Ein wichtiger nachwachsender Rohstoff für BASF ist laut eigener Aussage Palmkernöl sowie dessen primäre Derivate, die hauptsächlich zur Herstellung von Inhaltsstoffen für Kosmetikprodukte und Wasch- und Reinigungsmittel sowie für Nahrungsmittel verwendet werden. Es gibt kein nachhaltiges Palmöl! Der Ölpalmenanbau und die Verarbeitung ist eine höchst umweltschädliche Industrie. Die Tausende Hektar großen Monokultur-Plantagen in den Ländern Indonesiens sind häufig Resultate von Abholzung des Regenwaldes oder der Vertreibung von Kleinbäuer*innen. Sie laugen die Böden aus, sind sehr wasserintensiv und benötigen große Mengen an chemischen Düngern und Pestiziden.i Und da Palmöl so billig ist, zerstört die subventionierte Fleisch- und Milchindustrie den Regenwald nicht nur für Soja, sondern auch für Palmöl als Tierfutter! - Nennt sich dann nachhaltig!
