Jet was not having a good day. Liam wanted to ride Jet today what would have been completely fine any other day, but not today. When Liam got on Jet he had big troubles already and i noticed Jet starting to become a little to much for him so i told him to get off and that i would see if i could maybe work him through it. Well, boy, i could not. Jet has been quite anxious since Hades has been born and when we had saddled Jet up, we walked him past the pasture where Hades and Rebel were in, and all he wanted to do was go there. But i didn't find that a good idea yet since Rebel is still quite protective if her foal towards other horses and she doesn't even know Jet because he is kept in the other pasture. So we just walked him past it. He already threw a tantrum at that point but walked with us eventually. When Liam got on, all he wanted was to leave and look at the foal. I had the same issue, and when i pushed through it, trying to make him concentrate more on me, then the foal he started to throw a big tantrum. Fighting against my hands, not listening when i asked him to go into a direction, completely fighting me in every single thing i asked. He ended up starting to buck, and i fell off quite hard. I ofcourse got back on him, but he didn't really lighten up. At some point, he got tired and started listening a little, and that's where i ended it and got off. I wanted to end on some positive note instead of negative, and that's what i did. I decided that Liam won't ride Jet for a while until he was a little less obsessed with Hades. I told Liam he could ride Azul until she has found a leaser because we are still looking for one and ride Remi since she is still in the early stage of pregnancy and can still do a lot. Liam wasn't very happy with the idea of riding Azul because she is just to sweet for his liking but he was interested in riding Remi because she can be a little spicy and i think she is just the right amount of spiciness for him. In the meantime, i will try and work on Jet obsession with Hades and hopefully work him through it before Remi has to go on her pregnancy vacation. Otherwise, i won't have a horse for Liam to ride for some time.

Another surprise, even for me! Rebel gave birth this morning/night. I had checked up on her yesterday before i went to bed, and she had given no signs of being in labour or any other signs that it may happen soon. She was just grazing calmly in her pasture. Well, imagine my surprise when i walked out the door this morning for my feeding round and saw this little thing laying around already completely clean, dry, and standing. Rebel was just chilling around again like nothing happened. Rebel has given birth to a beautiful buckskin colt. It's definitely a mix from both parents he has the beautiful colour from his sire and the blue eyes, too, but he definitely has the high socks and wide Blaze from his dam. I decided to name him Hades because it seemed fitting for him. Both baby and mother are doing good, and both have already been checked by the vet. So how can we give our horses an escape? When we get a broken horse, we immediately try to work them; push ourselves onto them. We get straight to taming them, or desensitising them, or interacting with them. We want their life to be better. And these things are important, of course. But are we really giving our horses enough free time? Do they have enough free time between work hours to truly destress and spend time in their own world without us? And so, I fell down a rabbit hole. How do we quantify how much time left to their own devices is enough, or too much? This has been the subject of my research for the last couple of weeks. I've come to believe that perhaps I am pushing some of my horses a little too hard, without meaning to. Something else I have been doing lately is reading books. When your own world is not quite up to scratch, it is so easy to get lost in another. But that got me thinking. About horses, of course, and their behaviour. Dissociation, more specifically. When a horse is shut down, such as many of my behavioural referrals have been upon arrival, it is because they have no escape. Where can their mind go? Can they daydream like we do? I think it is unlikely. So it is a wander that they lash out, or rear up, or bite seemingly out of the blue? It is a wander they start stereotypical behaviours like windsucking and weaving that are incredibly hard to stop? One thing I've been really enjoying lately is mounted archery. It's a refreshing break from the standard competition life. Don't get me wrong - I love cross country especially more than anything - but mounted archery is a new challenege for me to wrap my head around. Like me, Amur needed something different to do too. He's a very reliable horse and being an endurance horse, this was a nice change of pace for him I think. I'd love to get some targets to practice with at home. Up on the bridge part2. Loki and I approached the bridge and the little shadow. I got on the ground and faced the smallest and freezing little fox.