🚨 Two Drug Kingpins Receive Life Sentences for Cocaine Trafficking 🚨 Uwaezuoke Christian and Agbo Prince have been sentenced to life in prison by the Federal High Court in Abuja for their extensive involvement in exporting cocaine across continents. Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), revealed this in a statement on Sunday. Uwaezuoke was first apprehended in 2022 for swallowing cocaine wraps and was caught again while attempting to smuggle drugs to India. Meanwhile, Agbo was detained at the Abuja airport for trying to export cocaine to Hong Kong. According to Babafemi, Uwaezuoke's troubles began in March 2022 when NDLEA operatives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, discovered that he had ingested 100 large wraps of cocaine weighing 2.243 kilograms. Despite being granted bail after pleading not guilty, he fled, prompting the court to revoke his bail and issue an arrest warrant. Four women arraigned for alleged obstruction of justice and attack on EFCC officials in Kaduna The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has arraigned four suspects before Justice A.A Bello of the Kaduna State High Court, Kaduna. The commission in a statement on Saturday, April 27, 2024, said the suspects were docked on Wednesday, for alleged obstruction of lawful duty and assault against officers of the Commission. The suspects; Rukayya Ahmed Mustapha, Sadiya Usman Mohammed, Ameera Uthman and Nafisat Usman, were arraigned on one-count separate charges bordering on obstruction of lawful duty. The one-count charge against Sadiya Usman Mohammed reads: “ That you, Sadiya Usman Mohammed on or about the 15th April 2024 at Kaduna, within the jurisdiction of the Kaduna State High Court willfully obstruct officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) while carrying out an official assignment (effecting a lawful arrest at No. 13 Jafar Organizer Street, Rigachukun, Kaduna) and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 38(2)(a) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004 and punishable under Section 38(2)(b) of the same Act.” All four suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them, prompting prosecution counsel, K.S Ogunlade to pray for a trial date to bring the witnesses to court. He also sought the remand of the defendants in Kaduna Correctional Centre. Justice Bello, after listening to all counsels, remanded three of the suspects at the Kaduna Correctional Centre while Sadiya Usman Mohammed, who was a nursing mother was remanded in EFCC custody. He adjourned the case to May 2, 2024, for a hearing of their bail applications. The suspects were arrested for obstructing officers of the Kaduna Command of the EFCC while making efforts to arrest one Hadiza Usman, who had jumped bail severally and avoided being served her charges for arraignment. #ndlea #efcc #crime

Director, Media & Advocacy of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, who announced this in a statement on Sunday, April 28, 2024, said the sentences bring an end to their years of criminal enterprise of exporting cocaine across continents following their arrest and diligent prosecution by the anti-narcotics agency. According to the statement, 43-year-old businessman Uwaezuoke’s journey to a lifetime in jail began when he was first arrested by NDLEA operatives on 19th March 2022 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja during the inward clearance of Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia after he was found to have ingested 100 big wraps of cocaine weighing 2.243 kilograms. He was subsequently arraigned at the Federal High Court, Abuja Division in charge number FHC/ABJ/CR/438/2022 and was granted bail on certain conditions after he pleaded not guilty. He thereafter absconded, leading the court to revoke his bail and issue an arrest warrant against him. In a curious twist, Uwaezuoke was again arrested by NDLEA operatives on 1st August 2023, at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos while attempting to export 1.822 kilograms of cocaine to India through ingestion using a different passport and under a different name, Ilonzeh Kingsley Onyebuchi. He was again arraigned before Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court, Lagos Division in charge number FHC/L/554C/2023. He pleaded guilty to the two counts charge and was convicted and sentenced on 18th October 2023 to a total term of seven years of imprisonment or a fine of ₦1, 500,000.00. He paid the fine and was transferred to Abuja to face the importation case pending against him. #ndlea #drugs

