Purification area before entering the Meiji Shrine, a Shinto shrine. Visitors to the shrine can perform the ritual by taking a water ladle and rinsing their left hand, then right hand, then mouth, and lastly the ladle itself. They can also make offerings at the main hall, buying charms and amulets or writing out one's wish on a small wooden plate called an ema.
