The origins of this Cervara Di Roma hilltop village date back to the Benedictine monks in the 8th Century. Inhabited by less than 500 residents, it is perched high on the slopes of the Simbruini Mountains. The name originated from the fact the area was once densely populated by deer. It has always been a mecca for artists. During medieval times the village developed as a fortified centre and was part of the Papal States. This medieval character is evident in its narrow streets, stone houses and ancient walls.
