This big hollowbody bass was my first full guitar restoration in terms of all the parts and electronics. When I got it all the wires and pots were rusted and corroded and none functioning. This was also my first adventure in how to change and install electronics into a hollowbody instrument without going insane. YouTube was helpful but it was quite a project. I stripped it down to a shell, got a new chrome bridge piece and had to hand file the saddles down. I wired up new pots, caps, input jack, switch, and a set of pickups. The original pickups worked just fine at first and sounded great to my ears, but then one of them just started sounding broken and bad and the bridge pickup had metallic foil peeling off which is apparently really nasty stuff to get cut on or get under your skin, so I took them both out too. After trying a set of Hofner style pickups that were too dull and muddy for me, I settled on this fairly basic set of higher output ceramic humbuckers to try and get more of the high end out of what is a fairly dark/dull sounding bass - especially with the flat wound strings on it. If I was really going full-on with it I could put push-pull pots and coil tap the pickups but I don't think it's warranted here. That and I'm not keen to take all the wiring out to redo it any time soon. Or ever. The only information I could find besides the 'made in Japan' neckplate was by scouring Google images in search of a similar looking bass. The nearest I could find was a brand called 'Leonardo' which was probably just a label they added to the headstock after importing. This thing has quite a bit of thump to it and a pretty distinctive character that isn't exactly useful for everything, but sometimes it's the only thing that can do it. It does that Seven Nation Army thing perfectly if that's your bag, baby.
