We are thrilled to share that Porcelain id ( @porcelain_id ) will be performing live at @abconcerts on the 21st of April, 2024. Make sure to get your tickets! Don’t miss the chance to witness their ability to captivate audiences with their unique blend of talent and creativity. Following the release of their debut record “Bibi:1” and in light of their upcoming show, KET Magazine has met up with Porcelain id to talk about their music, and their experience in the music industry as a queer POC. "We should be allowed to contain multitudes. That’s what my Porcelain id is. I don’t want to be forced to make a decision as to how or what I can present myself as. Having to choose just one little aspect of my identity is just not fair because that kind of pressure is not put on people/artists that aren’t of colour. We shouldn’t have to choose one thing just because it fits the narrative. It should be because it’s what you are and what you like. Point blank." We are buzzing with excitement as @thisisluckylove, the multifaceted artist and advocate for diversity, is set to grace the stage in Brussels. After an exclusive performance at the Magritte du Cinéma ceremony or during Fashion Week, from the Maison Margiela show in Paris to the Gucci menswear presentation in Milan, his first-ever concert in Brussels is scheduled for April 2 at @botanique_bxl. Lucky Love's music resonates with authenticity and courage. His latest single, "Masculinity," in its radio edit version, is making waves, challenging societal norms and redefining what it means to be masculine in today's world. With over 10 million streams, the track has struck a chord with audiences worldwide. Lucky Love's journey intertwines with Belgium, where he spent formative years of his life. From attending secondary school at the Institut Saint-Luc in Tournai to forging friendships with influential figures like Romeo Elvis, Belgium holds a special place in his heart. "Masculinity" stands as a testament to Lucky Love's commitment to authenticity and social commentary. Through the song, Lucky Love amplifies the voices of those who defy societal expectations and embrace their true selves. "This gave me the opportunity to explore the many facets of masculinity in song," he explains in a statement. In short, it's a "big, fat f*** with patriarchy and toxic masculinity". “I think Masculinity is the most vulnerable song of the entire project. I’d never felt safe to say that it’s hard to be a man. This patriarchal system is not only detrimental to women— it destroys everyone who doesn’t adhere to the idea. And I am one of them. I grew up without an arm, I was gay, I found out I’m HIV positive. This image of a strong “alpha male” is so far away from me. Even in the gay community, there is this fixation on hypermasculinity. I was twenty-seven when I wrote Masculinity, and it was the age when I thought I’d become that strong guy they all talk about. I quickly realised that it didn’t make me happy at all.” Read the full article on ket.brussels. #ketmagazine #brussels #queer #magazine #luckylove

Fans of @angele_vl will be glad to learn she just released a new song with Italian singer @mahmood. Mahmood is well known for Eurovision fans since he represented his country twice the last years and finished second with his song Soldi in 2019. The song Sempre/Jamais is on his just released album “Nei letti degli altri” that he will be performing on April 6th at Cirque Royal. Will Angèle be joining him on stage to gift the Belgian audience? After enchanting audiences worldwide with her Nonante-Cinq Tour until last September, the charismatic Belgian singer Angèle is back in the limelight, and this time, she's joined forces with Italian sensation Mahmood, creating a musical masterpiece that transcends borders and languages. The creative process behind "Sempre/Jamais" was an organic fusion of talent. Dardust, one of the song's producers, revealed, "It was very instinctive, very fluid. We started with the melody of the chorus, a synth riff, and Angèle contributed some of the French lyrics." The two artists invested two years in crafting this musical gem, eventually recording it in the vibrant city of Paris. This isn't Angèle's maiden duet; she has a penchant for making her mark beyond the French-speaking realm. Previously, she collaborated with Flemish artist Tamino on "Sunflower," capturing hearts across linguistic boundaries. The internationally acclaimed duet with Dua Lipa, titled "Fever," not only won over Anglo-Saxon audiences but also opened doors to the U.S. music scene, earning her an invitation to the prestigious Coachella festival. Now, Angèle has set her sights on captivating the Italian public alongside Mahmood. The song's co-writer, Dardust, a highly sought-after Italian composer and producer, expressed gratitude to Angèle for her contribution to the creation of this remarkable piece. Expressing his appreciation on Instagram, Mahmood thanked Angèle and added, "bb I love