Last Sunday, Andy traveled up to Pittston, PA for his third annual Lu Lacka Wyco Hundo. After conquering the full hundred miles and 9,500+ ft of climbing in 2023, he opted for the slightly less brutal metric century this year, but still enjoyed nine major climbs with 5,400 ft of elevation gain. Beautiful views, ripping descents, and countless friends always make this event one to look forward to each Spring, and this year was no different! Sundays Lu Lacka Wyco hundo didn’t disappoint. The taco stop at mile 73ish as always was like heaven. Hard to believe this was the 4th time I’ve done this ridiculous 101 mile ride. And this version was the hardest. The most elevation. I cramped for about the last 40 miles. But I finished it #llwh24

@lulackawyco kicked my butt today … . 100 miles and 9000ft of climbing in @surlyrider backyard was incredible as always. According to my @garmincycling, the route had 23 climbs and they were all super steep. My legs were not used to all the climbing and I was gassed. At the top of some was a downhill, others tacos and some had fries! I loved seeing all my friends out on course today! Thanks to the volunteers and @brianbiggs! As always, my @44bikes was incredibly comfortable and confident in all terrain, the @routewerks secured my camera, snacks and gear, and @wildernesstrailbikes kept me on the ground! The @varlo_apparel gravel kit was comfortable all day too! Unfortunately our underground mining history comes topside once in a while. This time it’ll impact the route of the course. With two weeks to go, I can’t imagine that what has been reported as a 60 foot deep hole will be filled and ready to go so we will pull some rabbits out of our hats to make a course that unfortunately misses the BMT this year. We feel horrible for local citizens and fellow small businesses that will be impacted by this development. There are also environmental impacts, as it has been reported that the creek is spilling into the mine subsidence and the creek has run dry below this location. #llwh24

I try not to share too much of the nitty gritty behind the scenes because this is about riding and having fun, but I feel like there is something I need to address. In December, I went to drop off some equipment to the LLWH storage locker. I found that it had different locks on it and my heart dropped. I always thought having most of my business protected by only two pieces of steel was risky and I thought I lost everything. I had a restless night while waiting to talk to my storage locker management the next day. Due to some changes in ownership and a lack of bookkeeping they took everything from my unit. Luckily it wasn't one of those "reality" shows and my stuff was stored in a different location. I surveyed my gear and saw most of the big items like tents, coolers, tables, etc were there. Some stuff wasn't but the management told me it was stuff they thought was no good. I was happy to have most of my stuff and I did not have to rely on others to fill in the gaps, although @unpavedpennsylvania @pamtbrace and others reassured me I had nothing to worry about. Now with a closer look at my gear, I am missing some signifiant things that need to be replaced to run the event. This of course takes a chunk out of the budget that was not planned for. One of the sentimental and important things that has gone missing is all of our back stock of these medals. We have given these away for all but two of our years. I am going to do my best to make sure you walk away with something tangible this year no matter what curveballs come our way. It just likely will not be this iconic design. Now back to the pretty pictures of bikes and their riders. #llwh24

The 75 mile option of the Lu Lacka Wyco Hundo is likely where you want to be. This route gets almost all the gravel of the 100 mile route, the taco stop, all of the support, and a big chunk of the end of the ride comes with a long downhill that will put a smile on your face. The 75 is my favorite route and how I would choose to spend my day. The next 20 folks who register for the 75 will find a pretty sweet entry fee that needs no code or secret handshake. #llwh24

We just shared how rad all of you are at a meeting of fellow small business owners with the folks of @downtownpittston They all got a sweet water bottle from @trekbikes Keep an eye out here and in out emails about the specials the business will have for ride weekend.
