This exhibition explores diverse lineages in contemporary art through the practices of Simrin Mehra Agarwal and Mahwish Chishty. These artists emerge from entrenched traditions in painting, drawing and installation and yet their works are highly resonant in our current era. National historical legacies, localized cultural beliefs, technologies of past and present and personal experience provide layered and far-reaching interests. Acutely, the artists’ methods of highly crafted execution shapes a felt intimacy with form that is rare amidst the spectacles of much contemporary art.
