Revisiting and oldie but a goodie. I picked up this @starlight_distillery rye, finished in VDN barrels, at @corknbottle in the CVG airports couple years ago. Side bar - if you ever fly through Cincinnati, make sure you stop at @corknbottle. I love everything this bottle has to offer. It reminds me of a New England style rye. It’s punchy, orange peel and cherry goodness. The finish is sweet with the slightest bit of toasted oak. I wish I had a back up bottle of this one!

🌴What’s your favorite barrel finish for Rye?! ⭐️ @starlight_distillery has consistently proven that it knows how to finish it’s whiskey. They experiment with a variety of different finishes ranging from Rum to Cognac to Sherry to Calvados to Port etc etc. Often times, these cask finishes result in uniquely flavorful and interesting whiskeys. This particular single barrel is a 4.5 yr old 103 proof Rye finished in Tokaji barrels selected by @maisanosfinewine . The Tokaji influence softens the punchy spice of the Rye and sweetens the herbal quality of the grain. At the same time, the sparkling spice of the Rye prevents the Tokaji finish from creating a cloyingly overly sweet whiskey. The successful result of this finish reveals a unique and well balanced subtly sweet and still appealingly spicy Rye expression w/ underlying refreshing herbal qualities. HISTORY: So…What is Tokaji??🤷♂️ Tokaji is the term typically used to describe a lusciously sweet dessert wine from the Tokaj region in northeastern Hungary. Another one for the memories and this one couldn’t be more vivid. This rye @thepartysourcenky pick from @starlight_distillery was freshly cracked on a cold January night with @thebourbonandryeclub and @gszakall. Yes it can get fricken cold in New Orleans. We sipped this one, along with an unknown bottle, provided by @thebourbonandryeclub, called seagrass 16 yr that night. I joke, but in all seriousness, everytime I kill or revisit these bottles they all bring up different moments in time. Some less memorable but others I will never forget. AND I WILL NEVER FORGET HOW COLD IT WAS ON THAT PINIC BENCH THAT NIGHT😂😂. AND HOW DAMN GOOD THAT SEAGRASS TASTED. I will surely miss this one. I was skeptical at first but 100% glad I bought this bottle. Apple Jacks cereal on the nose with a lemon-tea on the palate resembling an Arnold palmer. Cheers y’all 🥃
No typical Sunday evening scotch post this week. Today on our way back home we passed by Starlight Distillery and of course had to stop by. Picked up some fantastic whiskeys including three brandy variety finished ryes and a cognac finished bourbon. Also snagged some amazing peaches. Royal Corn Cola Starlight Single Barrel Select Rye whiskey finished in rum barrels Selected by @beverage_king Aged 4 1/2years - 110.8 Proof Was able to get my grubby hands on another Harsha pick. This starlight rye dubbed “RC Cola” lives up to its name, but in an unexpected way. I was expecting big, sweet cola notes…but what I got was an initial tingle to the lips followed by a slight dry fruit and cola taste that quickly turns into a long rye spiciness that heats the back of the mouth. It really leaves a lingering, boozy RC Cola taste. Verdict:👨🏽⚖️👨🏽⚖️👨🏽⚖️1/2 (buy it). This was my first starlight offering and it did not disappoint. Really liking the profile on this one….
