When traveling, reasons for finding a spot to stay can vary. 🏩 Sometimes you’re just looking for a spot to rest your weary head. The best nap I’ve ever taken was in a hotel in an airport in Turkey 😴 Other times you want a place that matches the local flavor and tells a story. Once in New Orleans we stayed in a loft located above a painting/yoga studio. One of the best parts was our security, 6 statues of men with bunny ears on the rooftop keeping watch 🐰 Every morning we waved good bye, and every night, they welcomed us home from on high. Moroccan Door Monday! 🇲🇦 One of my favorite types of door in Marrakech is the door within a door. 🚪 I like to pretend that if I go through the smaller door, it’ll take me into a different world than the bigger ones. Of course, I’m sure it has more to do with weather and staying cool and warm, but I can’t help my imagination 😆

When we’re traveling we like to seek out local and small businesses 🛍 It’s a great way to meet new people and learn more about the place you’re visiting. But sometimes, I don’t have any room left in my suitcase 🧳 or I blew my budget on two Moroccan rugs. Sorry, not sorry? 😆 A few tricks I’ve picked up are to grab a card and store it in a travel binder 📇 or take a picture of the shop’s name. This way when I get back home, those once local but now distant goods are just a click away. 💻 And that’s where I found this print. I was organizing my New Orleans photos and stumbled upon a shop I had loved. Happy Valentine’s to me 🥰
✨Mardi Gras is here! ”Laissez les bon temps rouler!” Or “Let the good times roll!” 🎊 The St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square is one of my favorite spots. It can be a bit crowded, but is totally worth the visit. The Square is full of life. Bands play, tarot cards guide, futures are read, and people laugh and sing and take in the wonders from the shadow of the cathedral. ⛪️ Once you enter the cathedral though, you’re met with a peaceful reverence. The beauty is breathtaking. On the way out, light a candle and whisper a prayer for those you love 🕯
I don’t know about Laurie and Kristen, but I’ve always had a thing for cemeteries. 🪦 The older the better. No matter where I go, I’m always on the lookout for one whether I realize it or not. I like reading the names and dates and thinking of the people that loved the deceased ♥️ New Orleans is a city that you could go to just to visit their cemeteries. St. Louis No. 1 is the most popular location, and you must go on a guided tour to visit. But there are so many others that are less crowded and self-guided. We’ll be sharing them in our stories. No matter what experience you’re looking for, New Orleans has got the cemetery for you 🪦

When you think about New Orleans, what’s one of the first things that pops into your head? For us (and many of our followers) it’s food 😋 Beignets, which are similar to fritters, are one of the most popular nibbles in town. Heavily dusted in powdered sugar and served with a steaming cup of café au lait ☕️ (or hot chocolate) it is guaranteed to be a treat you’ll never forget. Just leave the black shirt at home, unless you don’t mind wearing evidence of what you just ate 😆 Two of our favorite spots to grab a beignet are Café du Monde and Café Beignet. Taking a quick jaunt from New Orleans to Marrakech... One year ago today, I was buying a vintage rug for my home at @lesnomadesde.marrakech 🇲🇦 It’s an amazing rug shop with even more amazing employees. One of our favorite things about walking through the souks of Marrakech 🇲🇦 is getting behind the scenes peeks of the artisans mid-work. Sometimes it’s old hands chiseling out the tiniest of details, and other times young hands craft with years of knowledge passed down through the generations 🤲🏻 But each tile, each shoe, each rug has a story of its own. That’s why we visit Marrakech, to meet the men and women behind the goods that we bring back to California. They, the artisans, breathe life into their work and send love into our homes. ♥️

Every trip we take to 🇲🇦 Morocco, I always come home with a new blanket for myself. One of our favorite things to do in Marrakech is to explore, obviously. The old city is beautiful and winding and bustling. It’s also very, very easy to get lost. 😬 So when we visit, we make sure to hire a tour guide. We’re fortunate to have good friends in town, @marrakechfoodtours, that not only offer amazing tours themselves, but also know legitimate guides to book when we’ve eaten our weight in Méchoui and spent our last dirham on that vintage rug. And because of that, we’ve lucked out with every single guide that we’ve had. Their knowledge of the city, the people, and the history is extensive.
