Sorting through old paperwork today I found this exquisite birthday card written by my great great grandfather to my grandmother for her 21st birthday. He was born in the 1870s and lived in the East end of London, dirt poor and illiterate. Not only did he meticulously copy what someone else had written he was so poor he couldn't afford to buy another card when he had made a mistake. This would have been an absolute extravance to buy in the first place. He lived through the start of the suffragette movement, WW1 and the great depression. I'm thrilled to have this card ♥️
