Many families retreat to Hawaii for a relaxing getaway that involves lazy beach days filled with sunshine and easy vibes. They also knew that Hawaii was one of the top tourist destinations when not visiting the Disney Parks. Additionally, Japanese tourists targetted Hawaii as a top U.S. destination without having to go all the way to the continental U.S. Disney saw this opportunity to turn a man-made lagoon in the Ko'Olina Resort into a major tourist destination on the island of O'ahu, while still paying respect to the Hawaiian culture and people.

The Aulani a Disney Resort and Spa is about 35 minutes west of Honolulu. When the Aulani was under construction Disney Imagineers were very careful to pay attention to the Hawaiian culture and sought to depict it in a very respectful manner. At this resort, you won't find random characters running around, and you'll find an amazing immersion in the Hawaiin culture with the Hawaiian language all over the resort as well as those mischievous Menehune hiding around the resort. It is a gorgeous resort with unobstructed views of the Leeward side of O'ahu which means out of this world amazing sunsets every evening.