NDLEA Makes Historic Heroin Bust: 3 Top Cartel Members Arrested Following a two-month hunt, NDLEA operatives have apprehended three key members of an organized criminal network specializing in drug trafficking across multiple continents. This significant breakthrough comes in the wake of the largest heroin seizure at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. According to Femi Babafemi, spokesperson for the agency, a total of 51.90 kilograms of heroin were recovered during the operation, which commenced on February 10, 2024, at the SAHCO Import Shed of the airport's Cargo terminal. The heroin, concealed within 15 cartons of 2300-watt metal cutting machines, included 45 blocks weighing 49.70kg, with an additional 2.2kg seized at the syndicate's warehouse in Ayobo, Lagos. Furthermore, the NDLEA has obtained interim forfeiture court orders on assets including hotels, mansions, vehicles, and funds linked to four arrested syndicate members. Recent arrests include Onyinyechi Irene Igbokwuputa and Frankline Uzochukwu in Lagos and Awka, Anambra state, respectively, on April 19th. This is even as NDLEA officers in collaboration with men of the Nigerian Navy Ship Lugard base, Lokoja intercepted 37-year-old Aliyu Lawal along Lokoja-Abuja road on Monday 8th April and recovered 620 blocks of cannabis weighing 310kg from him, while 10 sacks of the same psychoactive substance weighing 98kg were seized along Okene-Lokoja-Abuja express way by NDLEA operatives from Jama Obodo, 44, in a commercial bus coming from Ilesha, Osun state enroute Taraba state on Wednesday 10th April. In Cross River state, a 40-year-old widow and mother of two, Mrs. Theodora Ita was on Monday 8th April arrested at Bassey Edom, Calabar, by NDLEA operatives for producing and selling a lethal new psychoactive substance, NPS, locally called ‘Combine’, which is a mixture of different strains of cannabis and opioids soaked in raw gin. As at the time of her arrest, 18 litres of the dangerous substance in used paint drums were recovered from her. In her statement, she claimed she started the illicit drug production and distribution in October 2023. Another suspect, Godwin Okon Samuel, 48, was apprehended at Essit Ebum area of Calabar with 39.4kg of cannabis sativa on Tuesday 9th April. While two suspects: Sani Mohammed, 43, and Christopher Eze, 64, were arrested in Sabon Gari area of Kano on Tuesday 9th April with 900,000 pills of opioid recovered from them, NDLEA operatives on patrol along Owerri-Onitsha road, Imo state on Friday 12th April intercepted a logistics truck with registration number JGB 403XB and recovered 230 blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 119kg hidden @ndlea #ndlea #drugs
Substance abuse must be understood as a social, spiritual, and health problem. This, therefore, provides an opportunity for all those involved in the campaign against this nagging challenge to re-orientate their energies towards reducing drug abuse to its barest minimum in society. Religious bodies are central pillars in the promotion of the fundamentals that provide a firm foundation upon which drug abuse is dealt with in the society, which is why when the EYN Church in Abuja invited me for the second year running touraine the youth on drug abuse prevention, I gladly obliged. I'm no more surprised by the number of young people who reach out to me after programs like this, seeking help for their struggles with substance use and other forms of addiction. The truth of the matter is that in our places of worship today, there are people struggling with substance use disorder, albeit quietly. The reality is that in the confines of any religious organisation, someone is suffering in silence, enslaved to some addictive substance or behaviour. I was in this boat. A church boy who struggled with addiction for several years. Accepting this reality becomes imperative for our church leaders so as to enable religious organisations to take a stand in the fight against substance abuse and addiction. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said it has intercepted 2,144 parcels of Colorado, a synthetic strain of hemp weighing 1,072kg at the Tincan Seaport Lagos. Femi Babafemi, director of media and advocacy, NDLEA, on Sunday in Abuja, said that NDLEA operatives seized the consignment on Wednesday, April 3. Babafemi said that the seizure was made during a joint examination with the Customs Service and other stakeholders at the Port.
