Paradise Square, Sheffield, England.
Paradise Square is an 18th Century Georgian square in the centre of Sheffield. Whilst it is now little more than a car park for businesses on the square, it has a lively history as a gathering place. John Wesley preached in the square on 15th July 1779, to which a commemorative plaque was unveiled in 1951 by J Arthur Rank. The square was also used as a place of protest and politics by crowds of up to 20,00 Chartists in the 19th century, and was then subject to bomb damage in WW2.
When funding becomes available, the square will be converted to an urban park as part of the Grey to Green Scheme set up by Sheffield City Council.
