Dian Bian Hu is a traditional fuchow peppery congee-stew, where rice mixture is blended and cooked at the periphery of the wok while its broth is cooking in the middle. Back here again at @tedlinkopi for my Kaii Sii Hor fun fix. So far this is the only place in Kuching I give a strong pass for their version if Ipoh's KSHF. Prawny sweet savoury broth certainly hits the spot. Although I do find it a bit oily but I do not mind that much, PS 8/10. This time I also tried their mee siam and nasi lemak. Mee siam still lacks spices and the nasi was rather crusty and dry. Both was a 6/10 for me. Curry fish ball reminds me of the pasar malam days and the crispy croissant was rather dense but overall both are okay in that sense. When I say I love unagi, I really do. This large serving called Unagi Sumo Don from @hanaya_kch was very satisfying. Fatty caramelized large slice of unagi sitting on a bowl of japanese rice, below it is a block of tamago which compliments the dish well. Hearty scruptious meal for a satisfying lunch. From a very popular stall from Kuching food fest now @takotako.kch is easily available in 101 food court. Although I still enjoy the various toppings offered for the takoyaki, but I felt the tako balls feels rather hollow and lacks mass. However, it has a crispy chewy couter layer which I really enjoy too. All time Kuching favourite the legendary Green Road kolo mee, Sin Lian Shin Kolo Mee. Still one of the best in town. Althought only operating in a small shop, they currently have 2 stalls running simultaneously. Both original and red kolo mee taste awesome. Not too soggy, not overly salty and just the right amount of lard. Somehow always finding my way back here, although it always seemed full but the turnover rate is rather quick. If you are looking for a food court with variety of food, you can try Sing Garden Cafe at Hui Sing. Was drawned there when I saw a fellow foodie post about the fried fish noodle they had there. Popiah roll there was not bad, just lacking some crunchy texture but overall good. The fried fish mihun was not to my liking as the batter for the fried fish was rather thick and the broth was not as rich as I hope it to be. Kolo mee was alright. Salted bake chicken was no where near to the famous ones back in Ipoh, as it lacks the salty flavouring infused into the meat. The lui cha there is pretty good, I suppose it is a branch if the well known Ho Poh lui cha which uses purple rice base with a good mixture of herbs and vegetables. Parking is a little tight during the peak hours of 9am-10am. Overall 7/10. Will go there again to try out different food. Yoo Tiao or in Cantonese we call Yao Char Kway, fried savoury dough, similar to a doughnut but has a outer crisp and fluffy hollow inside. Had many around Kuching but was not impressed until my friend bought me a bag and she said "try this one". Wahh this is good stuff man! Crispy on the outside, and fluffy chewy insides. Ying Wah Yuen 新樱花园 Satok is a great local kopitam for breakfast where you can get most of the popular local dishes. Today I had my beef kuey teow soup from Ah Mui Stall. Most people will order their beef soup accompanied by kolo mee noodles, but the kuey teow is a great option too. Less oily and not as starchy compared to kolo mee. Of coz this comes down to our own personal preferences. Their beef souo reminds me of Bovril soup which I use to make at home when I am little. Has good mixture of beef meat and tripe which adds to the different texture. And of coz the corriander topping gives an extra burst of aroma to the savoury beefy soup. . Wan Tan Mee in both kon-lou/dry and curry style from Hong Kong Roasted in Best Corner Stutong branch. Such a gem to find the rare wan tan mee in Kuching and this is my favourite spot. The egg noodles has a good springy texture and can also absorb the tasty kicap sauce/curry really well. The roast meat here especially the char siu and roast pork deserves a shout out. Zen Q dessert at premier 101. I used to come here way too often for desserts after dinner. Ice shavings with grass jelly/sago/taro ball/konjac jelly toppings. I usually take the mix of soy bean,grass jelly and matcha ice shaving flavour and top it up with a scoop of ice cream. Comparitively decent to other brands around, but still can't never beat my favourite Snow Flake in KL. But this is a good take as it feels refreshing especially after a meal. . Seemed like the hype for these desserts are dying down. What are your "go to"s when you drop by a mamak stall? Mine is always a good lamb curry, fried bitter gourd, a mix of curry banjir all over my rice and a side of vegetable. Oh and papadam too if available. And if I am feeling extra, I love a piece of roti telur and fish curry. Not forgetting a glass of sirap limau ice. Had mine at Curry House, but it's not as good as the mamaks back in West Malaysia. But I still needed my mamak fix once in a blue moon. Any recomendations from you guys? . If you have not heard of this korean restaurant yet, its none other than @themasitdakuching at RH plaza. Cozy homely korean meals which taste good and comes in affordable prices. I love their grill pork marinate in their sweet marinade, very tender and served good cuts. Oh, I highly highlyyyyy recommend their kimchi pancake. It's the bomb! It has a crunchy crust and delicious kimchi filling. Still perfer my bibimbab in a stone bowl but they dont have it here, but otherwise its decent. Side dishes are refillable. True to its name, it is