you, I can't wait." The connection between the two artists goes beyond music, embodying the spirit of collaboration and friendship. @jasperpublie_jepp opens up about his musical journey and his experience on @thevoicebe so far. Embarking on a solo career, the young artist brings a fresh perspective and undeniable talent to the program. Get ready for a glimpse into his world of talent and passion! What made you want to participate in The Voice? “I think the biggest reason is because I felt ready to do it. I’ve been making music for a long time because it is my passion. Some kids develop a passion for sports early on, mine was music. I formed a band when I was incredibly young, and I can’t remember a time that music wasn’t a major part of my life. I’ve learned a lot with my band. Then, when it ended, I decided to go to the Conservatory to study music because I knew I wanted to pursue it, to create new projects, to write for myself. I was around 21 years old at that time, so it came at a moment where I was discovering myself and parts of my identity. There was this sense of change, and all of it had a huge impact on me and on the way I perceive music. Before, I used to think of music as just singing and having fun —as it should be, especially as a kid. As I got older, I felt a need to get closer to myself and a need for my music to reflect that. I did not want to be just a person on stage, performing songs. I wanted to be a part of the whole artistic process, and to write songs that are close to me and represent who I am, the people that surround me, the parties that I go to, and just my personality in general. I have done TV before, but I wouldn’t have felt ready to do a TV program such as The Voice three years ago. I was still in this process of discovering which path I wanted to follow, of discovering myself. I wouldn’t have known how to open up in the way I can now. Today, I know who I am as an artist, I know where I want to go.” Read the full article on ket.brussels #ketmagazine #brussels #queer #magazine #jepp #thevoicebe

CONTEST: KET Magazine offers you 10x2 tickets for the movie "20,000 Especies de Abejas" at @cinema.galeries. To participate : - Follow @ket_magazine - Like this post - Tag 1 friend in comment Contest closes on Thursday March 7. In a poignant exploration of gender identity and familial bonds, the upcoming film "20,000 Especies de Abejas" captures the essence of a family in transition. Directed by @estiurresola, this Spanish gem unfolds the story of eight-year-old Cocó, played by the remarkable Sofía Otero, as she embarks on a journey to embrace her true identity as Lucía. This powerful narrative, slated to hit cinemas on March 6, presents an emotional and transformative experience that resonates deeply with the LGBTQIA+ community. The heart of the film lies in Ane's unwavering support for her child's freedom to be who they truly are. Cocó's entourage insists on using the name Aitor, a name that no longer aligns with her identity. As tensions rise within the family, the movie becomes a delicate exploration of identity, acceptance, and the struggles faced by those who challenge societal expectations. Director Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren artfully weaves a tale of self-discovery and acceptance, drawing inspiration from her own experiences with gender identity. The film reflects on the director's childhood, marked by a fracture between assigned roles at home and societal expectations. Urresola Solaguren's movie is reminiscent of the impactful work of directors like Céline Sciamma. "20,000 Especies de Abejas" is not just a film; it's a mirror reflecting the experiences of families grappling with the journey of their transgender children. In preparation for the movie, the director engaged with 20 families, offering a raw and intimate portrayal of their lives. The film's lead, Sofía Otero, delivers a magnetic performance that earned her the prestigious Silver Bear for Best Acting Performance at the Berlinale, making her the youngest ever recipient of this accolade. Back to the werkroom, it’s time to get ready for the runway and to learn a little bit more about the queens. They decide to talk about using and accepting their body while doing drag. The recent @missbelgium_official pageant has offered notable outcomes that align with broader discussions on diversity and representation in societal institutions, including beauty contests. This year’s event highlighted significant developments that may interest observers from various communities, including feminist and LGBTQIA+ circles. @lennie_fromtheblock, a trans woman who recently featured on the cover of Ket Magazine, was awarded Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants. This title, reflective of peer recognition, suggests a growing acceptance and inclusivity within the pageant for individuals of diverse gender identities. Blockmans’ recognition in the competition is a step towards wider