I'm really excited about this color! This is Elyse, and she goes to school in Florida 🌞 so she's there probably 3/4 of the year, but she will only get her hair done by me when she's home 🙏 I appreciate that so much! We usually do a heavy foil with root shadow and toner, and it always comes out super bright blonde all over, blended and seamless and beautiful 🙌 But during her last few visits I talked to her about maybe trying a balayage some day. And today she went for it! And loved it!! 😍 The last photo shows her hair before we started the balayage. Now, it was very grown out, but the previous color still looked good. Barely brassy ✔ no harsh grow out line ✔ But, it has that classic highlight look that you get with foils: blonde spread evenly and uniformly throughout every inch of her hair. With balayage, instead of tiny evenly spaced strands of blonde through the whole head, I hand paint 🖌 panels of blonde while leaving natural hair untouched in between. What that gives you is DIMENSION. Every blonde piece has natural color directly behind it, making each piece of blonde pop ✨ Also, because I'm literally painting each highlight with a brush onto sections of hair (as opposed to weaving out pieces, putting them in a foil and saturating with lightener) I blend everything exactly the way I want and there's no need for a root shadow at the end! This guest made my job easy 😅 she just wanted a natural looking, subtle balayage that she wouldn't have to touch up anytime soon. Her natural color was pretty light to begin with so I knew a traditional balayage would be perfect for her. She also had medium to fine hair, so it was pretty quick too! This blonde is perfection 😍 #nofilter by the way (as always).. the last photo is before we started. I did a heavy full foil on my guest Katherine since it had been awhile since we did any highlights and she had a lot of roots. I had to put a lot of back to back foils to avoid having a shadow 😣 from those long roots. With Olaplex in the lightener of course! Then after the foils were rinsed, I did a base break which lightens the root between the foils just slightly - to make her appear lighter all over, and to help her roots grow in better. I touched up her root color (in the "before" photo I had already started her root color, forgot to take the before pic at the very beginning 🤫) and did a natural looking balayage to make her already blonde hair pop. Then I gave her a sleek, easy-to-wear bob cut that's really flattering. This is my friend Anna and her color came out so beautiful 😍 you can see in the last pic that she had dark all over before we started. She wanted something rooty and not too light, just to add some lighter pieces and break up the dark. I love the teardrop 💧 color pattern - starting up high around her face then gradually going further away from the root towards the back of the head. I love watching a guest's color transform over time until we finally get to their perfect shade 👌 We had always just touched up her base color - her hair was solid dark brown for years. Then a couple months ago we decided to add a few highlights to add dimension and some warm tones. The first time we made them a light brown mahogany color 🥃 The second appointment we touched up her roots then toned the highlights a deeper red color 🍒 This time she wanted an even deeper wine color 🍷 that would fade to a lighter red in between visits. Here is the result! These highlights were put in over 8 weeks ago, but you can't tell 😲 because the grow-out is seamless! In normal lighting you can just barely see a hint of the deep red highlights, but in sunlight they are brighter, as shown in this video. Once you build the house (put in highlights) you can change the color of the paint 🎨 any time you want. This guest has really been having fun with it! I really hate taking hair photos at night 😣 The lighting in the salon just doesn't allow me to show the color the way it really looks. But this before and after was so pretty I just had to try to get a good shot 📷 And I got one! So excuse the background, this was the best lighting in the place at the time. The really cool thing is I had just taken an online class THAT MORNING and this client came in and asked for exactly the technique I learned in class: rooty, bright blonde but with plenty of dimension.
