Lake Placid surely did not disappoint! Grady got 2 top 10s in the NAC and brought home his first gold in the Pan American Championships! He has definitely taken huge strides from where he started this season and I think a few more people know his name. He has been dedicated all season to improving and has taken any opportunity to learn from those willing to teach him. As a parent, I could not be more proud! He has a couple more opportunities to slide this season as he gets to forerun the World Cup in a week or so. Though he will not be a competitor (yet š), itās a chance to takes runs with the best in the world. Then he will participate in another round of selection races to close the season out. First ālegitā competition in the books! I had a blast out here in Park City these few weeks! I competed in the North American Circuit(NAC) for the first time as a real competitor and came home with 2 solid top ten finishes. I canāt thank my guys @hollywood__jet and @radik_logan enough for the hard work and grittiness to get in the sled with me day in and day out. Day 2 at Utah Olympic Park in Park City starts in about an hour! Yesterday, G and Brandon had 2 clean runs that landed that rookie sled in 8th at their first NAC as a team! Pretty good runs! Well, Grady got to compete in his first ever bobsled race for Team USA as a development pilot. The first NAC (North American Cup) is being held in Lake Placid this week. They had official training for 3 days where the teams had to have 2 successful runs to qualify. Grady and the other development pilot both qualified so they had them split race days. Today was Gradyās day and though heās not full on pushing yet, he completed both runs with all blades on the ice, finishing 8th out of 10. This kid just amazes me sometimes. The God-given talent he has is what got him this opportunity but his tremendous work ethic is what will maintain it. #usab #mtvanhoevenberg #oklahomabobsledder
Week 3 brought Media Day and finally ice time! He was able to take his first run from the top today and kept all 4 blades on the ice. Lots of hard work still to do but I think heās having a BLAST! #usabs #oklahomabobsledder
Week two is in the books! They have been in a bit of a stall pattern in Lake Placid as they work to get the ice perfect on the track but they are expected to start sliding Monday! This week has been about sled work, push work, and workouts. I think thereās been some basketball and ping pong in the down time as well. G received his first two care packages with a few necessities as well as some beef jerky and Halloween cookies to snack on.