representation in public platforms, which may resonate with ongoing discussions about visibility and equality for the LGBTQIA+ community. In the same competition, @kenzaameloot, a 22-year-old with a mixed Rwandan-Belgian heritage, clinched the title of Miss Belgium. Ameloot, an international business student and model, embodies a blend of cultural identities, reflecting the multifaceted nature of beauty. Her victory, succeeding Emilie Vansteenkiste as Miss België and Miss Universe Belgium, brings to the forefront the evolving criteria within beauty pageants that appear to value diversity and intellect alongside traditional notions of aesthetics. These outcomes from the Miss Belgium pageant might be seen as indicative of a gradual shift in the landscape of beauty contests, toward embracing a broader spectrum of backgrounds and stories. The recognition of Blockmans and the crowning of Ameloot can be viewed in the context of ongoing dialogues about what constitutes beauty and who is represented in such competitions. Rita tells everyone that Gabanna and Star cheated. They looked at the judges sheets behind the desk when no one was looking but it was caught on camera. They get a warning. During the judges comment, Morphae feels very disappointed. After hearing she can’t present dark looks every week. She feels defeated. She explains she will not be able to change the way she is and ecides to leave in a very touching moment. She becomes the third queen of the season to sashay away. Star and La Veuve are safe. Alvilda is the winner for this episode. Gabanna is also in the top. Chloe is placed low but is safe anyway. Loulou is alone in the bottom because Morphae just left. Rita offers her to lipsync alone while being assured not to be eliminated. She then honours the song “I’m not your toy” by Netta. Belgium’s @eurovision Song Contest 2024 participant, @mustiimusic, has unveiled the vibrant and collaborative music video for his entry, ‘Before the Party’s Over,’ a song that transcends borders. The release not only marks a significant moment for the artist but also emphasizes the Eurovision’s enduring theme of unity through music. The song immediately climbed to 7th place in the bookmakers’ predictions. The song, a collaboration with Pierre Dumoulin and Ben Leclercq, stands out for its unique approach. More than a thousand anonymous voices responded to an online call, coming together to create the powerful final chorus. Mustii, also known as actor and singer Thomas Mustin, shared the inspiration behind the song, drawing from Chekhov’s Three Sisters to articulate its essence. “I wanted this song to be an optimistic, euphoric surge. A gradual journey from the intimate to the final outburst (in both form and content),” he explained. The lyrics encourage living life to the fullest, embracing intensity, experimentation, and breaking free from comfort zones. Mustii poetically draws parallels between a night of revelry and the journey of life, emphasizing the importance of fully embracing oneself before the inevitable end. To celebrate the release of the music video, Mustii has announced a series of unofficial pre-Eurovision parties across Europe. The tour kicks off on Saturday, April 6, in Barcelona, followed by London on Sunday, April 7, in Amsterdam on Saturday, April 13, and concluding with Stockholm on Sunday, April 14. Additionally, mark your calendars for Mustii’s biggest indoor show yet on the 25th of April at @forestnational. This event promises an unforgettable experience. Don’t miss the ticket sale starting today. Save the dates, as the Eurovision Song Contest takes place in Malmö, Sweden, on Tuesday, May 7 (First Semi-Final), Thursday, May 9 (Second Semi-Final), and Saturday, May 11 (Grand Final) in 2024. Did you all have the chance to see this week’s episode yet? Watch @dragracebelgique every Thursday on Auvio and Sunday on @tipikrtbf. This is our review of the episode so this article contains major spoilers. If you haven’t watched the episode yet, do that and come back later. The maxi-challenge is announced and it is a girl group challenge! The contestants must create a nineties inspired song with a verse for each girl and a group choreography. The first group is “Identitties” with @morphae._, @la.veuve, @_alvilda, and @itsgabanna. The second group is “Slyc” with @itschloeclarke, @madameyokolsy, @star.the.dragqueen, and @loulouvelvet. @ladiva_live, the well-known singing drag queen visits the dra artists to discuss their ideas. Back to the werkroom, it’s time to get ready for the runway and to learn a little bit more about the queen’s childhood and teenage years. Morphae and Alvilda explain they have been bullied and experienced physical violence. It resulted in Morphae having to be treated by a psychiatrist and be medicated. For Alvilda, it lead her to have suicidal thoughts. The art of drag helped them heal from these wounds. We move to the main stage and get together with the judges. @ritabagaz, @lio_la_vraie, @mustiimusic