After a month of various things and happenings, Jetta returns to her mech, which like any other machine will need maintenance. Jetta's robot may be powered by a squid's ghost and armed with magical weaponry, but it is still a machine with pumps, servos, and fluids. Outfit August 2023 31: Marimo (Splatoon: Team HighColor) Rounding out the month with Marimo in the wizard outfit. I altered it a bit from the last time I drew her in 2020, with her Splatoon 3 hairstyle and changed the dress to have a décolletage opening on the neckline. I included the original spread when I did Splatfest outfits back then, and its interesting to see the changes since then. I want to get back to finishing all of the splat 2 fests at some point and maybe doing 3 later down the line. In any case, the enchanted set is one of my favorites, with the sparkly sequins on one side and the magenta inner lining. I added a few details like a cold-shoulder opening, the brooch, and the necklines. The boots are a little different too. Its nice to finish another project pretty consistently and Ive dropped back to streaming once a week for just spooky games and wont have new art til about October. Its nice to do some nice halloween outfits all together, and next year I might do swimwear. Outfit August 2023 30: Tenori (Splatoon: Team HighColor) Last 2 of the month are splatoon related of course but I dont draw my other squids nearly enough so here’s Marimo’s bf Tenori. I finished these on stream last night and it was really fun. I love the kyonshi hat from Splat2’s splatoween event (I also love the lil devil horns too. They gave your character pretty little gemstone make up on their cheeks). @transistor_rhythm_909 suggested pairing the kyonshi hat with the panda top and it looks really cute together. He has the newer hairstyle and the hat looks nicer with the lower ponytail. His glasses probably should have been colored in a different color but black frames seem more like Tenori than any other color. After saving an orchestral group's convoy from destruction, Jetta and her friends were invited as guests of honor to their next performance. They have never gone to an orchestral concert before and not wanting to look like street urchins, they head straight to the thrift shops to find the cheapest, fancy clothes they can afford. Jetta finds a rather form fitting cocktail dress that's within her budget, and manages to get a fake pearl necklace and some "aged" bracelets at a steal. Outfit August 2023 29: Hana (Welcome to Cafe Black MoonStar) Hana is a new OC from a new girls love story Im working on. Shes a fresh-faced new arrival to earth, who gets caught up in a battle between invaders and magical girls and meets a sweet cafe owner and falls in love. In JuEYE this year I drew her rival Violet Heart on the 8th. Hana has a giant henshin because of course she does as I am a huge Ultraman fan XD. Her “ultra form” has a spring dango color theme and look so I hope to finalize that soon. I went with a dress that has batshaped wings for sleeves and a low cut plunging neckline with the same sheer fabric as the sleeves. Just a bat shaped hairclip, a warmer orange and leg beads complete the look. Its a dreamy, cute style that suits her very well. Noirnolite has a rich history, most of which may be considered controversial, but one aspect of Noirnolite is its connection with voodoo magic. Upon Jetta finding out more of this voodoo, she figures she can make some money by hamming up a necromancer act with her ghost squid. Outfit August 2023 28: Djura Gemini (Threads of Yuugen Genesis) I came up with Djura as a smartly dressed plague doctor, and since it was a character associated with death, Hideki as a ghost made sense. But I wanted to do another suit and a cool leather mask was my aim. Mostly in blacks and wine colors, its a very Djura outfit. Another pair set but probably more subtle than others Ive done like the Winchester twins or Bass and Treble, but I suppose thats more indicative of their relationship. Djura has a more stylish look to him and wears a lot of suits, compared to Hideki who’s more casual; its a similar pair vibe to Bass and Treble I guess XD. And its another pair that have red and blue as their image colors so thats one thing too XD. Djura’s coat was based actually on a woman’s cut but it suits him rather well anyhow. I think i put the buttons on the correct side anyhow. Outfit August 2023 27: Hideki Uzuki (Threads of Yuugen Genesis) One of my boys from the pre/sequel series, my lil cinnamonroll Hideki. His origin story outfit had a poncho and I always thought