This is 1 of only 50 in the world of it’s kind, the 2021 McLaren 720s LM, chassis number 298019. This very special LM spec 720s is part of a 50 car total run that offers a 720s dressed with ‘LM’ badging and comes offered in only two colors. Each car is painted in either MSO Sarthe Grey or MSO McLaren Orange. Each cars VIN will start with 298-which is the number of laps the winning F1 GTR completed, this car being chassis number 298019. The 720s was designed by Moroccan-born American automobile designer, Frank Stephenson, and was originally built upon a MonoCage II carbon fiber monocoque. The 720s first made it’s appearance during the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, where it impressed the crowds with it’s unique looking design, and it’s 710hp 3,994 cc (4.0 L; 243.7 cu in) twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The 720s utilizes a ProActive Chassis Control II active suspension system which is 35lbs lighter than the system used in the 650s. In December of 2018, McLaren revealed the 720s Spider, an all-new open-top flagship sports car. The 720s LM features other design elements that differentiate it from the standard 720s such as carbon front fenders, gold brakes, and in typical MSO (McLaren Special Operations) fashion, clients can get a wide array of MSO parts that could be added as well. Of the 50 total 720S LM cars being made only 16 of those cars will head to Europe. All 50 cars come equipped with five-spoke cast alloy LM wheels with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires and a black roof scoop. If you’ve been following McLaren over the years, you’ll notice that they have created many different LM variations of their already race-car-like road cars such as the Senna GTR LM, Senna LM, F1 LM, and others. This 720s LM may be mechanically the same as the standard 720s, however, it’s very easy to point out both its unique features and specs. This is the 2024 McLaren Solus GT (6 of 25), completed on July 28th of 2023, delivered to @thetriplefcollection in February 2024, and debuted for the first time in March 2024 at @modaevents_offical. This Solus is finished in a livery inspired by the colors of the major global oil company in operation from 1901 to 1985, @gulfoilinternational. Gulf Oil became involved in the motorsports in the year 1937 and the orange/blue livery first became popular in the 1960’s after the company sponsored the John Wyer Automotive racing team. Gulf Oil and McLaren’s relationship dates back to the 60’s with their success in the Can-Am series and still thrives to this day. Between 1995 and 1997, several McLaren F1 GTR’s wore the livery, one of them being victorious in the 1996 BPR Global Endurance Series. The Solus boasts a bespoke carbon fiber monocoque, and while built to FIA crash standards, all of the restrictions that would typically apply to a track or road car have been waived. The Solus GT offers F1-style carbon fiber crash structures, 3D-printed titanium components, a uniquely designed sliding canopy roof system and much more. On the interior of the Solus GT, you’ll find only one seat, a six-point race harness, adjustable pedals, and an F1-inspired steering wheel. All Solus clients receive a bespoke HANS (head and neck support device), an intercom system with pit-to-car radios, spare sets of wheels, a custom racing helmet and more. The Solus GT project was entirely based on the 2017 Vision Gran Turismo concept car from the @sony video game ‘Gran Turismo Sport’. Most people think the McLaren Speedtail is ugly, I beg to differ. I’ve always favoured effortless aerodynamics, design elements that form to the car rather than stick out, my favourite example of this design style is within the Porsche 959. My favourite hidden aerodynamic attributes is the flexible rear panels on the longtail rear, above a certain speed the body panels themselves flex upwards from a seamless edge. The Speedtail was made as a tribute to the McLaren F1, with only 106 produced, the $2.3 million USD price tag had a selling factor of being the fastest McLaren ever, with a top speed of 250 MPH (403 KMH). However, due to the extremely sleek aerodynamic design, (no mirrors) it was not street legal in the U.S. and could not be sold new, it could be imported to the United States under the show and display law that was implemented due to the 959 not meeting U.S. regulation, another commonality between the two. This is a 2020 McLaren Speedtail, chassis #87, and has been through 4 auctions within its extremely short existence. It first appeared at @rmsothebys 2022 Amelia Island Auction, where it sold for $2.7 million USD, with 275 miles. Only two months later it was at @mecum_auctions 2022 Indy, again with 275 miles, and failed to sell with the highest bid being $2.5 million USD. It was set to be auctioned at @mecum_auctions Kissimmee in January 2023 but was delayed for @mecum_auctions Glendale, three months later in April, where it failed to sell AGAIN with a high bid of $2.4 million USD. Not even 5 months later it was auctioned AGAIN, for the fourth time so far, in @mecum_auctions ‘ 2023 Monterey Auction. It failed to sell AGAIN, with a highest bid of $2.2 million USD and only 297 recorded miles. This example is probably the most accurate depiction of the Speedtail market, for some time now the Speedtail market value has been declining with the most recent auction only reaching a highest bid of $1.7 million. This specification wears an elegant “MSO Heritage Gloss Steel Blue” which compliments the lines in the bodywork. The interior is “Semi-Aniline Metallic Blue Silver Leather” which ties in the exterior. August 2023

In general, the 720s is a pretty incredible model, with a rather interesting story. The 720s was designed by Moroccan-born American automobile designer, Frank Stephenson, and was originally built upon a MonoCage II carbon fiber monocoque. The 720s first made it’s appearance during the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, where it impressed the crowds with it’s unique looking design, and it’s 710hp 3,994 cc (4.0 L; 243.7 cu in) twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The 720s utilizes a ProActive Chassis Control II active suspension system which is 35lbs lighter than the system used in the 650s. In December of 2018, McLaren revealed the 720s Spider, an all-new open-top flagship sports car. The Spider variant used a modified monocoque, which for this model is considered a ‘Monocage II-S’. Due to the lack of the fixed roof, the 720s Spider features the unique dihedral doors, another slight change from the coupe model. On the interior of both the coupe and spider variants, you’ll find a heavily race-inspired cockpit, with a touch of modern. Reportedly, from the factory, the McLaren 720s is said to be able to achieve a 0-60mph time of just a little less than 3 seconds, with a top speed over 200mph, which is relative to both the Spider and Coupè, as they are both quite similar in performance. In total, it’s estimated that approximately 4200 coupes and 2500-2800 spiders were built before the model went out of production. What do you think of the McLaren 720s?
