🧸 Stuffing 🧸 Day 28 | with @airali_gray Without it, we wouldn't have our amigurumi creations in the first place. Hazelnut was created with two strands, and he is huge. The amount of stuffing it took to fill him was too much, so we got creative. Since then, we have kept every thread end and scraps and used them mixed in with stuffing to fill our bears. That way, no thread end gets thrown away and wasted. In a world where you have to be conscious of what you are throwing away, this is a perfect way to limit that. ✨️ Clever detail ✨️ Day 27 | with @airali_gray I think this prompt is all about the individual. What I might consider as a clever detail could be someone just making it and not noticing their craftsmanship and internal thought process. For me, this was obvious when I was told the eye choice (thank you for the eyes @sweetoddityart), with the little pops of white worked really well with the pops of white from Gnocchi's tentacles. So for me, it was just being me at the time, to someone else, it was a clever detail. Have you thought about other clever details from my friends, that I've perhaps overlooked? 🐝3 things about patterns🐝 I love the versatility of patterns. I have a few designer friends, and they have made creatures, and even though they are the same creature, they turned out beautifully different. Patterns come in different sizes, big friends, little friends 🧡 and yarn choices change everything. And that's a great thing. Sometimes, that one *friend aka mine* pattern that you don't think will work turns out amazing! Organised 😅 Day 19 | with @airali_gray I thought I'd hide the fact that in my house there is no such thing as organised. We embrace the chaos, and yet I still manage to produce my friends. I do keep a diary, and it's become somewhat a coaster 🤪 it comes with me everywhere, but its home is on the sofa arm. It allows me to be organised when it's needed. My yarn I'm currently working with is in a tote bag, and I have a four draw system to keep everything away from the almost 2-year-old, but close enough, I can grab it. ✨️ Before and after ✨️ Day 17 | with @airali_gray The process of making something has never really been recorded before, like this, with any of my projects. I think it's because as I grew into my designer boots, I dismissed that these types of shots were of any use to a pattern. That and I don't take on massive minimal sew projects now! This was a custom order, and it was a great learning curve. I was offered a photo, and that was pretty much it. So nervously, I made her up, taking and sending photos in intervals to show the customer my direction. I was happy with my creation in the end, I never recorded how to make her again, though. 🧶3 things about yarn 🧶 Day 11 | with @airali_gray The day I discovered I could do magic with a single hook and a ball of yarn was a momentus day. How do I continue doing this on my budget? I had literally threw myself into an intermediate pattern and was way out of my depth. Yes, I chose budget yarn, itchy, scratchy, tied together yarn balls were in. 🤣 Quantity over quality. I didn't care what it was or anything that was relevant to the yarn and the finished project. This also meant recommended hook and even safety eyes. It didn't matter, I had got the bug. I was a self-taught wizard of amigurumi, and anything goes. Fast forward a few years, and here are my 3 most important ways to choose my yarn for a special project or 500. 1. Can I use VARIEGATED? (the brighter, the better). This could be any yarn of more than one colour. 2. Works well with my 2mm hook! My hands seem to work best 👌 at this size. The bigger the harder it is 😆 Baby hands! 3. And does it come in more than just a few shades. The most annoying part for future makes. 🧸 The most fun part 🧸 Day 10 | with @airali_gray I think it would have to be, seeing my children play with the friends that I make. When I first started out, I did markets, and I loved it. All too quickly, I realised I couldn't compete with prices and the hard c.e testing required to keep the children that play with them safe 👌 So it pained me to stop selling, now I have a surplus of friends that sit waiting for children to play with them. 🤍 All-time favourite 🤍 Day 9 | with @airali_gray I was torn with this prompt. It's hard to pick a favourite, let alone an all-time favourite. So I decided to pick a friend who I've wanted to make, but was scared to, for the longest time. My Arctic Deerfox and his baby were a joy to make. I knew it was time because I settled in over a weekend, expecting to just give it a go, but they worked up well. I just enjoyed every moment of making them without too many hiccups. They are so photogenic, but then I think it's because I love taking photos of them. I love the lore behind deerfoxes, and I was enthralled when I first saw them in Hilda. 🪝 Crochet hooks 🪝 Day 7 | with @airali_gray I think my post says a lot! My hooks with their silicone handles (new ones) are all fancy, but it wasn't always this way. Yes, we all start with the long painful metal ones that burn into your fingers because at the begining your tension was to hold everything really tight so that your palms and fingers were sweaty and your yarn squeezed back at you. *breathe* Tell me I'm wrong? Who still suffers? Honestly, tulip is the way to go, I tried the flat handled grip, but even they just don't cut it unless I'm desperate. When I say desperate, I mean tibby has hidden yet another hook! If you take a moment to swipe across, you will see the same photo, but it's slightly different. 🧵 Fun Stitches🧵 Day 6 | with @airali_gray I have to admit, I use this stitch/technique a lot! Firstly, it's all over my new patterns, Saltlick the Pebble Golem and Poprock the Pebble Pup, which I can say, finally.... are now LIVE! 