TEAMSTERS DON’T CROSS PICKET LINES. This morning we had over 850 members join, between in-person & Zoom option, for our 2nd Quarter General Membership Meeting of the year! The turnout is large in part due to the current negotiations between the WGA and AMPTP. As shared today, we stand with the writer’s in their fight to address their real and reasonable bargaining priorities. They will continue bargaining with the studios this week, up until the the expiration of their contract on May 1st. “No one should feel sorry for the employers,” said Principal Officer Lindsay Dougherty. “We stand with the writers in their pursuit of a strong and fair contract. Should the employers be unable to address the writers concerns, and they do go on strike, Teamsters will continue to be in solidarity. Teamsters don’t cross picket lines. It’s not in our DNA, and it is a protected right in our contracts.” While we brace for the final week of bargaining and prepare our members for what could possibly unfold, the energy in the room was strong. Teamsters Local 399 members know our fights with the studios are just around the corner. All the Hollywood Unions and Guilds have a common enemy and that is the employers. Our solidarity amongst ourselves is our greatest strength. Also discussed today was our fight for our California Film & TV Tax Incentive, upcoming AICP contract fight, grievances update, increased contract enforcement, upcoming classes, preparing for AMPTP bargaining next year and more. Principal Officer Dougherty assured the members that we will continue to be in constant communication with our members. We will address all issues and concerns leading up to next week. When Teamsters Fight, Teamsters Win. We have the support of our General President, General Secretary-Treasurer & International. We are ready for whatever is to come in all the fights ahead, and we will take care of our own to protect, preserve and improve the lives of our members. What’s so exciting about it is… it’s the first custom fit wheelchair I have been able to get since 2001, when I was 18 years old and starting my freshman year at CSUN. My last wheelchair was found through Craig’s List 12 years ago by my parents because the replacement wheelchair I received from my insurance at that time didn’t fit what I needed and the insurance I had back then was not going to work with me to swap it out for something that met my needs better. Fast forward 12 years… I am now a Local 399 Teamster with AMAZING medical benefits and I was able to get a wheelchair that is actually fitted to me! Thank you @teamsterslocal399 for negotiating great benefits for the membership. Also, a BIG thank you to my Pops @carshan1977 for gifting me the rest of the money to cover the cost of my new wheels (insurance covered 90% and I only had to cover the last 10% under my plan). I am fortunate enough to be able to live an independent life, but it would not be possible without the right medical equipment. I am extremely grateful for both the family & union that I have supporting me, it’s because of them that I am able to live my best life. I am still getting used to the new chair and figuring out my adjustments to the day to day routine, so I am wearing a seatbelt in my chair for the first time in over 20 years 🤣😂. I have no doubt I will have it all figured out in no time. Ah man, what a way to start the week, but with a meet and greet with the unbelievably beautiful, amazing, the legend herself Ms. Rita Moreno @theritamoreno, she’s 91 years old folks and stunning as ever, i can’t stop smiling! I told her i worked with James Garner nearly 20 years ago and we talked about so much, one of them being how much he loved Rita, they were longtime friends. We all know about “West Side Story” of course, she won an Academy award but have you ever seen “Marlowe”? She stars opposite James Garner and she does a dance scene in that film that will blow you’re mind! “HAPPY KING DAY!” Almost 75 Teamsters Local 399 members marched in the 38th Annual Kingdom Day Parade alongside the Teamsters National Black Caucus, the Teamsters LGBTQ+ Caucus and Members and Local Leaders from Local 63, 2010, 396, 848, 952, 1932 and more. This year was more than just a march to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. — this was a CELEBRATION! This was the first year of the parade that members working under contracts bargained with the AMPTP had this day OFF as a HOLIDAY. This fight was led by Drivers and Location Professionals of Local 399 who started the campaign @teamsters4mlkday. We are proud of their advocacy and fight to make this Local 399 Dream a reality. After the parade, participants gathered for a post parade celebration lunch. This event, organized by members part of the Black Location Professionals of Los Angeles was a time to share a meal, dance, get to know one another and reflect on the hard work and solidarity that is building throughout our membership. We are grateful for the leadership, time and energy of this group to make sure that on a day of remembrance, Local 399 members could still have fun! The ‘Kingdom Day Parade’ will continue to be a parade that Local 399 proudly marches in to show the community and our fellow Sisters and Brothers that the life, lessons and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. must continue to ring true today.