and the guest judge: the influencer @gaellegd. Slyc performs the song “Attitude” and Identitties peforms “Be yourself”. Both tracks are hilarious but “Be yourself” seems the best one. The runway theme is “Art Nouveau”. We are unbelievably impressed by Alvilda’s warrior outfit. Gabanna and Chloe Horta-inspired outfits are also very beautiful. We are less impressed by Star’s Mucha-inspired outfit. Identitties is the winning girl group. Loulou, Morphae and Gabanna are safe. Alvilda is the winner for this episode. Chloe is also in the top. Star is placed low but is safe anyway. La Veuve and Yoko have to lipsync for their life on “Bruxelles je t’aime” by Angèle. La Veuve wins the lipsync and gets to stay. Yoko sadly becomes the second queen of the season to sashay away. Did you all have the chance to see this week’s episode yet? Watch @dragracebelgique every Thursday on Auvio and Sunday on @tipikrtbf. This is our review of the episode so this article contains major spoilers. If you haven’t watched the episode yet, do that and come back later. The maxi-challenge is announced and it is a sewing challenge: @madameyokolsy who won the mini-challenge turns the wheel to assign a color that each queen will use to create an outfit. The contestants are visited by @ritabagaz to discuss their ideas. @loulouvelvet is confident and reveals she studied fashion design. @la.veuve and @morphae._ are feeling very inspired. @sarahlogan_stephaneartist, @itschloeclarke, and especially @_alvilda are afraid because sewing is not their main quality. Back to the werkroom, it’s time to get ready for the runway and to learn a little bit more about the queen’s journey with queerness. Sarah explains that experimenting with drag helped her accept herself. Loulou confesses that growing up in an Arabic family, she felt she was the only person in the world feeling gay because she didn’t know at first it existed. Discovering the drag scene was a revelation. It helped her find her way and managing her eating disorder. We move to the main stage and get together with the judges. @lio_la_vraie, @mustiimusic and the two guest judges: @_marieguerin, @ellebelgique Magazine’s editor in chief, and hat designer @elvispompilio. The runway theme is “Drag en ciel”. We are unbelievably impressed by Loulou’s outfit representing white in a very haute couture way. Morphae representing black is also very well done. We are less impressed by Sarah’s green outfit. @star.the.dragqueen, Morphae and @itsgabanna are safe. Without a doubt, Loulou is the winner of this episode. Alvilda and Yoko are also in the top. La Veuve is placed low but is safe anyway. Chloe and Sarah have to lipsync for their life on “Mad about you” by Hooverphonic. Chloe wins the lipsync and gets to stay. Did you all have the chance to see this week’s episode yet? Watch @dragracebelgique every Thursday on Auvio and Sunday on @tipikrtbf. This is our review of the episode so this article contains major spoilers. If you haven’t watched the episode yet, do that and come back later. This year, the winner will take home a crown, a scepter and a cash prize of 20.000€ like last year but also one year of @nyxcosmectics_benelux. @ritabagaz finally appears and invites the queens to their first mini-challenge: a photoshoot on a unicorn riding machine. Absurde is not ridicule. The winner is Alvilda! Rita announces that the maxi-challenge is a talent show in front of season one queens. On the main stage, we meet the judging panel: @lio_la_vraie, the well-know singer has been promoted from being a guest judge last year. Singer/actor @mustiimusic is back for a second season. They are joined by two guest judges for this episode: Tv presenter and former Miss Belgium @tatianasilva_official and Drag Race France’s very first winner @paloma_hugobardin. The talent show begins and we are impressed by Alvilda’s number dancing with flames even if she got us scared with a fall during the performance. La Veuve makes us laugh with her shady tarot reading sessions. We are mesmerized by @loulouvelvet’s burlesque feathers and glitter. We are also captivated by @morphae._’s unexplainable piano ballad on IV. The runway theme is “Drache Nationale” and let’s say our Belgian famous rain has never been so fashionable. We are mostly impressed by Morphae’s sad rain outfit, La Veuve’s puffy jacket dress, and Gabanna’s see-through raincoat. Chloe’s vinyle outfit is very impressing but out of theme. La Veuve and @_alvilda are in the top but it is @la.veuve who steals the first win. Morphae hears she’s safe. @itsgabanna and @itschloeclarke are the two queens lipsyncing for their lives on “Rain on me” from Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande. Chloe wins the lipsync and gets to stay. Gabanna sadly has to sashay away. But wait! Looks like Rita wants to give her a second chance. It’s a surprise double shantay. From 17 January till 24 January 2024, @forbiddencoloursfund organizes its third queer art