he looked good in one. Plus its got plenty of room to hide snacks in XD. I saw a mimikyu cosplay cape that was so cute I adapted it a lil to be a more generic ghost (changed the color, no spiky black underlayer, etc). The strap through the eyes reminds me of the piercing maidens from Fatal Frame 3 that had ropes passed through their empty eye sockets so I guess its also somewhat morbid, but in a cute way. XD;; I gave him orange chucks because of course I did, and the recursive ghost decal on the shirt you normally wont see is my fave detail XD A ghost under a ghost. Outfit August 2023 26: Iris (Threads of Yuugen) Iris rounds out the main series for Yuugen and I wanted a cute simple dress for her. I found a dress that had an interesting simple pleat in the middle so I tried to replicate that. The house pattern on the bottom of the skirt is really cute. I definitely leaned more on orange colors for the end because it fuels my autumn feelings. Her shoes got a little fall-ification XD but normally they’re white and pink. I struggle with her hair because I haven’t quite decided how it works so if it seems different, then that’s why. The long and short layers are cool though and since its a fantasy, I can get away with a lot XD. Niro uses my favorite shade of blue and I use one of my favorite shade of pink for Iris. Outfit August 2023 25: Renzo (Threads of Yuugen) Gotta do a cool outfit for my winter crown prince. Rather than a cool kinda style, I went in a slightly different direction with Renzo, a little more dapper and cleancut. Im a sucker for cool suspenders so I did that and they look pretty cool with the vest. Theyre a more subtle, earthier color scheme than the more vibrant violet and orange from Niro’s look. I probably should have changed the default shoes with a little more autumn colors but its not a deal breaker (though Niro and Iris and even Hideki will have halloween-ified shoes so I dunno what I was thinking XD). Outfit August 2023 24: Niro (Threads of Yuugen) My Yuugen batch is ready to go, with 3 of 5 main characters in the main series and the 2 mains from the prequel/sequel. Confusing I know. Its totally easy to keep track of parallel concurring series 😅. Niro was done for his OA back in 2019, so not much has changed. Redrawing it was a lil challenging but Im happy with it. The orange and blue playing off together is quite satisfying. Niro is fun to draw since his hair is so long XD I thought I had grown out of my long haired bishie phase but I guess you never completely do XD. "Outfit of the day", more like what Jetta wears all the time. She is not one to really show herself off and usually keeps to herself. This reservedness led to a lonely youth with her spending most of her time locked away in her room with little social interaction. It was only when she discovered an abandoned battle mech, at which point her life got flipped, turned up-side-down; getting the attention of the Nova Wave City authorities who thought it would be in their best interest that average citizens don't have access to towering "vehicles of w a r." Being sent to live with her uncles in Noirnolite, Jetta ends up making a new life out of her unusual circumstance. Outfit August 2023 23: Yuna Ito (Creepy & Crawly: West Branch) Yuna is from my friend’s @transistor_rhythm_909 Barnbellows Estate project but she has a guest starring role in a C&C spin-off. I needed to swap out a character and Yuna worked perfectly to swap in. I used to draw her a lot years ago, so it was a kind of homecoming. I had to bump the saturation and temp of the image to get close to the original image (last slide) but it was nice to revisit the outfit after so many years. I used to draw Decon’s characters for his birthday, which coincides with the spooky month and I’d like to try to find them to maybe collect them into a post. Outfit August 2023 22: Beowulf (Our Ladies of War) This series was about making historical heroes into magical girls. Beo is the main character but I also have other historical figures like Alexander, Ghengis Khan and General Patton. XD Since Beowulf was king of the Geats, and they recided in what eventually became Sweden, i used a swedish pattern for the panels which gives the dress a nice fall feeling. The sleeves are shaped like pauldrons, and the side ties look really charming. I realized I dont have a lot of orange outfits this year and while that’s really good for variety, I want some fall colors in the grid XD. Her magical weapon has gone through SO MANY revisions and I still haven’t arrived to one I really like. It’s meant to be a