'The All Seeing’ (acrylic media on board) by Paul Evans. This captivating painting is currently on display in 'Sightseeing Tour' in our Projects Gallery within Bloc Studios. This is the second iteration of this project, the first being part of @platformhms plot in Platform Projects in Technopolis in Athens. The exhibition features postcard sized works on the theme of sightseeing, encompassing ideas of escape, travel, journeys, places and views outside and inside us. Are we spectators or voyeurs of our lives or others?

Paul says, "This painting is based on the markings that appear in the tail feathers of the Indian peacock. According to Greek myth these ‘eyes’ are those of the hundred-eyed Argus Panoptes, Hera’s watchman, preserved forever to commemorate his faithfulness. In nature these vibrant, iridescent colours are not primarily pigments, but structural colouration caused by crystalline structures which can remain preserved for millennia, as long as the crystals remain intact.
I was born in the West Midlands in 1962 and am based at YAS. I am a multi-portfolio practitioner. My artistic output encompasses various creative strategies to explore our physical and emotional relationship with heritage and nature. Outstanding achievements include: winner of the Eyestorm Gallery Award for Painting (2007); selection for Leverhulme Trust Residency, Cardiff University (2011); winner of the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement ‘Engage’ Prize (2014). My work has featured in a number of publications including ‘Nature Morte: Contemporary Artists Reinvigorate the Still-Life Tradition’ by Michael Petry, published by Thames and Hudson (2013)."
Follow Paul @paul.k.evans.7
#prosaic97
#platformhms
#platformproject #postcardart #postcardsizepainting #acrylicmedia #iridescence #iridescent #microexhibition #sheffieldartist #sheffieldexhibition #sheffieldgallery #microshow #contemporaryart #contemporarypainting #newpaintingoninstagram #peacockfeathers #indianpeacock #goldleaf #inspiredbynature #birdmarkings #supportartists #supportingartists #theallseeingeye #theallseeing
