The best wild blueberry pie I’ve ever had 😍 and it’s Wild berry season. The crust was thin and flaky, the Wild berries were filled to the brim. It wasn’t cloyingly sweet and the natural flavors of the blueberry we’re enhanced. I love this! Also it’s lobster season, the lobster on a bun was so clean tasting and fresh, I wish we could stay longer. Landed in Sydney... Nova Scotia. Apparently there was a couple who flew in here expecting to be in Sydney Australia. True story says our guide. The whole town welcomed them, lent them a car and gave them winter cloths coz they came in February packed for Australian summer 😄. Sydney is a harbour town on Cape Breton Island, in Nova Scotia, Canada. By the water, the Big Fiddle is a huge violin statue honouring local music. Wooden 18th-century buildings include the Cossit and Jost houses, now museums with period furniture. St. Patrick’s Church Museum showcases local history in an 1828 church. East, at Glace Bay, the Cape Breton Miners’ Museum explores the area’s coal-mining heritage. Membertou is mostly an urban First Nation community. Named after the Grand Chief Henri Membertou (1510-1611) the Membertou First Nation belongs to the greater tribal group of the Mi'kmaq Nation. Membertou was not always situated at its present location. Many years ago, Membertou (formally known as the Kings Road Reserve) was located just off of Kings Road, along the Sydney Harbour. In 1916, the Exchequer Court of Canada ordered the relocation of the 125 Mi’kmaq; the first time an aboriginal community had been legally forced through the courts to relocate in Canadian history. It’s Poutine day at the Lido Deck of Zaandam. Regular fries for The Kid and sweet potato fries for the rest of us. It was calorifically delicious! poutine n. French-Canadian dish traditionally made of French fries and fresh cheese curds, covered with gravy. The most widespread story is that poutine originates from a restaurant formerly called Le Lutin qui rit in Warwick, in the Arthabaska region. In 1957, a client named Eddy Lainesse would have asked the owner Fernand Lachance to mix the cheese curds with the fries. A Drummondville restaurant called Le Roy Jucep registered a trademark stating that it is the inventor of poutine. The Basilica is a Sanctuary dedicated to Saint Anne. It is only natural then, that the first images which attract our attention would be about Saint Anne. Even if we know very little about the life of Saint Anne, the simple fact of being the mother of Mary and the grandmother of Jesus, is sufficient for the Church to recognize and venerate her for centuries. The entire ceiling mosaic of the Basilica describes the life of Saint Anne. It tells the story of her life, the life of a Jewish woman of that era. It speaks of her virtues, which by the way should be ours too. The vault also illustrates her glorification to us. At the heart of the apse, just above the main altar, we see Saint Anne, the Virgin Mary and the child Jesus. Saint Anne is giving a fruit to Jesus; which is not just a treat from a grandmother to her grandson, it is a marvelous symbol of His Mission as the Redeemer and Saviour of Humanity. It is not a Fruit of Death, like the fruit that Adam and Eve ate, but a Fruit of Life saving us from original sin. In this glorification, these three people are surrounded by the many Blessed of our church, as well as Saint Joseph, Saint Joachim and Saint John the Baptist. In the background, one can see a large orchestra of elegant musical angels. The first MAJOR RELIC arrived at the Shrine on July 26, 1892, as a gift from Pope Leo XIII. It is a 4-inch portion of the bone of Saint Anne's forearm.
