Got her raised up to what I hope will be the final ride height. Even managed to get it out of the driveway for a quick drive around the block. So far, it drives very well and the ride is amazing. I had planned on taking it to the alignment shop today to get it squared up. Instead though, I think I may wait until everything settles and the springs break in. I'm positive I will be adjusting the ride height and spring preload again between now and then. Dampers are set at 5 clicks from full soft, front coilovers have been raised about 20mm, the rear shocks have been adjusted to their full length to better use the bump stops and prevent tire-sheet metal conflicts, and the rear coil seats have been raised about 15mm to set the rear ride height. These numbers are all compared to how my coilovers came out of the box. Called it quits at about 3 this morning. But it's basically done. Just need to round up some different hex bits to tighten the front upper coilover mounts and then I actually need to raise the car about an inch. While it looks killer where it is, it's too low. The rear tires rub the fenders with just one person in the car. And I'm not getting into fender rolling and shit. I want an unmolested car that drives nice...if I have to go up an inch to get it, that's perfectly fine. My tires somehow showed up at work in the middle of the night last night. 185/55R15 Kumho Ecsta PA31s. These are rated an Ultra High Performance (UHP) tire...and from what I've seen already, they don't disappoint. 😈 Today I went and had them mounted and balanced. And of course I threw them on the car so @5th_advising and I could take er for a rip this evening. It drives soooo much better than with the old tires and wheels. It's really amazing what putting proper OEM sized tires on it did for the driving experience. And these HOOK compared to the 195/60s that were on here! I can't wait to see the improvements with a lower CG, better damping, better spring rates, and the typical small economy car bobbing and bouncing eliminated. Saturday evening I'll be installing my coilovers with the hopes that I can get it in for an alignment at the beginning of this coming week. Coilovers fully assembled and ready with all brand new OEM GM front strut mounts, rear shock mount bushings and hardware throughout. Also pictured is my replacement OEM PCV hoses and thermostat. The goal with assembling the coilovers with all new OEM stuff is, I hope that the install will be a simple R&R type deal. And obviously, it will all be brand new. While the car only has 64k on it, it's 11 years old and spent 6 years sitting in an impound yard of some sort...the car is super clean, but all the rubber suspension bits have paid the price. Next week...tires and new OEM TPMS sensors. And then it's install time! My new wheels showed up yesterday. @rotawheelsusa GT3s in silver with machined lips. 15x7s with a 40mm offset. I was a bit worried they wouldn't clear my calipers when I bought them, but I knew a 3 or 4mm spacer would easily correct any interference issues. Luckily, it doesn't look like any spacers will be required. It's close but they fit with about 1.5mm to spare. 🥵 Unfortunately though, it doesn't look like even a 195/50R15 tire is going to fit. It appears as though the inside sidewalls will end up contacting the body/spring perch of my coilovers. 😔 I guess I'll have to stick to the stock 185/55R15 size with a little bit of stretch on these 7" wide wheels. Oh well, I don't mind a bit of stretch. On another note, my @meganracing coilovers also showed up yesterday. While I didn't get any pics of them, they look to be of decent quality. The instructions are lacking heavily though, which makes it easy to see why so many guys have put them together incorrectly. Considering roughing together an install video to clear up any confusion. Sadly, the M300 Spark platform never was very desirable. I'm not sure a video would really help anybody at this point. I haven't driven the Spark much in the time I've owned it due to some suspension issues and tires that are far too large. The problem is, it costs almost as much as a set of coilovers to rebuild the strut assemblies with OEM parts. Because this car makes me giggle every time I drive it, I think it may just be time to make it mine anyway. So, coilovers and fresh wheels and tires it is. Nothing super special. It is just a Spark after all. 🤣 I'm not trying to build a track car here. Just a clean, reliable and comfortable weekend cruiser. While some will call my choices cheap, there isn't much that looks better or weighs less than the @rotawheelsusa in this size...13.6lbs/wheel will really help out my 84 horsepower 2300lb car. And mild improvements should also be felt in the suspension, brakes and steering...less unsprung and rotating mass. And the @meganracing coilovers are supposed to be some of the best riding. BC Racing also makes coilovers for this application but they are known to ride a bit choppy...and I'm not spending $1300 on them. -Rota GT3s in a 15x7, 4x100 pattern, ET40 -Megan Racing EZ Street coilovers -195/50R15s that I haven't chosen yet And the black/machined wheels that are currently on the Spark will go on the girlfriend's black 2015 Rio to spice up her daily a bit.
