Día 30: Kentucky Buck. Algo que quería enfatizar de los sábados de feria es que las posibilidades son infinitas, porque aunque yo me pongo a hacer infusiones, realmente se puede variar el sabor de cualquier cóctel al agregar frutas, vegetales o hierbas antes de mezclar (y majando). También me di cuenta que este mes no había hecho ninguno con fresa, entonces salió el Kentucky Buck para hoy. Receta: -2 oz de bourbon -3/4 de oz de jugo de limón mandarino -1/2 oz de sirope simple -2 a 3 fresas -2 dashes de bitters de angostura (opcional) -4 oz de ginger beer para toppear En un shaker agregar todos los ingredientes excepto la ginger beer, y majar la fresa. La pueden cortar de antemano para ayudar el proceso. Mezclar con hielo por 10-15s. Servir en un vaso alto con hielo y toppear con ginger beer. Decorar con limón y fresa. Esta fue una de las sorpresas del mes. Está muyy rico, ya he dicho que soy fan del ginger beer pero en este caso siento que es secundario al sabor de la fresa. Es vacilón que este y el otro de feria donde se usan ingredientes sin preparación previa fueron de mis favoritos jaja, bueno estos y el de jugo de sandía 👀 Pero sí, sé que aquí solo subo como recetas que encuentro o me invento, pero en serio me gustaría dejar la lección como de que se pueden volver locos y usar lo que les guste a la hora de mezclar. El año pasado también subí muchas recetas medio neutras que son perfectas para preparar variaciones así. Quería hacerle otro shout-out a @que_malacrianza_tt porque es una roomie muy buen ride y pintó este mural muy bello que me ha servido para tomar algunas fotos afuera. Ya estoy nostálgico del mes eh, lo empecé sin saber cómo me iba a ir. Pero me siento muy contento, siento que el line up quedó muy bueno y que casi todos los recomendaría a ciegas. Loins! After years of passing up good bucks, I finally had a great one walk out. The evening before, I had a quality 9-point come within 50 yards, just downwind of me. I had my bow and would have been more than happy with that deer had he come closer and given me a shot. Luckily for him, and me, he winded me and kept his 50 yard distance until moving off further up the hollow. The following morning was opening rifle season, and I decided to take full advantage of the ability to reach out and poke a little further than 40 yards. Other than the 9-point and a young 6-point the day before, I hadn’t seen any deer in my area, just sign and a whole lot of squirrels. The next day I spent most of the morning watching squirrels do acrobatics all around me. The subtle differences in sound between squirrels and deer walking through the leaves is not easy to distinguish. When I finally did turn around and see this deer, he was already almost parallel to me traveling down the hollow. I counted tines on his right beam and could see it was symmetrical to his left, 10 points, this was the kind of deer I never see. I grabbed my gun and put him in my crosshair. He was about to pass behind a wide tree and crest into the next hollow. “meh…..Meh…MEH! MEHH!!!” Finally, he stopped just before the tree. Free handing my rifle, I took the shot. He bucked once and bull-dozed towards the adjacent hollow. I watched him reach the crest of the two hollows and fall. Big buck down! I really appreciate @evan_rankin and @gilesrankin for the deer camp invite. This trip will be remembered. Also congratulations to Evan for also bagging another awesome 10-point buck! They might be brothers!

Perfect way to end the summer and start up the fall On September 9th I was Blessed to put down my first Kentucky buck “Smoke”. I found this deer on my first trip down to Kentucky in June and it was game on since. Huge shoutout to @nicknartkeroutdoors for grinding it out with me day by day and filming the hunt perfect in 95 degrees and bugs in our face. Another huge shoutout to all my boys @treecrutv for driving back and forth to Kentucky week after week to locate these deer and film this whole story come together. Nothing better than having some great pals along to help retrieve the deer and share the memories all in one. Kentucky was no walk in the Park for us, but home opener in Pennsylvania starts tomorrow. Well Kentucky public land wins again...all of the deer were in heat, as were we! 😁 It was very challenging hiking in as far as we did each hunt in 94 degree heat and dealing with dove hunters around us, but we'd go right back and do it again! Justin had a giant buck and 2 other smaller bucks come through just out of range yesterday morning as he was packing his gear up to head down the tree at 10:30 am but the deer never showed back up again. We did manage to find some great new hunting ground that we are excited to hunt in the future so that is a plus! I had about 900 mL of left over batched Kentucky Buck after a party. I purposefully didn’t mix in the sparkling water in case we didn’t finish it, so I could milk-clarify it. This was my first time milk-clarity a drink that includes bubbles. You lose a bit of the texture from the process, but it tasted amazing! BOURBON + REFRESHING?? Yep, that's a thing. 🍓 There's nothing wrong with a whiskey coke but sometimes you want to switch it up for something fun and seasonal. When that mood strikes, take a mule, add some Bourbon and ripe strawberries, and you've got yourself a Kentucky Buck - originally created by San Diego local, Erick Castro! @hungrybartender 🌟 Pro Tip 🌟 The original recipe calls for a homemade ginger syrup (see recipe below, it is *chefs kiss*) but if you don't have the time or ingredients, the recipe above will do just fine in a pinch. Instructions: Muddle the strawberry (with your ginger syrup, if using) in the bottom of your cocktail shaker. Add lemon juice, bourbon, and bitters. Fill tin with ice and shake until chilled. Double strain into a higball glass and top with ginger beer (replace with soda water if using homemade giner syrup). Garnish with a lemon wheel. Ginger Syrup: Add 3 parts sugar to 4 parts ginger juice, mix until dissolved. OR try chopping a 2 inch chunk of ginger into small pieces and muddling with simple syrup and strawberries in your cocktail shaker. Kentucky Buck, recipe from @diffordsguide 2 Oz Bourbon (@fourrosesbourbon single barrel) 3/4 Oz Lemon Juice 1/2 Oz Simple Syrup 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters 3 Strawberries, muddled Ginger Beer, to top up My birthday always coincides with @wimbledon, and so I wanted to make something to combine my favorite spirit (bourbon) and my favorite sport (tennis). Wimbledon is inextricably associated with strawberries, et voilà, the Kentucky buck. I followed the Diffords guide recipe, but all recipes have the same basic components: Strawberries, Lemon, Ginger, Sugar, Bitters, Bourbon. I prefer this one for the bubbles. Next time, I would make a strawberry syrup in lieu of simple to really turn up the strawberry flavor. The drink was inspired by his obsession with the 'buck' style category of drinks and the need to add a new bourbon cocktail to the spring menu. Ginger beer. Garnish: Mint sprig and strawberry. Muddle strawberries in tin together with ginger syrup. Add bitters, lemon juice, and bourbon. Shake with ice for 15sec. Strain into collins glass. Add 1oz Ginger Beer, then ice, give a quick stir and top with more ginger beer. Garnish with mint snd strawberry.