🥺 « You’re not the big bad wolf, aren’t you » I say to him as he laid down on the planks of the bridge. He was badly hurt, had big patches of fur removed and nasty cuts all over his body. Loki neigh softly at me and my heart broke. I couldn’t leave him here. I took my scarf and rolled it around him and hidden him in my coat. « All right little guy, no funny business in here ok? » I got up on Loki’ saddle and the fox popped his head out. I joined Will and the other rangers down the hill that welcomed me with eye rolls and laughs. « I found a fox! » I said with my most innocent smile. « I bet he is gonna pee on you» said Will. I laughed and tighten my coat around the little guy. « He is not going to pee on me!! » I answered looking at the fox for confirmation. Surprise!!! If you have seen my story, you may already know what this post is about. I also already gave a couple of hints away in 2 of my previous posts. But Remi has been scanned pregnant! Since Remi is such a gorgeous horse, i really wanted to have a foal from her. I wasn't planning on it so soon, but since Rebel is also having a foal pretty soon, i saw this as a nice opportunity to give Rebel foal a friend. Remi has been covered by the beautiful Stallion Rocket from @bel0vvveddd (swipe right). Rocket is a 16.2hh thoroughbred Stallion. I really wanted a stallion with some fun colours just like Remi, and oh boy, Rocket was just exactly what i was looking for. Remi foal is due somewhere in June what would make Rebel foal just around the 2 months older than Remi foal it depends on when Rebel decides to release her hostage and when Remi decide to release hers. Im so curious what colour is going to come out since both Remi and Rocket are gorgeous. The foal will be a morgan x unknown x thoroughbred. Since Remi, we only know that Remi mother was a morgan and her father stays unknown for us. Im very excited for the upcoming foals and so curious how they will turn out! !! Up on the bridge part1: « Nora, our round is mostly done. Check the bridge and let’s head back! » Will said from down the hill. It was in January, during a night round. Winter is one of the busiest period for the Rangers with ice settling, people getting caught in storm, roads being blocked randomly, protecting hibernating animals and all that funny winter jam. We were down the canyon around Dakota River, where Loki got injured. I am glad we can go back there now, without him stressing about it, I still do though. The bridge we had to check is the one the wolf attacked us, made Loki slip and injured himself but also where my friend lost his horse... I hate that bridge. « All right boy, let’s get over with this so we can go home» I say to Loki while I direct him towards it. As we are getting close to it to check under the structure, I see a little shadow on the bridge. My heart is racing. Could it be a wolf again? I stop Loki. I squeeze my eyes and it seems small and defeated. Loki tap the ground with impatience and pull the reins to signify he wants to go there. « Will there is something up there. Looks like a small canine ». No answer. Sierra is showing off. This girl keeps being amazing. We were just doing some dressage work, and Sierra found that boring, apparently, so she decided to show her moves in the meantime. When i bought this girl, i knew she was a half-sister of River, so i expected her to be a lot like River, but boy, oh boy. She is such a different horse. River is more insecure and needs a lot more reassurance while Sierra is confident and so calm. She knows what she has to do and how to do it. She has been such a good learning horse for me. If i wanted, i could even put a child on her, and she would be perfectly fine and well-behaved. Little Rebel update. Still no sign of labour or discomfort. She has been a little more grumpy lately, but that all. She is enjoying her new pasture and space. She is alone for now in the pasture but won't be for much longer. Rebel and her private pasture! Today, i spended my whole afternoon together with Elly father to build a third pasture. While we have enough room for all the horses and even more if we wanted, we still decided that this pasture was needed. Rebel can give birth any minute now since she has reached her safe date. Her due date is the 30 of april, so it's also getting quite close. We didn't have a space for Rebel to give birth to the baby alone. She could give birth in one of our stables but they are not that big so i didn't find that a good idea. So a extra pasture was needed so Rebel could give birth in a safe place and the foal and Rebel had a place to bond together without the other horses trying to interfere, BUT we didn't just build the new pasture for Rebel. I would like to keep the foals at home when it's weaning time. This pasture would be great for that! The pasture is also located next to my house so i can keep an eye on Rebel all the time and her foal when it's born. We are taking all preparations for this birth and keeping a close eye on Rebel since 2 days ago. Buying love with treats. Today, i had my first ride on this gorgeous lady. Of course, buying love with treats is a part of that! I decided to just go for an easy ride today so that we could get to know each other better. I already noticed that Remi is really forward and hard to hold back. She loves working, it seems, but she likes to go fast because walking