Not very appealing picture, but I am making a headcap for a headcapless Volks Ryo head! Swipe for more pics of the process and the head! It looks so bumpy right now but I plan on sanding it with the Dremmel to improve the surface. After finishing the headcap, I want to give the head some new faceup (the one it has now is not the original by Volks one so I decided to remove it and make a more detailed one). Wasnโt happy with the wig I made for kid Vahn so I decided to try cutting a synthetic one Iโd picked up for $5 at the last doll show. I like it much better, but he desperately needs me to put the spiking gel in it because right now itโs giving Karen ๐คฃ Doll wigs never trim perfectly because you canโt prevent the wefts from looking tiered, but I think it will disguise well once itโs a bit spikier in back. First two are trimmed, second two are how it came. Iโve never tried to cut a wig before so it was interesting. I realized I never posted this info - Tahl is a sculpt that works well on bodies from 60cm to 65cm. His face is a similar size to Iplehouse SID guys, but the simple adapter cup I made lets him be used on much smaller necks, too. He wears a 7-8โ wig (7.75โ to be precise) and is made for 12mm eyes. Oval eyes work best for him, but small iris 14mm are also a great choice. There will not be a preorder for this sculpt. Instead, once my shop is open, he will be available a la carte in three colors: white, light, and tan skin tones. I made Tahl's head with a rounded cup piece in the neck. The rounder the meeting joint of the neck/head, the wider the range of motion, and doing it this way lets him tilt his head really far both up and down. I'm happy with how it came out! As a side effect, it also means his head can be used on different sizes of neck. . The Doll Legend 61cm body I have him on here has a rather slender 9.5cm neck, which I find gives him suitable proportions for his age--in the books, Tahl is in his late teens. But if the cup piece is removed, he can fit the much thicker 12cm neck on my Iplehouse SID guys. Tahl and his clone. Can you tell which is which? . I accidentally went a month without posting anything, since I got sick in the second half of December. I feel generally better now, just a hanging sense of anxiety while I await my next doctorโs appointment and see what the cardiologist has to say about the first tests. ๐ My original appointment had to be postponed due to me being sick, so now I go in on my birthday, and hopefully the gift Iโll get will be favorable newsโฆ . Anyway, these are the original master for Tahl, and a secondary master made from a resin cast pulled from the original mold. Since Iโll be using a more finicky type of silicone for the new mold, avoiding a 3D printed master is best until I have more experience working with it. Theyโre pretty close to identical, aside from the cast master having a little roughness on the top, which will be covered by the headcap anyway soโฆ no big deal, I guess? Sanding and priming the new master was basically starting over from scratch for casting prep, but I think heโs about ready for molds now.