lot like an Insect Glaive in function, so I think I need to go do more research. Its meant to be made from the antenna of a giant robot (looooong story XD) and the other antenna became Oda Nobunaga’s long sword, so I do need to make sure both weapons look similar. Outfit August 2023 21: Chronexci (Captured Time) I havent worked on this series about gods and goddesses of modern items and concepts in ages but I like drawing my camera goddess Chronexci. I think I was trying to make her name mean “captured time” but its been so long XD. She usually has a selection of lenses on her hands and on her clothing but I stripped a few of those back for the outfit here. She almost looks like a dark bride! XD Since the series was about an expanded Roman myth based pantheon, I figured modern fashion would be pretty interesting. I found some inspiration in dresses I saw in ads, searches and etx, and really liked the gauzy, see-through sleeve idea with a sleek, modern long dress with lace and minimal trim. Kinda goth gf, witchy and ethereal in its own way. I like to think the beads are shiny and that the sleeves have sequins dotted around. Since his was supposed to be Alice, all I ended up referencing was a color palette of light blues and dark blues and white. Treble is always in suits or more formal things like slacks and button ups, so I suppose this is less like a costume and more just….normal XD for him at least. I did a pattern on the tie and had it match the vest. But other than that, you’d really need Bass to see its a paired outfit XD. Which for someone as prim and proper as Treble, that also checks out since they’re inseparable and anything Treble does, its always with, for, or in concert (literally and figuratively) with Bass. Outfit August 2023 19: Bass (E.Q.) Bass and Treble are another pair so I did them as a facing spread. I chose a theme of Alice in Wonderland, which turned out perfect in context of the EQ story. In the EQ world, where music has been literally weaponized, Bass always felt it should be returned to an artform, and also struggles with his ideals vs the reality he is currently in. So him as the White Rabbit is an interesting interpretation of leading Treble, who used to be a part of that old ridged world, into a topsy turvy wonderland of underground music. I just liked it. Its odd to not see him in more vibrant colors (his image color is red) but the whites and creams suit him in an odd way. Also the ears look surprisingly cute on him too XD it was a bit more subtle, with just the “late” on his shirt and a watch necklace and I really dig it. Outfit August 2023 18: Jules Hawkins (MapGunners) Been awhile! Been resting a lot more since its been so busy these days. So I batched the weekend and here we are. Hawkins was one of the protagonists of a light novel/normal novel series MapGunners which is a fantasy adventure story in an era of exploration of their world. Hawkins is an earnest, fresh-faced young man who wants to explore the world and also find out what happened to his mentor, his uncle who went missing many years ago. Like the Distance world, this one has an equivalent fall season and holiday, but unlike Distance, this world has a 16 month year cycle and so a somewhat longer year. With 4 months dedicated to each season, it makes seasons feel a little more lived in and defined for me. As such, this isn’t really so much as an outfit for a holiday per say than an outfit for a season. It has nice muted color scheme with layers. His bag is based on an old favorite one I had that finally ripped. Its a cute simple outfit. The scarf python is a creature he rescued at a market and its basically a snake that is shaped like and is patterned like a scarf. I originally had it around his neck, which is where it usually is but I wanted to show off the hood and collar. I want a cute scarf shaped like a snake too :3 i included a part of his original sketch page when I created him years ago. Jetta, being quite the squid aficionado, does what she does best and tries to become a squid trainer at a small aquarium. Most other workers there are put off by the idea of "training" squids, but Jetta is very comfortable around them. As she lowers herself into the water, one of the smaller squids immediately latches on to her legs, Jetta is quite surprised by this action of the little water-type creature, but below the surface, emerges a shadowy figure with blazing eyes. Outfit August 2023 17: Mordecai (Misfit Demon Manor) I usually draw my gorgon Gretchen or Akiva from Misfit Demon Manor but I also love giving Mordecai a lil love.