is just boring, apparently. Remi is definitely a sweet girl, and i feel like she wouldn't set a step wrong because i felt safe on her the whole time, even while she was pulling on the reins quite a lot. Someone was almost too happy to work today. Decided to have a little training session with Jaya today. I have been riding her but not really focusing on anything, so today, i decided to work on some things with her again. She was very happy that i started to ask more difficult things again. I forgot how much Jaya loves to work and learn. Her only problem is staying focused because she gets distracted very fast. The training went great, Jaya was very energetic, so i tried to turn that around and make her more focused on me. In the end, she was completely focused and didn't get distracted or started going faster. I'm going to put a proper (IRL) update in my story, but I have had a lot going on lately, meaning I haven't really had the time or energy to post. For now, here are some of my favourite Spyro silhouette pictures. Tiger, Bullet, Storm, Valhalla, Tonatiuh, Arbiter, Sýnne, Amur, Spyro and Avalanche have been flying through their training and stud duties. They are all in pretty high demand, so finding the balance in training when they come back from stud each has been my priority. Tiger, despite being on the older side, has found a second wind lately and been pulling me towards some pretty tricky obstacles on the cross country course. Billi, Twilight and Sureño have been largely the same as the boys above, but without their stud duties as they are all gelded. Twilight has been doing a lot of cow cutting and get so excited. It's super cute to watch. Amur loved his endurance duties, but I found he was beginning to get a little bored, so I've been taking him along with Twilight for a change of scenery. He is not as confident around the cows as Twilight was from the start, but he is interested, which is a good sign. Chief and Thor passed their full ranger training, and have joined Frost, Ichigo and Yugen both pulling carriages and doing mountain rescue. I have been able to have them pull a carriage as a team recently and they were an absolute dream! I need to officially finalise my decisions for Avalanche, Küki, Arco, Reise and Chief's long term futures. I have some new horses and activities on the horizon that mean I need to downsize, but I also need to make sure that I do what is in the best interest of the horse. Perhaps loaning them out might be the best of both worlds. Exspiravit has found his new home, however his new owner will be allowing me to visit him, and has agreed that Exso can remain a part of stud program so we may see some Exso babies in the future! Ruin, Reise and Dauntless went off to the AH Sporthorses mare facility for some well deserved rest. I made the decision to retire Dauntless entirely - she was a great horse with lots of potential, but being ridden simply did not suit her. Reise may come back into work, or may stay there as a broodmare; I am not really sure yet. Ruin is also now a permanent broodmare. I've been taking things slow with Küki, and he has really turned a corner lately. I have still been looking after the boys in the background, and spending time with them, but competitions have definitely gone on the back burner for now. Jaspyr, Tobias and Arco are weaned and growing like weeds! Jaspyr and Tobias remain inseperable, and took weaning in their stride. Arco remains aloof, separate from them, and had to stay with Reise a little longer as he was not quite ready. Rascal Jet! Liam had a jumping lesson with Jet today. Sadly, i was unable to take pictures of it. But after their jumping lesson, liam needed to head off, so i decided to cool off Jet myself. I haven't ridden much on Jet, i just let Liam have fun with him because those 2 are such a great match together and i have so many other horses i can ride while Liam has only Jet to ride. But Liam was going to visit his aunt today, so he ended up not having time to cool Jet off properly, so i decided i would do that for him. Gave me some time to also bond with the rascal. Liam and Jet jumping lesson went great even tho Jet was a little stubborn today and refused a couple jumps. After Liam got some tips from his instructor, it went a lot better, and they jumped like it was nothing. They have reached a new record and have jumped up to 80cm now. The last time was around the 70cm. I'm so proud of how these 2 are doing together lately. Liam really loves him and enjoys riding Jet. Meet Remi, also known as Rollin' With Remi! This is Remi. She is an 11 year old morgan x unknown mare. I bought Remi from @rosewood.rescue.centre auction. She is absolutely gorgeous, i couldn't say no to here when i saw her being advertised. I wasn't particularly looking for another horse but since River has been leased to @ix.kumo and Rebel is out of training because of her pregnancy and will be for a while i was left with only 2 eventing horses where one is still in training. So i thought it couldn't hurt to own another what older eventer, and she is just perfect. I immediately introduced her to the herd when she arrived, and she decided to show some of her dressage skills. She has