It's here! Fenella Humphreys' new album "Prism" is out today on Rubicon Classics, available on streaming, as a physical copy, and anywhere good music is sold...

Back in 2019, while I was living in Shenzhen, China, I wrote a little piece called "Prism" for Fenella which "refracts" the notes of the famous 24th Paganini Caprice. 5 years later, thanks to the dedication, ingenuity, and hard work of Fenella, this piece is now the title track of her latest album. It's the little piece that could! The title ended up being the perfect metaphor for how the violin "refracts" its sound into the different musical worlds of the composers featured.

Please enjoy this exciting and varied album - by turns delicate, searing, intimate, and haunting, it features many excellent pieces Fenella was gifted or learned during lockdown - by Sarah Lianne Lewis, Cameron Biles-Liddell, Ailie Robertson, Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Sarah Francis Jenkins, a witty and quirky Bethan Morgan-Williams piece, and works by the American composers, Caroline Shaw, a haunting and meditative piece by Jessie Montgomery, and a *thrilling* and fiery piece by the great George Walker. It also features several of Fenella's own arrangements - the famous D Minor Toccata of Bach and Träumerei of Schumann. Fenella's incredible range as a player is on full display here - the imagination, precision, and power she can summon through her instrument proves she's one of the top musicians working today - it's such an honor to be able to work with someone of that caliber, as I'm sure everyone featured will agree!!

#newmusic #composer #contemporarymusic #modernmusic
