wealthbuilding #financialfreedom #journeytofi #frugalliving #frugal #frugallife #personalfinance #dividend #dividendstocks #dividendincome #dividendinvesting #savings #savingsrate #savetoinvest #money #moneychallenge

Q1 2024 is a wrap! . 💰taking a step back to assess your financial situation from a macro level every once in a while can give you valuable insight. . 🌲 It’s easy to miss the forest when all we can see are the trees. . ➕Quarter-ends are a great opportunity to do just that. Above are summarized, aggregated, 3 month numbers in higher-level categories. I’ve also added comparisons back to prior quarter (Q4’23) and prior year (Q1’24). . 💭 Reflecting on the results; here are my thoughts: . 1. While the decrease in gross income looks significant (-15%), I think we still did great this quarter. The drop was entirely due to early bonuses payouts in Q4; salaries alone increased $3k. 2. We did pretty poorly with expenses compared to Q4 which was somewhat expected as we signed the kids up for their activities well into the summer. 3. We managed to grow our NW 7% over Q4. This was significant in my mind because we did worse in almost every metric compared to last quarter but the markets made up for our shortcomings. 4. Despite aggregated gross income dropping, salary increased and makes up the largest piece. Last year was full of extra income; this year won’t likely contain the same volume or frequency of bonuses so that base income in the most significant component and is trending in the right direction. 5. Family memories are important and worth every penny 🥰 . Overall, I’m really happy with how far we’ve come in recent years with our finances. Q1 seemed to be a constant uphill battle and we need to continue to refine our budgeting process and the discipline to stick to it. . I hope sharing our journey helps inspire you to stick to your plan! Slow. And. Redfin's recent report noted that U.S. Real Estate rose 4.8% in March 2024 compared to March 2023. I don't think many PTs are getting raises to keep up with the cost of many things these days including home purchasing. If you're a buyer or potential buyer, you might be happy to know that in that same report, home sales have reduced by almost 10%. Maybe people are starting to feel the hurt from home prices combined with 30-year mortgage rates hovering between 6.5 - 7%. Are you a home buyer and how are you viewing your situation? #investing #newgradpt #firecommunity #financialplanning #financialindepedence #saving #budgeting #wealth #wealthbuilding #journeytofi #financialgoals #personalfinance #millionairemindset #networth #physicaltherapist #spt #dptstudent #dpt #physicaltherapist #networth #realestate #mortgage

Welcome to the 2024 edition of things I’m willing to spend money on! I last did this exercise mid-2022, and thought it’s about time for a refresh. 1️⃣ Comfort - in all areas, physical, mental etc. For example, we recently splurged and bought an expensive set of bedsheets, but now every time we use them it feels amazing and we’re considering buying a second set 😅 2️⃣ Hotels - an extension of #1, but something we’ve learnt spending months on the road for our mini-retirement is that we’re done with Airbnbs. Yes, you might save some money, but there is *always* at least one thing about the place that is a let down, whereas at least hotels will provide a more uniform experience. 3️⃣ Drinks - the non-alcoholic kind! I love having something to drink at home, and I’m allowing myself to buy the good stuff! Fresh juices, kombucha, the more expensive ginger beer - bring it all on! 4️⃣ Social activities (sparingly) - as an introvert, I don’t have a lot of these, so when I do, they’re with people I actually want to hang out with. I tend to be one of the people who asks for more budget-friendly places, but this year I will allow myself to spend more than usual and appreciate the time spent with my friends. How about you? What are you allowing yourself to spend intentionally on in 2024? #firemovement #journeytofi #personalfinance #financialfreedom #financialliteracy #financialindependence #retireearly #financialindependenceretireearly #money #moneyblogger #finances #firecommunity #moneymanagement #financeblogger #firejourney #millennialmoney #financialeducation #moneymotivation #investment #investing #spendingmoney #hotels #budgeting #drinks

✨My Assets✨ These are the asset categories I use to calculate the asset portion of my net worth each month. They each have a range of aspects that relate to their accessibility - cash obviously being the post accessible, through to my Australian retirement account which is largely inaccessible until I am 65 years old. My intention for the second half of 2024 is to push funds into my global brokerage account to increase my ETF holdings. These will accumulate better in the long run than cash & are more accessible than retirement accounts. In my view, brokerage is the key category to the “retire early” part of my FI/RE plans. For physical assets I include my car that was purchased brand new last year & exclude any other physical effects. This is on account of how readily I could flip the physical asset into cash. I don’t have any real estate or any plans to obtain any at this point - but this might change along the way. Are your assets similarly split? Do you take into account any others? ✨J. #soleparentwealth #assets #retirementsavings #superannuation #etfs #brokerage #cash #physicalassets #networth #financialindependence #retireearly #financialindependenceretireearly #buildingwealth #pathtoFI #journeytoFI #FIRE

Why is $6,000,000 our number? . . I’ve been observing the FIRE movement with a curious eye over the past number of years. The occasional office banter complimented thoughts on the subject when colleagues would ask the proverbial, “what’s your number?” . . These conversations were always under banner of a lottery winning… how much would you have to win in the lottery to quit work? I never did any math on this… I just always tended to have a higher number than many others. A few years ago my answer was $16mm; for some reason that seemed like enough. . . Looking at our life now, the plans for our future, the level of enjoyment I get from work, and safe withdrawal rates (~4%); we finally came to a number. . 🎯 $6,000,000 . This would allow us to pull $240k of income annually. While this is a lot; we’ve got 3 kids who may eventually have kids of their own. We’d love to be able to fund our grand children’s post-secondary education, family trip, maybe even buy a vacation property. . This number may change throughout the years, in fact, I expect it to. In speaking with Mrs. Bean, even if I hit this number tomorrow, I’m still not sure that I’d leave my job 😂. . I’ll post up some charts at our current savings rate in the near future to evaluate when we might eventually meet this number. . I hope sharing our journey helps inspire you to stick to your plan! Slow. And. Steady 🐢 . . . #financialindependenceretireearly #financialindependence #retirement #retireearly #personalfinance #financialpeace #financialpeaceuniversity #financialgoals #debtfree #debtfreeliving #marriedfinances #savings #investing #debtfreejourney #money #millionaire #babysteps #finance #savingsrate #firemovement #networth #daveramsey #marriageandmoney #journeytofi #themoneyguy

Sinking fund update (end of March): We're over our quarterly goal which is exciting and definitely making some good progress on all of the categories - we did put a little more emphasis on travel since I was traveling and needed to tap a little into that pot ☺️ Our car expenses and maintenance category isn't going to increase until most of the other ones are done since a little of our car expenses are now covered by the business (insurance, gas, some routine maintenance) - so the rest of money in there is just for for any bigger ticket maintenance needs . . . . . . . . #firemovement  #journeytofi  #personalfinance  #financialfreedom  #financialliteracy  #financialindependence  #retireearly  #financialindependenceretireearly  #money  #moneyblogger  #finances  #firecommunity  #moneymanagement  #financeblogger  #firejourney  #millennialmoney  #financialeducation  #moneymotivation  #investment  #investing #moneygoals  #financegoals  #incomestreams  #passiveincome