gorgeous movements, and im curious about how she is while being ridden. She had a small hiccup with Rebel when she wanted to say hello. Rebel was just not in the mood to make friends and gave her some sass. Luckily, Remi understood the hint and moved on to sweet Sierra, who didn't mind the company at all. Last ride for this pregnant lady before she gets her vacation. Rebel is getting closer and closer to her due date. She still has 3 weeks to go (Or longer if she decides keep her baby hostage), but she is starting to get a belly now. So i decided that today would be the last day i ride her before she is getting her vacation. I just decided to get on het without a saddle and walk around a little, not doing much. Just enjoying our last ride for a while. She was a little sassy, but Rebel is always sassy when she feels like it, so i got a couple of small bucks from her, but i just laughed and continued walking around. I also decided to put River and Azul up for lease. I got Azul to help me train Atlas in front of the wagon, but now that Atlas is away from training, i just don't really have much to do with her. River is going up for lease so someone else can help her get some more experience in while i focus on the upcoming new foal and on training the older eventing horses a little more. Introducing Callum! Show name: Call Me Dude Breed: Mostly American Paint x Quarter Horse Age: 7 years Height: 14.3hh This adorable little goofball is my second horse! 😁 He is very playful, curious, and also super sweet. He has lots of energy and is often doing something silly, so there’s never a dull moment with him. Since he likes to test the limits instead of working, he’ll need to learn some boundaries. He does low level jumping and barrel racing and I will be continuing his training in those, as well as training him in other disciplines because I like my horses to be well rounded. Riley has been home from the rangers for the past week, and I decided to get him back on the as the rangers had been looking for a wagon horse. I had previously wagon trained him but it had been a while since we had done any I decided to bring him home for this. He took to it very quickly and he hadn't forgotten a thing. He was a little on edge while hooking up to it but settled down with some petting. We arrived home safe and sound on monday! I took a day off from training the horses after i got home just to relax and recover from the vacation. So after some relaxing i decided to take Azul for a nice ride again. It had been a while since i went for a ride with the wagon with Azul so i decided it was about time. We went for a nice easy ride. Azul is really an angel and such a good horse. Even with her history being unknown because of her being a rescue she is still amazing. We didn't do a big round just a small one to get her eased back into some work. I have been lunging her and Liam had rode her a couple of time but she hasn't done any hard work lately. Im going to try and pick her up more again. We had an amazing ride on the beach today! We started our morning early, around 9 am, and headed breakfast before we headed off and went to the horses. We saddled them up and went for the beach ride. The horses behaved amazingly, and we had so much fun. We even went for a good canter down the beach. When we came back home, we removed the saddles and decided to have a small bareback ride on the horses. We didn't go far up the beach anymore because the horses were all pretty tired. We went for a small swim too with them. Jet didn't really appreciate it, tho. He would have rather stayed on the beach. But it was a great last full day. Tomorrow afternoon, we will be heading home again. Sadly, this vacation is coming to an end, but i have to say that i am also really missing my other horses and my own bed. So the idea of going back home isn't that terrible, i think Liam would still love to stay a couple days tho but sadly enough for him, that won't be possible. (Forgot to post yesterday whoops, just imagine it's still yesterday for a second) Today, we went on a nice hack with the horses. Yet, he had his opinion about it a couple of times and threw a small tantrum at the beginning of the ride, but overall, it went everything great. We decided to for a nice forest hack and visit an old castle ruin. We decided to have a nice picnic on the beach there while the horses rested for a little while before we headed back. We both loved the scenery, and the weather here is just amazing. We have arrived at our vacation location! The horses behaved amazingly on the journey. It was a long one. Almost 6 hours on the both, we were all very tired, so we spended our after noon just enjoying the sun and letting the horses settle in. Liam and i enjoyed our time together, just hanging around. We walked around the town a little bit, looking around before just sitting down in the sun. In the evening, we sat down at the campfire after dinner and went to bed early because we were both very tired. Training with Sierra. This girl is so amazing. She listens so well and understands everything perfectly. We worked on some dressage today, and she just did it al so great without a problem. When i ride her, i can focus more on