Movie: Ad Astra (2019)
I honestly didn’t really have any expectations walking into Ad Astra. I had only seen the first trailer that came out a few months ago, and that’s about all the information I was given before walking into the theatre. First off, let me just say that this is the most beautiful looking movie of the year. The cinematography and visual effects are just jaw dropping, blending together seamlessly to tell a very simple story. We follow Brad Pitt’s character, Roy McBride, who’s father has been missing in space for years while trying to find extraterrestrial life on an galactic expedition called the LIMA Project. When dangerous electrical storms called surges that threaten all human life begin to occur all across the solar system, Roy is sent out to find his father, as the surges are believed to be caused by the LIMA Project. The plot of Ad Astra sounds straightforward enough, but there’s actually a lot to unpack, mainly with the character of Roy. He’s very complex and Pitt gives a great subtle, nuanced performance while bringing McBride to life. Not only is there much to discuss about Pitt’s character, but there’s also questions that are presented to the audience that aren’t answered so that the viewer can come to their own conclusions, which is what is so great about this film; everyone will have a different interpretation of it. Overall, Ad Astra is a near perfect movie, with only just a few minor pacing issues in the first act. Please, go see this film in theatres while you have the chance.
Grade: A
#adastra #adastramovie #moviereview #bradpitt #super8reviews
