The two cubs of the famous Maya from Tadoba, March 2019. These two cubs are just over a year.
Maya lay barely 15m from the jeep but was barely visible as she had decided to rest under thick undergrowth. However she made her precede felt through her ferocious growls.
As we sat there patiently hoping that Maya would come out into the open, the other side of the waterhole was having a mad commotion as all the herbivores were scurrying around in fear and the langurs were screaming their alarm call.
The future of these two cubs still remain uncertain despite their age. This is solely due to the precense of a new young male - Chota Mutkasur.
He is the Son of the Father of these two cubs - the legendary Mutkasur. However despite becoming independent, the Father-Son duo can be seen together in tranquility.
Maya's only hope for her two cubs remains in the cordial relation between the two males, which may not last much longer when territorial fights go ablaze.
Meanwhile, Tadoba's tiger population seems to be having an extremely bright future. Numerous females, such as Sonam, Lara, Maya amongst others, have successfully raised their current litters to near adulthood. This augurs well as even Pench has a fairly young population of tigers, which makes the wildlife corridor between the two very vital.
