🦢 September motorbike journey, part 8. Wells, Bishop’s Palace: gardens and swans 🦢

Can’t believe it’s the last day of September! These pics were made on its fist day, and I really miss both the gorgeous sunny weather and the tranquil atmosphere of these magnificent gardens ❤️ Besides being 14 acres of plant bounty, they are also famous for their swans, who actually became the city’s symbol. There’s always a pair of mute swans, a male and a female, residing here with their cygnets, who are said to have been trained to ring bells by pulling strings, to beg for food (it’s a pity I didn’t see that myself - all the birds were extremely busy with cleaning their feathers when we came). The first swans were trained by one of the daughters of Bishop Hervey in the 1870s (Anglican priests can marry and have family).
