There's a sort of shabby Adam building in Portland Place, which finally appears to be getting some architectural tlc. Walked past and managed to glimpse one of the decorative plaques inside. The history - especially the inception - of Portland Place is long and complex. The Adams were speculative builders and designers, and had the money to create Portland Place and some surrounding streets, in the Regency era. This was part of the grand John Nash scheme for an elegant area from Regent Street to thr psrk. Anyway, this is one of the houses. The plaques and othercdecorative touches are distinctive to them. The Lofthuus Rebellion, part 2 After the conclusion of the 1787 commission, where the peasants actually were granted some rights and improvements, the rebellious tendencies declined a bit. But not for Christian Lofthuus. On March 15, he was overpowered and arrested, and taken to Akershus fortress. When the news got out, the peasants were greatly upset and gathered an army of several hundred men. One of the bailiffs who captured Christian was himself captured by the angry peasants, who intended to use him in a prisoner exchange for Christian Lofthuus. But at this point, the government responded as it often does and sent soldiers to put down the rebellion. Confronted with superior force, the peasants retreated. Charges were brought in August 1789 against Christian who was accused of, among other things, violating the ban on meetings. In March 1792 he was sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labour. Christian died of a stroke on June 13, 1797. After his death, he gained the status of a martyr and symbol of the peasants' struggle - which in the coming centuries would grow into a wider class struggle. But that's another story. Due to the Turkish invasion, in 1545 the statue was burried in the church in Marija Bistrica. Discovered in 1588, then hidden again and walled up. Found for the 2nd time on July 15th 1684. ✦The following day, the noblewoman Magdalena Paulec brought her daughter Katarina, who could not walk, to the church in Bistrica. After being carried around the altar 3 times, she miraculously recovered. On the same day, the Virgin Mary appeared to captive Christians in Tirkish Kaniža telling them that they will be freed if they vow to vorship her statue in Bistrica. Soon area was freed from the Turks. The annals of history suggest his lineage connects him to Queen Tetisheri and Sanakhtenre Ahmose, with Thebes serving as his seat of power amidst the Hyksos’ dominion over Avaris. Upon ascending to the throne, Seqenenre Tao navigated a delicate truce with the Hyksos, diligently laboring to restore Thebes to its former glory. However, Seqenenre’s narrative takes a tragic turn with his violent end during a clash with the Hyksos forces. The brutality of his passing is etched in historical accounts—he was stabbed behind the ear, his face marred by a mace, and struck above the right eye by a battle axe. Some scholars posit that these wounds had begun healing before his eventual death. The question is: Did he recklessly return to battle, or did an assassin’s hand cut short his recuperation? Interestingly, his death did not end the conflict. Instead, his wife-sister Ahhotep I seized the reins of leadership, rallying troops for a resolute northern campaign against the Hyksos. Her efforts paved the way for their son, Kamose, to step into his rightful role as a warrior. This artifact offers us a window into the life of Merer, an individual tasked with overseeing a workforce of 200 laborers journeying across Egypt. Their mission: to transport the stones destined for the construction of the pyramids. Within the logbook’s pages lies the confirmation that the premium-quality limestone used for the pyramid’s outer casing was ferried across the Nile via boats, hailing from a quarry located in Tura. Merer’s accounts also shed light on his interactions with “the noble Ankh-haf,” a figure who has now been definitively identified as Pharaoh Khufu’s half-brother. 🇿🇦 The Bo-Kaap is an area of Cape Town, South Africa formerly known as the Malay Quarter starting in the 1760's. It is a former racially segregated area and is a historical centre of Cape Malay culture in Cape Town. Because the aboriginal tribes in the Cape Colony area resisted the Dutch, slaves were initially imported from Malaysia, Indonesia and different parts of Africa, hence the name “Malay”. Bo-Kaap is known for its brightly coloured homes attributed to an expression of freedom by the new homeowners once slavery ended. 