Originating from Notsie, the inhabitants of the Volta region ingeniously escaped the oppressive rule of King Agorkorli. They weakened the walls of their confinement by continuously applying water from their household chores, eventually facilitating their escape. In a strategic move to mislead the king and elders, those fleeing executed their march backwards, creating the illusion that they were approaching Notsie rather than escaping from it. The Misego or Husago dance, predominantly performed by women, particularly young ones, today serves to reenact this historical event. Her costume features handwoven Ewe Kete fabric from Agotime Kpetoe in the Volta region. The headpiece, known as the Kevi, symbolises the method by which the ancestors carried their possessions, balanced atop their heads. Additionally, the staff symbolises the support given to the elderly women who spearheaded the march. The Misego or Husago dance is used to reenact these events, mainly performed by ladies, especially young women. Miss Ghana’s national costume honors the story of the Ewe people’s migration. Originating from Notsie, the inhabitants of the Volta region ingeniously escaped the oppressive rule of King Agorkorli. They weakened the walls of their confinement by continuously applying water from their household chores, eventually facilitating their escape. In a strategic move to mislead the king and elders, those fleeing executed their march backwards, creating the illusion that they were approaching Notsie rather than escaping from it. The Misego or Husago dance, predominantly performed by women, particularly young ones, today serves to reenact this historical event. Her costume features handwoven Ewe Kete fabric from Agotime Kpetoe in the Volta region. The headpiece, known as the Kevi, symbolises the method by which the ancestors carried their possessions, balanced atop their heads. Additionally, the staff symbolises the support given to the elderly women who spearheaded the march.