myself because she does it so flawlessly. She is the perfect learning horse. It's also really nice to just have a easy going horse with all the young and unexperienced ones around. I love all my horses, but sometimes it is just nice to have one that knows many things already. Sierra is just a perfect angel. We did an easy training today, tho because tomorrow im going on vacation with Liam to Guarma! We will be taking 2 horses with us. I will be taking Sierra with me, and Liam will be taking his all favourite horse Jet with him. We will be gone for 4 days and enjoy the nice warm weather there and of course go on some nice hacks! I will be filming everything, so there will be coming a youtube video about it, but of course, i will post it here too! We will be leaving tomorrow morning at around 4.30 am and getting the train from 5 am. We will travel to Saint Denis with the train and from there we will be taking a boat. I am very excited about this vacation because it's been so long since i went on an actual vacation. Happy birthday to this amazing girl! On the 21st of march, this girl turned 5 years old (and was born a year ago in real time). Can't believe I've seen this girl get born and grow up to the amazing horse she is now. For the ones who don't know, i bred Jaya myself. She is the daughter of Eira, a mare i've sold not that long ago. Jaya was meant to be a small project, just so Rhya, my other self bred horse, had a friend to play with while growing up. Plans really turned out diffrent when Jaya stole my heart. My friend Elly is now the owner of Rhya because i didn't have time for her, but Rhya is still on our farm, and i cuddle with her every day. Rhya will also turn 5 years old tomorrow. Both girls are really growing up now. Meet Zealand! Show name: Ask No More Breed: Andalusian Age: 9 years Height: 15.2hh This beautiful guy is my first horse! He is sweet but does give some attitude when he's bored or has to do something he doesn't want to. He does dressage and low level jumping, though he is a little overweight so he will be capable of more when I get him to a good weight. I also want to try training him in other disciplines. He used to do hunters and xc before he got a hind injury and his owner discarded him. @rosewood.rescue.centre took him in and nursed him back to health. This period of minimal exercise is what caused his weight gain. Liam decided to jump with Jet today! Liam and Jet have been bonding a lot, and it's amazing to see how much those 2 are a match together. Jet can be a little monster when he feels like it. He can be sweet one moment and then suddenly be like no i don't want to anymore thanks, and start being a little brat. You would think a 12 year old would find that a little scary, but Liam just laughs and continues doing his thing. Since they've been doing so well together and Liam really wanted to jump, i decided to allow it with me close by, of course. It went great, and they both jumped everything amazing until Jet decided he didn't want to jump anymore and turned around last second. Liam had not expected this and ended up falling off. He had a good laugh about it when he sat up and saw Jet looking at him with a curious face why he suddenly was sitting on the ground. We both laughed, and Liam immediately got back on and did a couple more jumps before we finished for the day. He ended up being a little sore later in the afternoon from the fall, but it isn't anything to worry about. Next time, we will keep in mind that Jet can suddenly decide to turn around. Jet has also turned 8 years old, 7 march! We spoiled him all day with treats and cuddles. Pregnant lady. Today, i decided to ride rebel. She isn't that far in her pregnancy yet, so i can still ride her. I do take it a little more easy on her, but we did some nice work today. We mostly worked on our connection. How she moves how she listens, trying to find out what she finds easy and what needs some more work. She is quite the sassy lady, but she is sweet when she wants to be. Decided to have a fun trail ride with River! We both really enjoyed it. I worked a little on River endurance because she can get tired pretty fast and i was hoping to get her a little more familiar with strange surroundings because she was so freaked out with our last cross country competition. So we did a lot of cantering around and just having fun. We even jumped a small log on the way home that she loved. We did have some moments that she freaked out, and i almost fell off at one point because she suddenly decided to turn around, but luckily, i stayed on. This girl is definitely a handful but has so much potential. I rescued Cujo a couple of months ago now and he's come a very long way. From the scrawny, beat up horse I brought home to the healthy and shiny horse I have now. He's a polite gentleman and loves spending his time with the other horses. It makes me smile to see how far he has come. We've been working on standing still while tied up since he sometimes had a tenancy to freak out and he's really picked it up. Today I decided to start the backing process. It was just a light blanket and myself as I didn't want to put too much weight on him immediately. He was an absolute angel.
