Owners and operators of the Rocky Mountain Wood and Leather Company @rmwlc, Janie-Nicole and Dennis, enjoy working in two studios where they produce beautiful, artistic crafts. Dennis works with wood and creates spoons, kitchen utensils and spatulas. He developed his woodworking skills by making wooden bowls but quickly evolved his craft to create wooden spoons. He uses exotic woods from all over the world but often uses local wood or sometimes he even repurposes old furniture into spoons. Janie-Nicole makes original leather bags and other leather goods. She started using a sewing machine as a young teenager and often made her own clothing and accessories. She loves putting together the different fabrics and coming up with unique designs. Farmer Jenn and farmer Nick of Ghostly Garlic @ghostlygarlic have been farming garlic for over a decade. Their garlic farming dreams became a reality when they purchased their first acreage on Cemetery Rd in Lake Country, BC in 2019. It all started with 20 head in a 4x8 garden box. Farming and processing quickly became a full time job and they started attending farmers markets and events five days a week. In late 2021, they began looking for land to expand the business and their love, and production, of garlic. With family in mind, they made the decision to leave the Okanagan and move to Millarville, Alberta where the farm is now located. Fast forward to 2022 and they have now harvested 2 acres! Spending time watching her mother and grandmother as they created many crafts from beadwork to crocheting inspired her to begin her own creative journey. She creates dreamcatchers in the traditional design, and also mixes up some designs with unique and modern twists. Wherever possible, she up-cycles textiles for her wrappings and lacing, seeking local vendors for embellishments or finishing up an old stick or rock for each piece.
