MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT 📣 🔥 Let us welcome Ruben Dorsey to the RDMBA team as our Executive Director. Ruben is extremely excited to start taking over the club and leading RDMBA into their next Fall & Spring Season. You may recognize him from our “Meet The Coach” spotlight. Ruben has some great education and work experience that we believe will really assist RDMBA’s programming. He has a degree in Sports Managemwnt and experience in after school sports programming, running programs at the Dome and currently works within the recreational department for the City of Red Deer. On top of that, he has a variety of athletic experience himself with playing basketball, baseball and was able All-American nationally-ranked track and field collegiate athletes. His personal sporting experience has also empowered him to be a great coaching assist to not only RDMBA but other programs. Let’s give a big welcome to Ruben!

Her educational background in Psychology. Smriti has always had a passion to work with youth and families in a human services capacity. During her time at Vantage, she has gained further knowledge on how to interact with youth, educating them on proactive coping skills, assisting with conflict resolutions and long-term plans assisting their physical and mental needs during their time at our program. She is constantly learning each day and enjoys that about the position. ➕ Outside of work, Smriti enjoys reading books, going on walks, travelling, hiking and hangout out with her friends. ➕ We are grateful for her hard work and impact on our youth each day at Solstice.

M E E T H O P E 👋🏼! she/her Hope is our Event Coordinator for the summer through the Canada Summer Jobs program. She will be assisting our Marketing Coordinator Morgan, with the big Annual Thrown’ it Back Golf Tournament this year. Hope is currently enrolled in her 1st year at Red Deer Polytechnic in their Computer Programming diploma. @reddeerpolytechnic She has 3 semesters left and is excited to grow into her new career. Hope is excited to utilize this experience to sharpen her skills learning from the best while in hand learning about her community in the process. She enjoys being a part of the Vantage team, as it is a great way to show her passion for mental health and spreading awareness to the community. Outside of the office, she enjoys her passions which include yoga, painting and spending time with her loved ones. M E E T V I C T O R I A 👋🏼! she/her Victoria is one of our Intern Therapists this Spring/Summer. After finishing a Bachelor’s in Psychology at a University in Ukraine, she decided to pursue a Master’s in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. She was always interested in learning about human development, social behaviour, cognitive processes, and culture, which has inspired her to pursue a path in the human services field. Victoria has previously enjoyed working at Vantage and is happy to come back to do her internship at Vantage. She believes Vantage’s principles and approaches to mental health align with her personal and professional values, allowing her to learn and grow her knowledge of mental health practices. Victoria is interested in continuing to work with high-risk youth, adolescents, and families. She also wants to learn new techniques, interventions and approaches such as trauma-informed, family therapy, person-centred, solution-focused CBT, DBT, EFT, IFS, EMDR and mindfulness.

Meet Coach Ruben 👋🏼! 🏀 Ruben has 7 years of experience playing basketball. His career started playing basketball in St.Louis Missouri playing for a competitive AAU team called the all-stars. Winning two city championships U13 and U15. Then he went on to play two seasons of high school basketball winning a conference championship his freshmen year. During Rubens's undergraduate, he coached two youth basketball teams. Taking one of those teams to the championship game. Coach Ruben then coached for 1 year in the Edmonton pro-am organization. Coaching has always been a passion for Ruben he loves to develop athletes on and off the field.

Previously, Amanda worked as a Child and Youth Care Worker for youth with disabilities, youth in care and now volunteering as an in-school mentor. She has always wanted to pursue her current path since she was young, after her first interaction with a Psychologist. ➕ Amanda is excited to intern at Vantage because her peers within the field, who have completed their internship through Vantage, highly recommended it. She likes how Vantage offers her a diverse experience in multiple areas of counselling and therapy, such as working with individuals, couples, and families. Amanda hopes to learn how to effectively put her years of knowledge into practice through the guidance and supervision of experienced professionals. She is interested in working with couples as she is passionate about relationship building and maintenance, especially surrounding communication and intimacy. ➕ Amanda enjoys going to the gym, golfing, and camping in her spare time.
