Gilbert is seeking volunteers to join the Community Engagement Task Force with a focus on addressing teen violence. The group will consist of 11 residents, with at least four of them being teenagers who attend a high school in Gilbert. The Task Force will learn about existing resources and programs that address teen violence, discover where there are gaps, and present recommendations to the Gilbert Town Council. In accordance with Arizona Revised Statutes §9-499.15, Gilbert will be hosting two upcoming Public Hearings during the regular Town Council meetings on May 7 and June 4 to publicly discuss the proposed fiscal year 2024-2025 tax levy and the resulting secondary property tax rate. Gilbert does not have a primary property tax, which other Arizona municipalities use for funding general operations such as public safety or parks. Instead, Gilbert utilizes income from sales tax to pay for these operations. Gilbert does have a secondary property tax which is used to repay debt incurred by Gilbert’s voter-approved bonds. These bond funds can only be used for the purposes identified in the approved ballot initiatives. The secondary property tax levy and resulting tax rate must be approved by the Gilbert Town Council each year and the Town Council will discuss and consider the approval of this proposed rate on Tuesday, June 4. The proposed levy for fiscal year 2024-2025 is $33,275,000 ($.9800 tax rate per $100 of assessed property). The current (2023-2024) rate is $.9800. I’m so sad to learn the last surviving member of the USS Arizona BB-39 crew has departed. Lou Conter was 102 years old and a retired US Navy Lieutenant Commander. 🇺🇸 82+ years following the attack in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, all 1511 crew members are now reunited.
