Before we went to Copenhagen I had read mixed reviews about the area called Christiania. It’s an old military base which locals claimed by squatting there in the 70s and formed a ‘freetown’ and their own set of rules. Some blogs praised the people and raved about the hippy vibes of the area. Others advised visiting with caution and painted it in a more dangerous light. I was intrigued and dragged the girls all the way to see it during our long weekend there... to be quite disappointed. I found it to be a completely different vibe to the Copenhagen that I enjoyed... and not a particularly comfortable one. This picture is perhaps the one pretty building, at the entrance of Christiania... so if you’re tempted to visit don’t be fooled into thinking that there is beautiful street art everywhere (as I was). It literally looks like a military base still, and doesn’t feel (in my opinion) like a chilled out, vibey, hippy village, but more like the area of town you walk through clutching your handbag and keeping your eyes to the floor 🙊 #notrecommended .
