"One can do anything,but not everything. So we need the support of others around us to achieve our goals." On May 6th, 2024, our school joyfully celebrated International Labour Day. A special assembly was conducted by the students of Class III A. They presented a small skit that highlighted the need to recognise the contribution of the working class in the society. To show appreciation, the students presented a bouquet as a token of gratitude to our school support staff. This was followed by a heartfelt song by the students and a dance performance by one of our support staff members. The students of Lower Kindergarten joyfully celebrated ‘Bagless Day’ on Monday, 6th May 2024, immersing themselves in vibrant discussions about the summer season, its fruits and vegetables, as well as summer attire and accessories. They even made a birthday cake, creatively adorned with fresh fruits. Emphasising the importance of healthy choices, they were encouraged to embrace fresh fruit juices over sugary alternatives. 'Srijan Chhande Anandey', a cultural programme commemorating the day began with a rendition of 'Hey Nutan’, followed by the song and dance performance, 'Hridoy Aamar Naachere Ajike' which signifies the resuscitating aspect of nature in general and the monsoon in particular. Poetry recitation on 'Amono Diney Taare Bola Jaye', was the next presentation which was accompanied by live art work and dance. 'Pran Chaye Chokhhuna Chaye', a lilting melody that showcased Tagore's delineation of love in its myriad hues was presented next. It was accompanied by a dance performance by students. On 29th and 30th April 2024, Meaghan Blight, President of Wesleyan College, USA conducted a workshop on ‘Understanding Leadership’ for students of Classes XI and XII. The session was followed by ‘Circle Painting’ conducted by Alexis Greg, Executive Director of CEO (Creating Equal Opportunities) Leadership Lab and Faculty of Art and it highlighted the connection between art, self-awareness, leadership and principles of design. Nidhi Khaitan from Class XII (Commerce) and Nishika Singhvi from Class XI (Humanities) won a scholarship worth $5000 for higher studies at Wesleyan College based on their performance in the Circle Painting session. On 29 April 2024, in a heartwarming act of community service, Sushila Birla Girls' School successfully completed a campaign to donate vital medical equipment to Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre and Research Institute. This initiative was led by Mrs. Rubena Chatterjee, Co-Curricular Coordinator of the school. The donation included several high-demand instruments such as fingertip pulse oximeters, infusion pumps and syringe pumps for the paediatric ward. These pieces of equipment are essential for enhancing patient comfort and improving the quality of care. Magical March 4.0, held on 18th and 19th March 2024, offered a plethora of workshops and activities for the students of Classes VI to VIII. The sessions included workshops on 24 musical instruments, Cajon, public speaking in Bengali, Sholapith, Eco Printing, Tie & Dye and Pottery. The choreography session on Hip-Hop and Bharatanatyam culturally enriched the young minds. Also, the workshops on Kalaripayattu and Archery were designed to improve physical fitness. An Art and Craft, Robotics and Photography Exhibition was organised on 21st March 2024 to provide a platform to students to express themselves creatively. The display ranged from pencil shading, still life study, paintings with pastel colour, water colour, acrylic colour, canvas painting, junk painting, tile painting, weaving, jharokha making and other creative displays. On the same day, the Photography Club students from Classes VI to VIII also exhibited their talent. Their showcase featured photographs exploring various themes providing an intriguing perspective on how mobile photography is transforming our perception and documentation of the world around us. Additionally, the Robotics Club Exhibition also showcased impressive working models presented by students from Classes VI to VIII. These models included a line-following car, water level monitor, humidity and temperature sensing device and product count mechanism. On Monday, 26th February 2024, the students of Nursery welcomed the arrival of spring with enthusiasm and curiosity. The day was dedicated to the exploration of the vibrant world of flowers. Through hands-on experiences such as observing real flowers and arranging them in bouquets, they learnt the names and characteristics of various flowers and appreciated their beauty and fragrance. On 8th March 2024, Sushila Birla Girls’ School organised an exhibition in which students of Classes III, IV and V showcased their year-long activities based on raising awareness about the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Providing an insight into crucial issues of protecting the planet, students exhibited fascinating and informative artwork, models and innovative experiments in the day-long event. Creative projects on rainwater harvesting, life on land and below water, clean water and sanitation and responsible consumption and production were displayed. An innovative role play highlighted the duties of every citizen and instilled in the viewers an urge to initiate a change to restore the well-being of Mother Earth. An overnight camp for Bulbuls was held on 2nd and 3rd March 2024 in the school premises. An enthralling range of activities curated to challenge and educate the young minds provided the Bulbuls with a unique opportunity to connect with the outdoors. While learning important skills in problem-solving and collaboration, the Bulbuls worked together to make bird nests, badges and snacks. A thrilling night camp under the moonlit sky allowed the Bulbuls to explore the surroundings in a different light. The students of Nursery celebrated Helpers’ Day on 16th February 2024. They dressed as community helpers and spoke a few lines about their respective professions. They also got an opportunity to interact with a cobbler, a traffic policeman, a security guard, a gardener and a few others and realized the valuable contribution made by them to the society. On 10th February 2024, the teaching faculty of Sushila Birla Girls' School attended the Staff Development Programme on Mental Health at Vedic Village, Rajarhat. The facilitator, Ms. Deboshila Bose, Counselling Psychologist from Fortis Hospital, spoke on the important indicators of some common mental illnesses, factors promoting well-being in classrooms like increasing positive emotions, classroom engagement, relationship building etc and recognising the stress signals in students. She also spoke at length about de-stigmatising the need to seek help for addressing mental stress and encouraging the students to build lasting relationships.