charity auction with 24 artworks donated by artists and galleries. The auction, organized by @art22gallery under the patronage of @antenorauction, will take place online on drout.com. Every euro raised goes directly to supporting the work of Forbidden Colours as none of our trusted partners charge any fees. Everyone is welcome to come to view the art, meet the Forbidden Colours’ team and drink a glass to more human rights and democracy in Europe. Forbidden Colours is a Belgian NGO focusing on delivering human rights and democracy for LGBTIQ+ people in Europe. In 2023, Forbidden Colours convinced 16 EU Member States to join the European Commission in bringing Hungary in front of the Court of Justice of the EU for its ‘anti-LGBT propaganda law’ adopted in 2021. The ruling of what has now become the largest human rights’ case brought in front of the Court of Justice of the EU should take place in 2024. Forbidden Colours also coordinates the United4Diversity initiative bringing together a wide range of stakeholders to address the threats posed by the so-called ‘anti-gender’ movements. Beyond its advocacy for the human rights of LGBTIQ+ people in Europe, Forbidden Colours supports local initiatives trying to secure and promote the human rights of LGBTIQ+ people in Europe. Belgian cinemas are set to host the much-anticipated premiere of the critically acclaimed Japanese drama film “Monster” today. Directed and edited by Hirokazu Kore-eda, the film delves into the complexities of love, identity, and understanding within the context of a compelling family drama. “Monster” stars Sakura Andō as Saori, a mother confronted with the unsettling changes in her son Minato’s behavior. The plot takes an unexpected turn when Saori discovers a connection between her son’s distress and one of his teachers. The ensuing narrative unfolds through the lens of not just Saori but also the teacher and young Minato, revealing a web of intricacies that transcend the initial appearance of a simple school bullying drama. The movie had its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 17, 2023, where it not only competed for the prestigious Palme d’Or but also earned accolades such as the @queerpalm and the Best Screenplay award. The Queer Palm, awarded by a jury chaired by American actor and director John Cameron Mitchell, recognizes outstanding films with LGBTQIA+ themes. Brussels movie director Zeno Graton was also part of the Queer Palm jury this year. “Monster” marks a significant departure for Hirokazu Kore-eda, as it is the first film he directed but did not write himself since Maborosi (1995). Additionally, the film holds a poignant distinction as the final scoring project by the late Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away two months before its release. The movie is dedicated to his memory. The storyline of “Monster” takes a multifaceted approach, evolving from a tale of school bullying to a nuanced exploration of close and even amorous relationships, reminiscent of Lukas Dhont’s “Close.” The Queer Palm jury, recognizing the film’s profound impact, awarded this prestigious prize to “Monster.” It follows in the footsteps of the film “Joyland” by Pakistan’s Saim Sadiq awarded the year before. As “Monster” makes its way into Belgian cinemas, don’t miss the chance to witness this award-winning masterpiece. A well know face for the Brussels queer community, @iamchaild, could lead Luxembourg’s Eurovision return. After a hiatus of more than three decades, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is set to make a triumphant return to the Eurovision stage in 2024. The small yet culturally rich nation has officially unveiled the 8 candidates who will compete for the chance to represent Luxembourg in the upcoming @eurovision Song Contest, scheduled to take place in Sweden this May. For those who remember the last time Luxembourg graced Eurovision in 1993, the anticipation surrounding the national selection, known as the Luxembourg Song Contest (@rtleurovision), is nothing short of palpable. The candidates, a mix of fresh faces and seasoned talents, are ready to bring their A-game to Malmö and showcase the diverse musical landscape of the Grand Duchy. Among the contenders stands CHAiLD, a familiar name to the LGBTQIA+ community in Brussels. This 25-year-old artist, who had previously collaborated with Maz Univerze on the track “Night Call,” is now making a solo comeback. Despite residing in Brussels, CHAiLD’s electro-pop style, infused with a melancholic touch, has already gained recognition in his home country, Luxembourg. In 2019, CHAiLD emerged as a powerful voice for queer youth, winning the Screaming Fields Festival and kickstarting a career that has seen the release of multiple tracks and the debut EP, “Urgent Care,” which dropped last spring, featuring the eponymous track. The song he will choose to take part in the national selection will be revealed in January. The results will be known on