Gary is one of the wood carvers who lives in the village of Cheke. He laughs and smiles more than probably any person I've ever met, and his carvings are absolutely incredible and so life-like (if you are interested, he has a friend with a gallery in Kauai, Hawaii, who sometimes shows his work!). We were crossing the stream that runs through the middle of the village and he said, "Look down! Big eel!" and when we didn't see it, he hopped down and showed us. Big indeed! The freshwater eels are something like village pets as far as we could tell.
