Piękna relacja zdjęciowa i podziękowania dla dyrygentów! Próby do koncertu odbywają się cały czas zarówno w chórze jak i w orkiestrze. Zostałam posiadaczką pięknej sesji zdjęciowej którą w zeszły poniedziałek wykonał dla nas @the.moonrider! Co ciekawe, w sumie w przygotowanie Mszy zaangażowało się aż pięciu dyrygentów. Do 22 kwietnia 2024r. przygotowaniem orkiestry zajmowali się asystenci dra Szymona Morusa. Część I i IV (Kyrie i Agnus Dei) poprowadziła Krystsina Pazniak. Część II i III (Gloria i Sanctus.Benedictus) poprowadził Wojciech Kubik oraz Jakub Pawlak. Z tego miejsca chciałabym serdecznie podziękować wszystkim dyrygentom. To było wyzwanie zarówno dla orkiestry, która musiała na bieżąco dostosowywać się do nowych sposobów dyrygowania i prowadzenia próby, jak i dla mnie... nauka tego, jak przekazać najważniejsze aspekty, charakter i nastrój, aby wszystko brzmiało zgodnie z moją wizją. Back in 2019, while I was living in Shenzhen, China, I wrote a little piece called "Prism" for Fenella which "refracts" the notes of the famous 24th Paganini Caprice. 5 years later, thanks to the dedication, ingenuity, and hard work of Fenella, this piece is now the title track of her latest album. It's the little piece that could! The title ended up being the perfect metaphor for how the violin "refracts" its sound into the different musical worlds of the composers featured. What an enjoyable blast from the past I had earlier this week heading back to my alma mater to celebrate my former teacher, Jim Culley’s, retirement, to see what could be the last Percussion Group Cincinnati performance, and to catch up with so many I haven’t seen in YEARS! Jim has been an incredible mentor and friend for years to so many of us and his career is inspirational. PGC has left such an immeasurable impact in the world of percussion. I am so lucky to have studied with them because as little baby undergrad Alexandros didn’t realize, it’s not normal to have such an esteemed trio of percussion professors all at one institution. Last week, I performed "P.I.M.P." by 50 Cent with a violin/cello duo for a wedding (major props to Gail Gerding Mellert for embracing her inner rapper and killing the violin part!). In the past fortnight, I've performed everything from Queen to Lil Wayne including Beethoven, Copeland, Strauss, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Bach, and more. As a busy musician, I often find myself tunnel-visioned and focused only on the music that I need to perform next. Once I have a moment to come up for air and look back on recent accomplishments, it hits me how diverse my music world has become! I remember my 20th Century Music college professor looking at the string players in his class and telling us that we were already obsolete and should find another career. This was terrible advice! Instead, he should have encouraged us to embrace our classical training and then use it as a springboard to learn other genres of music and enjoy a long and productive career as a busy working musician. IMHO 😉

“13 Waitresses”, my concerto for orchestra (37 parts for 35 players) made the semi-finals as a music selection at the Pebbles Underground Festival. It’s based in lovely Toronto, Canada but is mostly an online festival. As a semi-finalist it doesn’t get a live performance but I’m glad at least the score made the cut, and a midi realization of the music was at least heard by more people- especially more Canadian people! It’s the first piece I’ve written for full orchestra and this is it’s second festival, one win in Khazakstan and one semi-win in Canada.
