HOW TO SURVIVE UNIVERSITY For everyone starting University ✨ * CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS WISELY: Being around positive people can make university life way better than it actually is, try to connect with less dramatic people. Jealous or over competitive people are a big NO. *SPEND YOUR FREE TIME WISELY: Having fun is important but discussing topics and combine studies in the library can always help you score good. *STAY AWAY FROM UNNECESSARY DRAMA: The only drama you should be dealing with is your assignments and nothing else! *SOCIALISE: Interacting with new people helps you a lot, connect with your seniors. This can help you get an idea of your teachers and how things work. SPEND YOUR MONEY WISELY: We all are broke when we enter university, it’s hard to manage lab manuals, printouts, notes. Try making a budget prior. University canteen’s are usually expensive and bringing your own lunch shouldn’t be shameful for you. Be comfortable and don’t over spend just because you’re under social pressure💕 ASK FOR HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT: Don’t feel embarrassed when you’re asking too many questions, ask for help whenever you feel like you need it. So, I took part in a community service (medical outreach/envegelism). It was fun, exciting and elating really. 😊 The joy I had... I consider it a privaledge to be in a preschool of a profession that affects human life directly. Studying pharmacology through flow charts and tables makes it so easy to remember! I find it really hard to remember important details from those lomg paragraphs in textbooks. Yours truly fooling around at almost midnight just to fight sleep. Gave up @2am & rightfully so as I woke 2:30am the previous morning & had not slept a wink since- doing graded assignments & taking strong meds at the same time. Masoumah Taher graduated with the Pharmacy class of 2020. Chatting to Castel this week Masoumah said if she had one piece of advice for future students it is “to enjoy everyday as a Pharmacy student because college life goes too fast” Masoumah worked extremely hard on the International Medical Commencement Programme to achieve her goal to become a Pharmacist. Here is her story👏🏼 “The journey to become a Pharmacist seemed so long for me at the beginning when I started out on the IMCP. However, with ambition, dedication and hard work anything can be achieved in a short space of time. My English improved so fast & I had the knowledge to study all scientific subjects in English. My undergraduate in Pharmacy was very challenging at times but by taking it step by step I was able to accomplish my goals and also enjoy the college life. It is important that International students remember that they are all in the same boat so don’t be so hard on yourselves. 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐫𝐮𝐠 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬- my revised method after 4 years of Pharmacy school 😆 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥!! 🧠 Active recall has been proven to be one the absolute best ways to study and retain information! Amongst many reasons it in essence forces you to remember the information without any hints, enhancing your long-term retention and preparing you for the unexpected. In other words an exam when your mind blanks out! Active recall comes in many forms, in this case I’ve resorted to incorporating questions (covering the answers with another piece of paper to use the sheet like a flash card) as opposed to simply stating “Indication”, “Side effects”- like I would before. 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬!! Colours too have been shown to enhance one’s memorisation of information. Recent studies have shown that colour improves study performance by increasing alertness and neural activity through arousal. The most suitable colors for this are red, orange and yellow. Hence, although I haven’t strictly stuck to only these three colours, I’ve made good use of colour and used red for highlighting the key information. I will keep the colours consistent to ease recognition of key information for different drugs. 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧!! 😌I normally am one to make very very detailed notes and research information from a multitude of sources to ensure I have everything. I don’t want neglect this however for the purposes of helping myself retain information, it’s much more effective to break the large piece of information into smaller, most important parts. Thus, the use of one A4 page summaries of the drugs. I’m currently working on making this pages into a booklet of all the key drugs. Swipe to see my recent addition- Warfarin.
