My Ma did these delicious Tamarind Rice (Puli Sadam) and Sweet Ponggal Rice. Both of these rice originated from South Indian subcontinent. "Ponggal" means to boil over or spill over. If you watch how it's cooked (you can google), we do cook the rice until it boils over. 😉 .

Ponggal is a thanksgiving festival for the year's harvest and the main dish is the sweet rice. I'm not a fan of the sweet rice, I love the sour and spiciness of tamarind rice, thus Ma makes have both rice during Ponggal 😋😋😋