the day of the event on January 27th. CHAiLD is a generational voice for queer youth. His unique style and unwavering commitment to representing the LGBTQIA+ community align seamlessly with the values of inclusivity and diversity championed by Eurovision. We hope for him to become the selected candidate and see him compete next to @mustiimusic, our Belgian contestant. @lennie_fromtheblock is the first transgender contestant in the @missbelgium_official pageant. “I’m a 25-year-old applied psychology student from Antwerp. I started my gender transition from male to female at the age of 18, a process that took everything out of me to become who I always felt I was inside. Today I’m the best version of myself and I thank myself for that every single day. My life changed in drastic ways but looking back, I’m grateful. It has shaped me into who I am today. I can truly say I’m very happy with myself.” “Currently, the biggest thing that’s going on is my participation in the national pageant of Miss Belgium. I’m one of the first (openly) trans candidates. It made quite a lot of waves in the press. I wanted to make a statement and start a dialogue, which I think I succeeded in. I feel like I have already reached my goals just by being a candidate. The little boy who I was growing up would never have believed it if he knew what his future self could accomplish. Therefore, everything I do from this point on will be for him. I’ve always dreamed of a career in fashion, television, or modeling. I want to continue to tell my story and inspire others.” “Belgium is a pretty good place for queer people in general. Of course, we do have to deal with discrimination, violence, or hate. Some reactions I got because of the pageant are a perfect example. However, in terms of health care and insurance, we’re in a good spot. As far as visibility goes I think we’re doing fine, but it could always be better. We have visibility in the government and the media. But on the other hand, I think we still achieve more.” “I volunteer at @hetrozehuisantwerpen, the local LGBTQIA+ organisation. I’m part of @t_buddy_belgie, an organization that works around buddyship for trans people who are just starting out, or who are still questioning. My best friend also has her own organisation, called Keerpunt in Hasselt. Both initiatives focus on bringing people together and creating a safe space for our community." During this Transgender Awareness Week, check out @victoriapiya’s carte blanche: ‘Visibility, a double-edged sword’. To introduce the theme of trans visibility in the latest issue of KET, we decided to offer carte blanche to Victoriæ Defraigne, author of the book “Transidentities explained to my parents (and to all the others)”. Victoriæ continues to be a strong trans activist in Belgium. She has been one of the hosts of the Brussels Pride. "As I often like to tell, I wondered for a long time why it had taken me so long to understand my transidentity. Why did it take me so many years to put into words a feeling that, once understood, seemed so obvious? It was only when I watched Disclosure, a documentary directed (among others) by Laverne Cox, that I understood: all my life, I had been fed with wrong representations of transidentities, of trans people. The transfeminine characters I had grown up with, played by cisgender men, were mocked, pointed at, and ridiculed. How could I recognize myself in an identity that no one respected? Who would want to identify with something that seemed disgusting to the media? Nobody would.” “It was not until I had access to more sincere and authentic representations of trans women that I understood who I was. Learning about visibility and the experiences of other trans people helped me realise how powerful of a weapon visibility could be, for trans people themselves but also for spreading information and deconstructing the false beliefs linked to our identities.” Full article on ket.brussels #ketmagazine #brussels #queer #magazine #transvisibility #transawarenessweek

Brussels is currently celebrating the vibrant colors and voices of queer cinema with the 22nd edition of the @pinkscreens_festival, organized by Genres d’à côté and Cinéma Nova, from November 9th to 18th. This ten-day festival not only showcases over a hundred films from across the globe but also places a special emphasis on Belgian cinema, particularly with the “Made in Belgium” short film sessions. This year, along with the international selection, the festival is giving special attention to Belgian queer cinema. A highlight is the award for the best Belgian short film, underscoring the festival’s commitment to nurturing and recognizing local talent in the queer film community. The festival features a diverse mix of fiction, documentaries, and experimental films, both feature-length and short, across various city center cinemas. Paul B. Preciado’s debut film “Orlando, ma biographie politique,” a personal adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s