56.9% of its population identify as Muslim. The area contains the largest concentration of pre-1850 architecture in South Africa, and is the oldest surviving residential neighborhood in Cape Town. There have been extensive fossil remains from a series of caves in Gauteng Province. The area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been branded "the Cradle of Humankind". The bootstrap narrative is pervasive within personal finance. And I get it. It’s much easier to put the onus on the individual instead of examining structures, systems and policy. ▫️ In the case of the United States, there’s no denying the legacy of systemically marginalizing certain groups, making it difficult, or even illegal, for many to access opportunities and build wealth. Some of which are outlined in this post, but that’s just a few and not even all the ones in my article. And this exclusively focused on Black Americans. There have been plenty of other groups also legally excluded. ▫️ We should all understand the context of history when we examine the racial wealth gap and partake in the bootstraps narrative. Now, this isn’t to dismiss the necessity of hard work. Hauteur drone: 40m Histoire de l'église Saint Michel: L'église Saint Michel daterait du XVI siècle reconstruite par Louis de Villeneuve seigneur de Séranon sur les soubassements du ancienne église qui serait plus ancienne est qui daterait du XII- XIII siècle. Aujourd'hui en ruine, elle devait être somptueuse, son ampleur témoigne du passé important de Séranon. Cette église de style gothique à abside polygonale c'est-à-dire de forme arrondie, couvert de croisées d'ogives soit de sa voûte montre l'importance de la structure du bâtiment à l'époque. L'église demeura longtemps la seule église paroissiale de Séranon avant d'être doucement remplacé par la chapelle Gratemoine ( voir précédente vidéo). En 1754, l'église commence à tomber en ruine et une partie de la population du vieux village décide de descendre dans la vallée, plus accueillante et plus fertile pour l'agriculture. Aujourd'hui les restes de sa structure nous rappelle l'emplacement de son clocher mais aussi des fragments de ses croisées d'ogives ou encore de certaines de ses fenêtres sur un pan de mur autrefois recouvertes de magnifique vitraux. Histoire du Vieux Séranon: Le vieux village de Séranon est un village aujourd'hui abandonné dominant le nouveau village de Séranon situé en contrebas dans la vallée. Autrefois fortifié, il possédait un château du XII et XIII siècle ainsi qu'une église Saint Michel voir plus haut et voir vidéo. Le village est abandonné au cours du XVIII siècle où une partie de la population migrent dans la plaine en quête d'une terre plus fertile pour l'agriculture et plus accueillante. Ewloe Castle, Flintshire The history of Ewloe is a little uncertain. The foundation of the castle and its characteristically Welsh D-shaped tower is attributed to Llywelyn ap Iorwerth (Llywelyn the Great) sometime after 1210, with the curtain walls and circular western tower being added around 60 years later by Llywelyn ap Gruffydd (Llywelyn the Last). The earliest reference source for the castle at Ewloe dates to 1311. This document summarises the history of the manor at Ewloe from the middle of the 12th century. It states that by 1257 Llywelyn ap Gruffydd had regained Ewloe from the English and built a castle in the wood. It also notes that in 1311 it was in great part still standing. The castle is described as ruinous by the late medieval period. The stone having been heavily robbed over the years for rebuilding elsewhere. Free to visit and managed by Cadw (check ahead for opening times). Closest parking is in a nearby layby. Hemen bir solukta değil de, yavaş yavaş inceleyerek okunacak bir eser. Bende başladım kitabıma.Okuyup bitirdikten sizinle yorumda da buluşacağım.Fakat isim ve içeriğinden de anlaşılacağı üzere siz bu kitabı gecikmeden alın, okumaya başlayın.Referansı çok güçlü çünkü. Atatürk’ün arkeolojiye olan ilgisini ve çalışmalarını okumak çok güzel bir deneyim olacaktır. Ben bu kitap için çok heyecanlıyım. Sizde bana katılın 😉 #kitaparkası Osmanlı İmparatorluğu topraklarında, dünyada eşi benzeri görülmemiş, çok büyük bir tarihi miras yatıyordu. Bilhassa arkeolojik kalıntı açısından dünyanın en zengin topraklarına sahiptik. En eski dört nehir uygarlığından Mezopotamya ve Mısır, Helen uygarlığının merkezleri Suriye, Küçük Asya ve tek başına bir arkeolojik cennet sayılabilecek Filistin, Osmanlı egemenliğindeydi. Bunun herkes farkındaydı; İngiliz arkeologlar, Alman arkeologlar, Amerikalı arkeologlar... Peki Osmanlı hükümeti? Onlar farkında mıydı? Arkeolog Dr. Ulaş Töre Sivrioğlu, Atatürk ve Arkeoloji adlı eserinde bizi önce Osmanlı topraklarında tarihi bir gezintiye çıkarıyor, sonra elimiz kolumuz bağlı bir şekilde, kültürel mirasımızın önemli bir kısmının dünyanın seçkin müzelerine olan yolculuklarını izliyoruz.
