We were delighted to attend the concept launch of #SouthAsianHeritageMonth in Parliament last night, calling for the inclusion of South Asian history and culture in our curriculum and civic life.

The idea is to have a dedicated month celebrating and sharing South Asian culture and history, embedding it into British society. When we think of ‘Empire’, South Asians are not separate from this, but a huge part of it.

From Indians in Harrow & Wembley, to Bangladeshis in Tower Hamlets and Pakistanis in Birmingham, south Asians form the fabric of British society. Our built environment and our communities are hugely influenced by South Asian culture.

If approved, the first South Asian Heritage Month will run from 18 July - 17 August 2020 and thereafter become a celebration every year.

We hope this materialises and look forward to getting involved.