novel, is a standout. This is accompanied by a focus on “Orlando” with a contemporary Taiwanese film “As We Like It” and Sally Potter’s iconic “Orlando” starring Tilda Swinton. Cinema as a medium of political expression is a key theme this year, with a special focus on films that explore resistance and power dynamics. In remembrance of the late Paul Vecchiali, a revered figure in queer cinema, the festival, in collaboration with @cinematekbe, presents a retrospective of his work. Diversity is a cornerstone of the festival, with films from Africa, India, Taiwan, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Europe, and a strong showing of at least ten Belgian short films. Beyond films, Pink Screens is a celebration of queer artistry and expression, with exhibitions, readings, performances, and social events at Nova bar and @cinema.galeries. It’s a platform for dialogue, community building, and vibrant celebrations. As the festival nears its end, don’t miss the opportunity to be part of this empowering and enlightening journey. And while the films continue to inspire, the festival will conclude with a bang at the sold-out closing party, PINK NIGHTEKE, at @barrio.brussels on November 18. #ketmagazine #brussels #queer #magazine #pinkscreensfestival

As the world sets its sights on the @paris2024 Olympic Games, the conversation around inclusion in sports has never been more vital. In the heart of Europe, Brussels is not just the capital of the continent but also a burgeoning epicenter of a transformative movement. KET Magazine is proud to announce a compelling series of articles that shine a light on how the Region is spearheading inclusivity in athletics. Through the lens of organizations and individuals who are breaking barriers and opening doors, we’ll explore the vibrant tapestry of initiatives making sports a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ individuals. Often, members of the LGBTQIA+ community carry with them the weight of exclusion and harassment experienced in their younger sporting lives. Yet, as the anticipation for the Olympics grows, so does the importance of addressing the persistent shadow of homophobia that lingers in sports. This series will not only celebrate the progress but also confront the challenges, reinforcing the imperative that every child and adult should have the freedom to be their authentic selves in the pursuit of athletic excellence. Join us as we dive into the stories of change-makers and athletes alike, who are part of a collective effort to ensure that the spirit of sportsmanship transcends gender, orientation, and identity. Because in Brussels, the game is changing—and for the better. Initially an all-male team, the @fab.whales.brussels was founded in 2019 following a club-wide email and social media callout, along with organized swimming tryouts. In 2022, the team embraced a more inclusive approach, welcoming members regardless of gender identity, united by shared values rather than chromosomes. The team currently boasts 16 swimmers, 11 of whom identify as male. Their priority remains to create space primarily for those who aren’t cisgender women, acknowledging the existing accessibility of artistic swimming for this group. The eagerly awaited new print issue of KET Magazine is officially out and available for the taking. Best of all? It’s absolutely free. For our valued readers in Brussels and the major cities throughout Belgium, rest assured that your fresh copy awaits you. We’ve ensured its distribution across all the safer spaces catering to our vibrant LGBTQIA+ community. And for our supporters across the border? It is also available in the nearby cities in neighbouring countries. Why This Issue Matters In light of the ongoing challenges faced by the trans community – from violence and discrimination to hatred – this edition spotlights trans visibility. The need for unity within the LGBTQIA+ community has never been more critical, especially when juxtaposing the progress made in certain nations against the rising repression in others. In this vein, five remarkable Belgian trans personalities candidly discuss their perspectives on visibility and its impact. Furthermore, our second segment delves deep into the realm of fetishes and kinks. Aiming to foster understanding and respect, we explore the significance of the codes, aesthetics, cultures, and spaces inherent to this facet of our community. Pride events occasionally face debate over the inclusion of these elements, yet their very existence underscores their pivotal role in the struggle for LGBTQIA+ rights. Three personalities shed light on their personal journeys and the significance of fetish in their lives. To wrap up this illuminating edition, we present ten distinctive portraits. KET once again turns the spotlight on the very individuals who add vibrancy to Brussels, celebrating the spectrum of colours they bring to our capital. #ketmagazine #brussels #queer
