In this 75th anniversary year of the NHS, I reflect on the wonderful career I had working in healthcare. I recently came across this booklet while doing some spring cleaning for Mum. She started training as a nurse when the NHS was only 6 years old!
Reading the things she had to master haven’t changed much it’s all the things that were then and remain true today about being a good nurse, caring for us when we are sick, feeling frightened and vulnerable, away from home and our normal environment, maybe in pain or discomfort. My mother continues to be a nurse even at 87! She always has her germolene, antihistamine the odd painkiller and an Elastoplast at the ready! I am the same always have my little first aid kit with me. It has and always will be the biggest honour and privilege to care for patients 💕I have loved every single day of my long nursing career.
