Let’s talk about something awkward, rounded bolts. You have those days where in you’re feeling motivated to work on your bike, you wanna save the time of your chosen mechanic and you start doing a bolt check and there’s this one bolt you’re about to tighten it and it slips….. You probably start thinking, do I leave it or do I give it another shot? You give it another shot and you completely round out your bolt and you shit yourself. This bolt here belongs to my 2006 Giant Reign 3 which I sadly don’t have anymore. I keep it until today to remind myself of that awkward moment. Let’s talk about why you should invest in quality tools. Most of the tools we have most probably are from the hardware store, from a complete kit, or probably a freebie from an item you purchased. The problem with these tools, and I’m no engineer btw just by simply observing the shitty tools I use to buy, these tools were designed not with a mountain biker in mind. Some tools were designed for simple fixes, some tools were designed for a specific item, some tools have a specific torque ratio to handle only. I chose to invest in the @weratoolrebels hex and torx sets. I’ve been using the hex set for about a year already and the torx for a month now and they are bomb proof. Every time I use the tool whether it be Hex or Torx, I’m confident that these will fit accurately and will not slip. Do they bend? Of course with the right force you’ll really bend it but they will definitely outlast any freebie or the ones from a hardware store. Things to be aware of when sizing fork bushings. This fork has misalignment. The bushings have already been sized and have a 0.12mm clearance. With my adjustable hub spacing tool we are able to see at what hub width the lowers become free. The amount is 110.5mm quite considerable considering 110mm is standard. The way to fix this is to shim the hub. Not opening up the bush clearance anymore.
