No, although the end goal is skin rejuvenation, there are some important differences between these two modalities.โ โ 1: They use different technologies: Tixelยฎ is thermomechnical energy (ie heat + force), where DOT laser is a precise beam of light.โ โ 2. The little wounds in the skin made by each is different: Tixelยฎ produces semicircular holes (where the width is equal to the depth), and DOT laser produces different shapes and depths of wound depending upon the settings used.โ โ 3. DOT laser can be customised to deposit a different amount of heat into the skin (from very little to quite a lot) depending upon what result we are looking to achieve), Tixelยฎ only generates a small amount of heat.โ โ 4. Because of 1-3 above, Tixelยฎ and DOT laser have different healing times and the number of sessions varies. It is NOT a laser or light-based treatment and therefore means we can treat right up to the lash line to target those pesky fine lines and flaccid skin, with no risk of damaging the eyes!โ It involves a heated metallic plate, at a temperature of 400 degrees, with blunt pyramid-shaped spikes that gently touch the skin in a stamping motion. This results in water evaporation, creating micro-channels in the skin. This controlled injury stimulates an inflammatory response within the skin, which has a domino effect in collagen & elastin formation, while forming a pathway of open channels for enhanced penetration & absorption of active products directly into the dermis (true mesotherapy). These micro channels are different to that of dermal needling, as the channels stay open over a 6 hour period, rather than closing after a few minutes.