🥳 So why do I use it, and what exactly am I talking about? Well, it's the loop left over from when you work the Blo/Flo st. It creates a beautiful sharp edge that redirects the direction of your make. It's an outline that can be left or made stronger with a different stitch. Did I mention I use it to connect two closed pieces together? Fun and versatile. Then there's the best bit, adding yarn threads to create a whole new dimension! Well that's why I use it and why I think it's fun! Do you use the leftover loops? 🌸 Nature 🌸 Day 5 | with @airali_gray Now I could have really gone in on this prompt. Almost every friend I have made and those ready to be tested are usually nestled between something green and living. I just can not explain the joy I get from taking photos out in nature. Whether it would be getting soaked in a stream cm's from dipping my elbows for that perfect shot or hanging off a hillside. Endangering myself is normal territory for the shots I take. Sometimes, taking a detour through untouched grounds to settle upon a resting space, quiet with only the birds as company is the perfect shot. This is Poprock the Pebble Pup. He’s out exploring and making friends with the local foliage. This delightful creature is from the brilliant mind of @littleellies_handmade and presented me with a very unique build as I’m away from home and don’t have supplies I’d typically use for amigurumi. I brought a blanket project with me so had to make use of what I had and what I could find! Thankfully my project had several colours, then I found some “spare” buttons and thanks to a random sewing kit… and tissues instead of stuffing… well, here he is! . Oh, I need a holiday! I've taken a step back this last month, I haven't been myself at all. The littlest Ellie hasn't helped my slump either... 🐔 Scramble has friends 🐔 For the longest time, I've had the idea to update my Chicken pattern... to give you more. And, why not? When I made my Rooster 🐓 I never expected people coming to me personally, asking if his version was available. So I pondered a little, then I considered it more, and almost two years later (I'm sorry other friends got in the way), I added him to the pattern. As i was writing him up, getting the photos ready for his own section in the pattern, maybe I should make and add a hen too. 💦 K is for Kelpie 💦 - now closed Have you ever met a Kelpie? They are depicted as beautiful water horses, but these creatures do not play nice. That was what I knew when I stumbled upon an eiry part of the forest. They don't normally travel this far upstream, i thought, so when I saw him, I was nervous. I took a ribbon from my pocket and tied myself to a tree as he noticed me. At all cost, I couldn't let him convince me to mount him. So I didn't look at him, my head down. I felt his breath distort my fringe as I squeezed my eyes shut. For a second, we held silence until I felt a thud around my feet. I quickly opened my eyes, and before me, this Kelpie was shaking. He was hurt. He had come this far up the stream out of his own fear. I knelt down and touched his head. He could trick me for sure, but I knew in my heart I couldn't leave him. That's how I met Kale. What started off as a friendship based on fear and prejudice turned into a beautiful companionship. He comes to see me from time to time, and I swear he brings all his magic with him. Oh I'm so excited to show you this make. Isn't he fantastic, I feel like he was made just for me to take nature photography with him. He was made for my style, and I must thank @schrahki for allowing me to make one of her precious birbs 🐦🐥🐦⬛ The test was so rewarding, so I think I could be her tester forever 😁 He is now safely at my dad's house and he has requested more so he's not alone! Can you show me to your secret garden? Today, we had a beautiful day of sunshine (still ruddy cold, though 😂), and we decided to see how much of the woodland around our home had grown. It has become somewhat of a Sunday walk for Sofia and myself. I do seem to have test pictures to do, too, but we love nothing more than to put on our wellies and wade through the stream, hoping to find a path we haven't explored before. Most of it is still bog land because of the storms we had at the end of last year. We noticed since the last time that all the trees had started waking up, so that meant the fairies had successfully started the year off, and everything was saying hello like we had never met before. The birds were greeting us, and for that hour, it was like we had stumbled upon a secret garden. Finally, the wild garlic was growing again. My daughter has just turned 9, and her world is so magical ✨️ She loves my trolls like they were family her tiny mind had created just for her. That makes me so happy. She wanted unicorns, and so Meringue was born. As much as that is true 😅 I share with you every time I place a friend in my hands, my most treasured bracelet. I've had it for the longest time. It's never come off, and I always get asked about it. Burdock the Arctic Deerfox and little Twiglett are now Live - 🥳 We had so much fun making these friends, and I just knew they would kick start my year of fantasy friends well. I've dabbled with fantasy friends before, but never have I fallen so in love with the mythology behind these creatures. We all seek guidance sometimes, and for me, Deerfoxes just summarises my personality completely. I'm cautiously curious about everything I do. I'm always nervous to approach new things but fall madly in love with the process once I get started. I'm continuing this year like the ones before it, dedicated to making the cutest friends for everyone to love and make. If you go down into the woods today.... not quite what you would expect, right? After another storm hit our area, I was sure there was going to be nothing left of my nature walk. Thankfully, after the obstacle course of fallen trees, we found a friend in the water. Maisie the Kraken from the book Unicorns, Dragons and more fantasy amigurumi by @amigurumidotcom is a beautiful friend that will not drag you into the deep. Perhaps tickle you into submission but otherwise extremely friendly.