delicious and definitely would be back here soon to try other things on the menu. . There are around 10 tables there, recommended to call in for a reservations especially on weekends. Apam balik stall opposite 3rd mile market, at the walkway of Magnum Shop. Thin crispy crepe complimented with sweet savory crush peanuts and creamy margerine spread. One is never enough, I'm hooked. If I am not mistaken, they use to be a very popular stall along Green Road area previously. Open almost daily from 2pm onwards until around 5pm when it usually gets sold out. You could see the efficiency of her handling the pans of crepe all while she manages her in coming orders and even delivering some to customers who are waiting in the car. For large order pick up calling first will reduce the waiting time on busy days. . Premium Miyazaki A5 Wagyu dining experience with omakase style only at @wagyudojo. Yes, they are here in Kuching! Their wagyu is air flown from Japan and is also Halal Certified. Just to note, A5 is the highest-quality beef possible rated by the Japanese government. Each slice is introduced individually prior to cooking and we are to highlight the beef parts on the cow diagram. The Miyazaki Wagyu distinguised for it marbling rich cherry color, buttery texture, and dense beefy flavor. Some believe it even has surpass Kobe beef in terms of taste and tenderness hence gaining an award for world recogition. Food is prepared right in front of our eyes, grilled, torched and garnished by the master chefs which really stimulates the appetite in anticipation of the meal. As the meat cooks, the fat begins to melt and dissolve into the meat, giving a heavenly melt-in-your-mouth experience in each bite. Their signature dish where a piece of uni caviar sushi, wrapped in a slice of Ribeye, torched and ganish in gold dust was really impressive. Its flavours and textures were literally dancing in my palate. I really like the way the menu was planned, where we can really appreciated the different textures and consistencies of different parts of the cow which was served to us cooked in variety of styles, combinations and seasonings. My top 3 parts of no particular order is Zabuton, Tri Tip and Rib eye lips. Service was great and all their staff are well versed on their brand's wagyu. Indeed a truely immerseful dining experience for a meat lover like me. Definitely a MUST try! Will definitely come back again. One last thing, remember to snap a picture of the highlighted cow diagram and present it during your next booking. Their chef will gladly prepare different parts during your next encounter for a whole different dining experience again. How amazing is that! Omakase menu package range from RM388 to RM468, there is a child menu for RM218 (recommeded for age 6 to 12yrs), where a few servings with raw fish and fatty meat cuts are excluded. Buffet lunch at Carvery in Hotel Abell @carvery_restaurant. . When I went there, it is was rather quiet, hence the food were cooked in small portions and served hot on arrival to prevent excessive food wastage. We got to try everything on the lunch buffet menu and even top up on which dish we would like for second helpings, no limit. I really enjoyed the lamb leg, seasoning was superb and meat was tender. I also really like the cold platter as our starters. Not forgetting to mention their mushroom soup which was what my husband claims to be the best in Kuching. Hot food there is roast potatoes, lamb pasta, fried rice and mix vegetables. A lot of grill meat choices from grill lamb leg, steak, pineapple, chicken wings, chicken frankfurter, and braised beef ribs. Usually of we do come here is always for their ala carte meal for dinner. This is a good change for special occasion and a great atmostphere to catch up or to have a chill relaxing quiet afternoon. Crystal Kolo Mee (Red and White versions) from Da Niu stall in Chok Kar Chong, Desa Wira. Noodles were decent, their signature char siu and crispy pork lard was the favourite among the orders there. Place clean and spacious, only bad part was the long waiting time, reached there 8.45am, waited 30mins for our noodles. PS 7/10. Another day, another attempt in search of the "most rare hawker food find in Borneo - Ipoh's Kai Sii Horr Fun". So I saw this on their IG page and took a day off to go try it. To my suprise, it's taste was ~almost~ or should I say the closest I had so far to the OG Ipoh ones, but still lacks the umph! Compared to KL counterparts, the ones in KL are still better, I sometimes wonder why too if KL can recreate it, so can Kch rite? As they highlight in the IG, the secret ingredient to be the umami prawn oil, they seriously went crazy and it turned out really really oily as it kinda leaves your lips smothered in oil after taking a slurp. The hor fun texture here can never beat the springy semi- translucent ones we have in Ipoh, I can accept that. But at RM12 a bowl, I think the portion is really small. Would I come back here again? Sure, when my craving kicks in, but I do hope there is improvement with the recipe, less oil please, and more rock sugar in your stock perhaps? Croisant was not as flaky as I hopped it to be but it has a nice outer tosted crunch. Their homemade kaya is not bad. The signature tea is rather mild tasting and "thin" and could hardly taste the tea, maybe because mine was an ice tea, but it shouldn't be that way ain't it. Very clean nice interior deco, misture of traditional and modern style, cozy kopitiam feels.
