Little Update on the @jeep_at Grand Cherokee ZJ V8 Projekt. It's been a while since the last post and so there happend something. I m realy happy to say he is running again after 5years. I got some new Spark plugs and also a new fuel pump. Also i cleaned the fuel tank cause there was lots of dirt in it, what i think also killed the last fuel pump. After getting it running i got some new parts like the driver side headlight, the complete steering linkage and also stabilizer rubber and brakes. The parts will be assembled soon. I hope there's nothing hiding from me to fix. Took the long way home today. During the 113-year history of the Indy 500, Dodge has "led the peloton" four occasions: 1954, 1971, 1991 and 1996. And the last two were Vipers. In the 1991, the pre-production Dodge Viper RT/10 was driven by Carroll Shelby at the start and Don Bailey during emergency situations. And in '96, the Dodge Viper GTS was the 1996 pace car. Bob Lutz, CEO of Chrysler Corporation, opened the race at the wheel, and in emergency situations, the same Don Bailey commanded the Viper. But the Viper had a partner. I met him in San Francisco. The Dodge Ram Indy 500 Pace Truck Edition, like the Viper, was painted Brilliant Blue Pearl with two wide Quartz White stripes running from the front bumper to the rear. In addition to the colour, both the Viper and Ram had the company's name emblazoned on their foreheads and a reminder on the door that they were the official pace car/truck of the Indianapolis 500 race. The pickup also got the body cover and the original 17-inch wheels shod with Goodyear Eagle GT II racing tyres. Technically it was a standard frame with a short cab and short body. Drive was only to the rear wheels. Under the bonnet was a 5.9 litre MAGNUM V8 engine mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. A sports exhaust system and minor modifications increased the power by 15 bhp. The sports suspension kept the pickup a little closer to the ground. And the Laramie SLT package added air conditioning, electric windows and door locks, cruise control and an adjustable steering wheel. A total of 2,802 of the Pace Trucks were built. The hero of the article has been parked here for a long time. And in general, I have retained all the details typical of the special Indy 500 version. It's true that the paint is peeling and the lower part of the body on the driver's side is dented. While out for a #NewYearsDay walk with the dog and a kid, we saw this 1970 #DodgeCoronet #convertible, which purports to be a top-of-the-line #Coronet500 model with the 383 (6.3(!)) liter #MagnumV8. This was Dodge’s midsize car in the mid-60s to early 70s, and it’s pretty much at the end of the era that began after WWII in which American car companies had small/compact, midsize/intermediate and full-size models, each of which had a dozen or more different body styles, trim levels and engines. For instance, Coronets of this era were available with everything from #Mopar’s near-bulletproof #Slant6 economy engine to a 440 Inch (7.2(!!!) liter V8, which was bigger than #chrysler’s renowned #hemi V8, which was also available. I’ll skip the details of these engines to get to the bigger point - these Coronets came from mild to wild, with three different two-door body styles, a four door sedan, a four-door station wagon and a #droptop like this one. A #Coronet could be anything from a fuel-efficient traveling salesperson’s car to a carpool wagon to a tire-tearing high-powered muscle car. In the late 1960s, before Japanese car companies really took hold here, car companies were only just beginning to target different demographics with different models (Ford and GM has already starting to change approaches with the mid-to-late 1960s rollout of Pony Cars like the Mustang and Camaro.)
