After owning every other Zelda special/limited/master/collector’s editions for Switch, I finally decided to pick up a sealed Dreamer’s Edition. It’s a bit bittersweet because I don’t keep both the sealed and the CIB for these, so the mint CIB copy is going to my good friend @selphygamer. The Zelda Game & Watch line up…. Which is your favorite? Is it the original 1989 ZL-65? Is it the 1998 Mini Classics? Or is it the 2021 remake which contains three Zelda games in one? I personally gotta say the 1989 original. I think it’s some of the most unique box art in the franchise and holding that mint handheld just fuels so much nostalgic energy from the 90’s. I didn’t have that exact handheld as a kid, but I had many, many handhelds that were similar (like most of you probably did). Plus, that one just came with cool paperwork to go with it. I upgraded this more recently and forgot to post it. I had the complete magazine but didn’t have the outer shipping sleeve. Now she’s really complete. I love that the original owner was so careful to cut down the side of the slipcover and keep it in tact. This is Nintendo Power Volume 114, the greatest issue ever released. It came out the same time as OOT and was NP’s biggest issue to date. It’s chalked full of Zelda goodies, as well as tons of others, included a Superman poster and a Pokemon insert in the back. Did you know these Nintendo Fun Club News magazines existed? It was free to join and you’d receive free subscription issues before the days of Nintendo Power magazines. They offered tips and tricks, news, and even some comics inside. There were seven issues total and were eventually stopped when Nintendo Power issues started in 1988 (which you got the first volume free if you were a Fun Club subscriber). This first issue fetches a pretty penny and is hard to find in nice condition. The later issues are much easier to find. Here she is in all her beauty! Hyrule Warriors: Limited Edition, sealed and graded a NM+ 90+, second highest pop that we know of. Only 300 of these were made and were sold at Nintendo World Store in New York in 2014. Not even everyone who waited in line was able to get one. I like and own rare Zelda collectibles, but this is now the rarest one and I’m glad she’s mine. Who has read the Legend of Zelda Manga? I love these books. I really hope the do a cool collectors set for the Twilight Princess manga, I don’t like having all the individual softcover books. This set is amazing. If you change the battery in the chest, it makes the typical Zelda chest opening noise. I recently upgraded my Link’s Awakening DX “NFR” Not For Resale cartridge. My last one wasn’t bad at all, but I knew the moment I saw this one that it was the upgrade I wanted. Usually I like when the back stickers don’t have any writing on them yet. However, one of the exceptions to that is if it’s from EB Games, my personal favorite. I have so many memories of EB Games in the 90’s, so this cart serves as yet another reminder of the nostalgia I had from there. Other than the Game & Watch and the Mini Classics… did you know that Nintendo also made Zelda Game Watches through Nelsonic?! I can’t believe I’ve never posted these. They made them in four colors, with each color tougher and tougher to find (black —> red —> pink —> white). None of one have working batteries in them because they die fairly quickly, but they do all work. With a fresh battery, you can tell time and play a fun little Zelda game right on your wrist. I recently acquired a gorgeous upgrade to my CIB Majora’s Mask Collector’s Edition. I’d had my old one for years and was content with it for the most part. But this one popped up from a friend and I knew it was the upgrade I needed. Fun fact: did you know the original first prints of these contained a manual that states that Majora’s Mask is a four-player game? They had already printed all the manuals so instead of reprinting them all, Nintendo printed out correction cards stating it’s a one player game and slipped them into the boxes. This error was later corrected on the USA-1 releases, which these manuals came with the non-holo version, as well as possibly some of the later released Collector’s Editions. I finally got my TOTK GameStop cloth banner hung up on my wall. I know people may hate me for this, but I found it much easier to add grommet holes to hang it. I knew of another solution but it would’ve cost me about $100 for a specific frame and I’m on a “saving money” kick for awhile. I plan on keeping this long term anyway, so I don’t care. The Legend of Zelda (1987) Classic Series - sealed 9.6 A+. And just like that, the full sealed US released Zelda set has been completed. It’s been a journey, but I’m very happy to complete it. I still have some coming back from getting graded, but I can finally say I owned every Zelda game sealed at least. I still have 3-4 I’d like to upgrade over time that aren’t first prints, but most of them all. I knew when I set out on this journey that I would most likely have to at least start with a Classic version of LOZ for NES, but I definitely didn’t think I’d snag a 9.6 A+. I know some people won’t like this sticker, and to be fair, I didn’t either upon first look. Stickers only appeal to me if they have some sort of nostalgic or “wow” factor. But that’s just it. This one does have a “wow” factor I fell in love with. That’s an official Nintendo purchase sticker that happens to be dated 3 days before this variant was released. Call it a preorder, if you will. I thought that was cool enough to be on my shelf. I’m going to be crossing this to CGC to match my AOL that I have, but I’ll leave the sticker as is. What do you think? Do you love it or hate it? I finally pulled the trigger on A Link To The Past sealed and graded. Some day, I’d love to upgrade to a first print, but I’m happy with this for now. I think I’m going to try crossing this to CGC, for multiple reasons. The sideways case drives me crazy and I also think they’ll grade this at least a 9.0 or better. The box is very nice. On TOTK release day, I was the first in line at my Target about an hour before they opened. As I walked with haste towards the electronic department, I was greeted by a Zelda standee that made my jaw drop. I knew from the moment I saw it that I would someday acquire it for my room. I don’t have a large game room, so I stay away from most Zelda standees, but this aisle topper was perfect and still is the best TOTK standee I’ve seen personally. I begged and begged both of my Target’s, but they gave me some speech about how it’s a liability to give them out (which just means an employee had already claimed it, I’m certain). Finally in a trade with a friend, I got one. I plan on getting a new cabinet in my game room and this will go on top. I love that it’s pretty thin so it can go in so many places. Funny that a week later I ended up with a second one after that, so I used it as trade bait to get the other item I knew I needed (it’s on the way, post coming soon). So when these came out, I was “cheap” and got the Collector’s Edition instead of the Exclusive Edition (there’s four versions). I enjoyed it for a limited time before my newborn made eye contact with it for the first time. Since that moment on, it’s basically been his, as he’s always been obsessed with it. It migrated to his room when we moved into the new house and has been there since. This time around, I won this Exclusive version in a raffle and it’s never been opened. So I’ve mentioned it before, but one of my absolute favorite parts of my collection is the Ocarina of Time Collector’s Edition preorder set from EB Games. Back in 1998 if you preordered there, you picked it up and left with a bag full of goodies as well. I have another post detailing the whole set, but I recently came across something I had never seen yet. Stapled to the purchase receipt is the pick-up voucher from preordering. My guess is that most people actually handed these in and didn’t get them back. Yet, this person got lucky and got to keep it, stapled to their receipt. I knew I had to have this the moment I saw it. I have the full set, plus extra pieces that very few others have, so this fits right in. I didn’t think this set could get more complete, but it just did! I’m so stoked. I was on eBay three months ago and came across a new listing of a sealed ALTTP GBA first print. The condition seemed good enough to take a chance on to upgrade my current graded copy, so I pulled the trigger. I sent it in expecting a 9.2 A+. I just realized that during all the TOTK noise that I got these in and never officially shared them other than the unboxing video where I looked like an idiot who couldn’t open a box. I’ve held onto these for years, waiting to send them to VGA. Ended up going to CGC and I’m VERY happy with the grades. Both first prints (including the Link’s Awakening error print).
