True Meaning behind Wedding Traditions. I hope that we see many of these "traditions" left behind. Today's title is "To First Look, or Not?" The meaning behind this tradition, it' interesting. It began when arranged marriages were the norm, couples not only spent their wedding morning apart, often they had not ever seen each other at all prior to the wedding. The concern for waiting until the bride reach to the alter, is if the groom found her not to attractive then he could call off the wedding, thus leaving the bride and her family humiliated. To ensure the bride and her family's reputation, the tradition came about that the couple wouldn't see each other until they stood at the Alter. I say "Do the first look" have that intimate time with just the two of you to soak in the day, think about the importance of the day, and this may be the only carved out time for the two of you.
